About

Madeline Ashton is the most beautiful actress (just ask her) ever to grace the stage and screen. Helen Sharp is the long-suffering author (just ask her) who lives in her shadow. They have always been the best of frenemies...until Madeline steals Helen's fiance away. As Helen plots revenge and Madeline clings to her rapidly fading star, their world is suddenly turned upside down by Viola Van Horn, a mysterious woman with a secret that's to die for.

After one sip of Viola's magical potion, Madeline and Helen begin a new era of life (and death) with their youth and beauty restored...and a grudge to last eternity.

Starring Tony Award nominees Megan Hilty (Wicked, "Smash"), Jennifer Simard (Company, Disaster!), and Christopher Sieber (Spamalot, Company), with Grammy Award winner Michelle Williams (Destiny's Child, Chicago), Death Becomes Her, based on the classic 1992 film, is a drop-dead hilarious new musical comedy about friendship, love, and burying the hatchet...again, and again, and again.

Life's a bitch and then you die. Or not!

    Howling Funny Adaptation

by OutOfTowner on 5/10/24Cadillac Palace - Chicago

As a huge fan of the movie, I wasn’t so precious about it that I couldn’t entertain the thought of it becoming a musical. Thankfully, this team has created a riotously funny musical comedy that delivers (and then some) the goods. I liked it so much, in fact, that I went to see it again during my short stay in the city. The leads are terrific and the ensemble is gorgeous. As this is an out of town tryout, expect some material to be in flux and not everything to be razor sharp - but as someone who sees a ton of pre-Broadway shows (many in Chicago) this is by far one of the all-time strongest ones I’ve seen taking into account the quality and laughs. Don’t miss this one.

Great show but skip the suite services

by Jamester on 5/8/24Cadillac Palace - Chicago

Music was great. Can't wait for the cast recording. I liked the show a lot better than the movie. Very talented staff. Skip the suite services add on though. Waste of money. They had run out of vodka the night before and the stuff they had was swill quality. For a $40 add on, they should have at least the qualify of stuff they are charging for at the paid bars

    Amazing

by Mandy on 5/8/24Cadillac Palace - Chicago

This show was fantastic!! The music, comedy, set, costumes, and magic were amazing! I didn't want it to end. Sometimes with shows I find myself wondering when intermission is or if it's almost over....not Death Becomes Her! I didn't want it to end.

    A Can't Miss Performance

by TommyGunn on 5/8/24Cadillac Palace - Chicago

As a fan of the movie, the adaptation was perfection. From start to beginning it kept you laughing and excited to be there. All of the performances were spot on especially noted this was the first Saturday of its Chicago run. The buzz inside the theatre just added to the performance.

So Entertaining and Fun on Every Level - A Real Treat!

by Suzie on 5/8/24Cadillac Palace - Chicago

The show was so entertaining and fun - with such clever humor. The talent, costumes and dancing/choreography were exceptional and the show had a great pace. The time seemed to just fly by. This was a great opportunity to see a high caliber pre-Broadway show - how lucky are we Chicagoans!

Amazing show! The cast is a real luxury, wonderful voices, very good special effects, masterful performances and very, very funny... right to the top positions of my (long) list of musicals seen. Totally recommended

    Catty Gay Fun

by Carligula on 5/8/24Cadillac Palace - Chicago

Catty dialogue which will make this a success by the queer population alone. My review (without giving away plot or changes from film) Megan and Jennifer have great chemistry. The songs are very good but sound needs to be fixed because the duets were garbled. Too much time was given to Ernest (in my opinion) and one scene involving him needs to be fixed or cut. I didn't feel the actor had a strong enough presence. Michelle Williams is a great singer, but not an actress. It may be the material given to her. This is where I will leave that. I bought a mug and magnet so I enjoyed the show enough to get merch! I snapped, clapped, laughed and yaaaaassed a lot as did most of the crowd Costumes and ensemble had me opening Grindr after the show!

This was a funny and entertaining play. The acting and singing were great and the comedy was on point. It did the movie justice. I recommend.

You will leave the theater in the best mood!

by Dinewithwine on 5/8/24Cadillac Palace - Chicago

Run, don’t walk to go see “Death Becomes Her”! The show way overexceeded my expectations and I haven’t laughed that much in years seeing a live play or a musical! The sets and costumes were gorgeous, the voices (chorus included) were excellent, the dancers were sexy and entrancing and the comedic timing with the main actors was impeccable! There were so many highlights that I would like to put in this review, but I also don’t want to spoil the surprises for people seeing this show for the first time! All I can say is we left the theater in the best mood and we are now spreading the word that this is a MUST see musical before it goes to Broadway!

First half was sensational. Lost steam second half. I read where they are working on a new ending--needs it.

Life long theatre geek and admitted theatre snob

by Tobiebrave on 5/7/24Cadillac Palace - Chicago

The show overall was extremely fun, funny and just generally entertaining. The costumes, sets and lighting design were all stand outs in their own right. The opening number alone was worth the price of admission, with Megan Hilty's Liza impersonation being a must see. Dialogue was also great. At one point the actors had to hold for what seemed like forever while the audience howled with laughter. I did feel that Act I should have ended in a different place and that an ensemble number in Act II should be cut. It did not advance the plot and seemed like a set up for a single joke. Perhaps it was covering or costume change, but I didn't think so. Overall, I highly recommend.

    Loved it!

by Scott S on 5/6/24Cadillac Palace - Chicago

Hilariously funny! The cast was phenomenal, particularly Meghan Hilty. What a tour de force performance! A few things could be tightened up or possibly cut, but it’s nearly ready for Broadway. Go see it. You won’t be disappointed!

Great Talent; First Act Can Use Some Work

by Char on 5/6/24Cadillac Palace - Chicago

Wonderful show and the talent was fantastic. Loved seeing Megan Hilty again and in a comedic role this time. The first act drags a bit though, I think that there are some extraneous parts that can be cut. The second act definitely shines and was hilarious! Overall, a good show and I would definitely see it again!

    Impressive

by McGee on 5/6/24Cadillac Palace - Chicago

The group that I went with loved this show! It was a great experience and we had a lot of laughs. The venue was small and lines got long for drinks and the restrooms, but the show was great!
