About

Death Cab for Cutie was formed in Bellingham, WA in 1997 and almost immediately entered the ranks of the era's definitive bands, fueled in large part by the remarkable power of co-founder, lead vocalist, songwriter, and guitarist Benjamin Gibbard's complex, often bittersweet songcraft. The band made their worldwide popular breakthrough with 2003's RIAA Platinum certified Transatlanticism, later named by NPR as one of "The Decade's 50 Most Important Recordings." Plans, their 2005 Atlantic Records debut, saw Death Cab for Cutie ascending to even greater heights, earning RIAA platinum certification and a GRAMMY® Award nomination for "Best Alternative Album" while spawning the chart-topping singles, "Soul Meets Body," "Crooked Teeth," and "I Will Follow You into the Dark," the latter of which was honored with a GRAMMY® nod for "Best Pop Performance By Duo Or Group With Vocals."

  • Death Cab for Cutie - the Plans Tour

by EJ on 8/5/25Climate Pledge Arena - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

Prologue - My wife was somehow not aware of Death Cab for Cutie. I told her we were going to see them, and she listened to their top songs on iTunes and stated "I like them, this sounds like it'll be a nice mellow show." Death Cab for Cutie hit the stage, and the frontman, Ben Gibbard, was full of energy and they took those mellow album tunes on Plans to a powerful level. This was not a mellow show, and that's not a criticism. It was great. The sound was big, full and rocking, and yet distinctly DCFC at the same time. They played the Plans album from start to finish and then added about 12 more tunes. They played everyone's favorites. The energy, the sound quality, the set list and stage presentation were all fantastic. I'd fully recommend this show.

  • Plans 20th

by death cab for florley on 8/5/25Climate Pledge Arena - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

It's three days later and I am still in a daze. I've seen Death Cab 8 times and I cannot believe I was on the barricade. I cannot believe I heard Plans IN FULL! Ben Gibbard was right in front of my face closing with Transatlanticism, my all time favorite song, and I almost passed out. I have seen dcfc play Red Rocks and I think barricade at Climate Pledge for Plans is my all-time time favorite Death Cab moment. There was a kind security guard who saw me SOBBING during What Sarah Said and gave me a guitar pick and made me cry harder. Plans is the album that got me into Death Cab. My brother showed me Soul Meets Body in 2006 when I was 13 and it changed my life. This review is so ramble and incoherent, but there are not words to describe what seeing this show was like. I'm still in a hazy, dumbfounded, awestruck stupor. It was unbelievable. Death Cab forever.

  • FANTASTIC SHOW, venue not great

    by C_L on 8/5/25Climate Pledge Arena - SeattleRating: 4 out of 5

DCFC were fantastic, great to see the “Plans” tour live! However, Climate Pledge is not my fave venue, there are some significant areas for improvement. We got in the GA line 2-3 hours before doors, were in the first 50 people in line. However, once inside, we were funneled into a line where one person was checking bags for two metal detectors, so going significantly slower than the other lines. Then at the second ticket scan, the scanner would not recognize my ticket. End result - 3 hours waiting outside, to get into the GA area after ~200 people. Two beers + tax/tip were $46–how is that reasonable? Floor staff did not allow water bottles brought in, even though all of the Climate Pledge info said that only glass bottles were not allowed. Not sure if the folks near me who had a Stanley confiscated got it back, but one way to avoid this would be to put the info on the website or in the ticket emails that go out from Ticketmaster in advance.

  • Worst concert experience ever!

by JT on 8/4/25Climate Pledge Arena - SeattleRating: 1 out of 5

My wife and I have been to several concerts at Climate Pledge Arena and this was the first one we walked away disappointed. First off, we paid extra to sit in the Symetra Club which has been great in the past. Our seats were on the isle which led to our view being blocked anytime someone walked by. Additionally, our seats were under the overhang which created an echo affect which distorted the sound from the band. Lastly, the people in front of us insisted that they have their arms around one another while sitting. This prevented us from using the cup holders for our drinks. Despite numerous requests they ignored us. I would give this experience a 0 out of 5 stars.

  • A fantastic performance

    by LarsU6 on 8/4/25Climate Pledge Arena - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

Death Cab is a truly great band of musicians. Ben Gibbards lyrics and emotional singing reach every corner of the arena. I’ve been attending concerts since the 80’s and these 2 nights were phenomenal. It was my first time seeing them and they did not disappoint. It was also the first time for my date, my 16 year old daughter who is now completely drowning herself in all things “Cutie”. Thank you for allowing me to share “my music” with my family and pass on the torch!

  • Great show/disability seating!

by Momma B on 8/3/25Climate Pledge Arena - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

The show was fantastic! Death Cab for Cutie was incredible and Nation of Language has a new fan. I was really impressed with our club level disability seating. Bathrooms and food were very accessible. I would definitely see another show here!

  • More Please!

by Jules on 7/27/25Grand Sierra Resort and Casino - RenoRating: 5 out of 5

Been following DCFC since 2002 in Seattle. This is the 3rd show that I have seen the band at the Grand Sierra Resort. Ben and the band delivered 1000%. The sound quality was spot on. All made for a magical evening!

