I admired DEAD OUTLAW for the originality of its story and an exceptionally talented cast. ANYTHING that David Cromer directs is a must see, and David Yazbek and Itamar Moses' works are always rewarding. But the lyrics were often unintelligible because of the band, and the music had a tiresome sameness. Except for Thom Sesma's fantastic "To the Stars"the music seldom 'spoke' to me. Often I couldn't wait for the songs to end, and the wondrous story to resume. While I recognize the artistic mission of Audible is one of story-telling, too much of the story fell to Jeb Brown's narration. I prefer theatre that "shows"us and illuminates the story rather than "tells"the story. Past Audible shows have done both well, but the first half of DEAD OUTLAW plodded along.....