  • Save Your Money, Watch YouTube Videos Instead

by Reno Girl on 7/27/25Grand Sierra Resort and Casino - RenoRating: 1 out of 5

The show started with the lead singer stating Reno has been the site of one of Death Cab’s best performances, and one of their worst. Suffice to say they can chalk up 2 worst performances in Reno. I’ve enjoyed the band over the years, especially for their lyrics and Ben Gibbard’s voice. Unfortunately this show seemed to be a competition of who could play loudest leaving no room to hear the vocals. I don’t know if the sound engineer had a problem, but it was just awful. If felt like a full on noise assault. And before you cast it off as “if it’s too loud, you’re too old,” I’ve seen other shows in this venue, including The Killers - who were a whole lot louder, but I could hear every word of the songs and it was a fantastic experience. And please, flashing bright lights at eye level to the audience does not constitute a “light show.”My daughter saw Death Cab 2 years ago in England and said it was a great show (we have very similar taste so I trust her opinion). So again, maybe a bad sound engineer, or maybe these guys just need to take time off and regroup. They seem tired and not really into it. In my life I’ve never left a concert early, but I did on this one. What a waste of money. Save yours, and in the future I’ll just look up YouTube videos.

  • Amazing show!

    by Mel on 7/27/25Channel 24 - SacramentoRating: 5 out of 5

I am so happy I finally got to see Death Cab for Cutie in Sacramento! They dont tour around this area much and it was all perfect!

  • Terrible Sound, Terrible Lighting

by DJ on 7/26/25Rating: 1 out of 5

I really like Death Cab's music but the recent show at the Grand Sierra was one of the first times I left a concert early. I've been to the venue before and the sound can be good. And it was good, for one song, when Ben played solo acoustic guitar and sang. The rest of the time the band was just way too loud that they drowned out the lyrics and made the lyrics and singing (which is part of what makes Death Cab great) unintelligible. Next, the band was backlit for the whole show. You really couldn't see anyone, beyond just silhouettes, and we weren't sitting very far back. While most bands have video that show close ups of the action there was none of that. Just some random stuff projected behind the band. And then there were the annoying bright lights, that they continued to flash at the audience, but not once did they spotlight the band on the stage. I think of Death Cab as an alternative band with great songs and lyrics. But they were trying to come off like some heavy metal rockers which is kind of weird since the opening act was just a woman playing the harp. Looking at the set list I guess I missed some songs I really liked in the encore. But I heard them in the car on the way home, and I know they sounded better than the live performance.

  • Excellent

    by Diana on 7/26/25Channel 24 - SacramentoRating: 5 out of 5

Death Cab is perfection. It’s been years since I saw them live and every note, every song was outstanding . We all sang and danced . It was wonderful

  • 20th anniversary of Trasatlanticism

by Steve on 5/15/24Rating: 5 out of 5

Not much more to say than 20th anniversary of Trasatlanticism performed in its entirety, true to the recording. Music is as good today as it was 20 years ago, even better performed live!

  • Amazing

by LarryK on 10/20/23Climate Pledge Arena - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

Incredible experience. Was amazing to be there for the 20th anniversary of their Transantlanticism album and also hear Postal Service play. I never thought I'd have the opportunity to see them live and now I can say I have. Seattle is amazing and the venue was easy to get to and well organized.

  • Fantastic show

by COw on 10/15/23Climate Pledge Arena - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

This was one of the best shows I’ve been to! I’ve seen Death Cab a couple times in 2004-2005 but never The Postal Service. It was so so great. Wish I could go again!

  • Delivers every-time.

    by D. C. on 10/15/23Rating: 5 out of 5

I have seen DCFC three times, and every single show has been amazing. Ben Gibbard is an incredible singer, songwriter and performer. Every member of the band has amazing energy and every show has been unique. Wether playing through the rain at a small venue or playing their seminal album front to back at the Greek theatre in Berkeley, Death Cab is always phenomenal.

  • Nosebleed seats, awesome experience

    by Bac4uw on 10/13/23Climate Pledge Arena - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

This was our 5th time seeing Death Cab, first time seeing Postal Service. Such a great show and experience and Climate Pledge is a great venue, despite us being in the last row in the upper most corner. Sound was still great, though not as loud as in the lower seats.

  • Great show!

by Bryomancer on 10/12/23Climate Pledge Arena - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

It was a great show, the band had a lot of energy and are great performers. The music had a great sound on the big auditorium. For playing two full albums of music, they didn't miss a beat! Too bad the prices that TicketMaster charges are borderline criminal, and I doubt I'll ever willingly pay as much for a concert again. Even if it was a great show, one of the best I've seen in years, it wasn't worth what they're forcing people to pay. I guess it's back to small venue shows for me, where their monopoly hasn't reached yet.

  • BEST EVER

by Stephanie F on 10/11/23Climate Pledge Arena - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

The DCFC + TPS 20th anniversary tour was phenomenal! From the security check to the guides to our seats - everyone was so kind and helpful! The seats were fantastic and comfy, the sound for the concert was impeccable, and I’m grateful it was an entirely indoor venue (even though the weather was perfect)! I wish all venues were this good!

  • One to remember

by Andy on 10/11/23Climate Pledge Arena - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

Very comforting and exciting. It was nice to see a band I have only known by listening to their music from my parents. Seeing the performances of "The New Year", "Tiny Vessels", "Transatlanticism", and "Passenger Seat"are some of the most memorable and most favorite moments of the show. Seeing the Postal Service in person was exciting (very interesting with the instrument dynamic). I would very much like to relive it again, if there ever was a way.
