    FABULOUS show!

by XOXOmcsorley on 4/16/24Minetta Lane Theatre - New York

We loved everything about this show. Was curious how a macabre subject could be turned into such a fantastic show. We loved Andrew Durand in Shucked....so he's the reason we went to Dead Outlaw....and we were not disappointed! Hopefully they bring this show to Broadway.

    novel, clever,great potential for Broadway

by rob on 4/16/24Minetta Lane Theatre - New York

lively opening with good cast and set; music not too striking, esp the "your dead"piece ; could use more humor; narrative becomes cumbersome;mummy should show some sign of aging (e.g. a mask.but not horrendous)

    Dead Outlaw

by MRNELSON on 4/15/24Minetta Lane Theatre - New York

Love it! Such a simple setting with so talented team, great singer in all trades. Simple story but so much to offer. Fun, fast and not a single dull moment. It is all high from the minute it started…till the end. It merits more.

A Great Start to a Good Show

by Mikey Deee on 4/8/24Minetta Lane Theatre - New York

David Yazbek is such an amazingly consistent songwriter. Dead Outlaw is one of the few new musicals I've seen in the last 10 years where I left saying, "I'd like to hear those songs again."Really, the last cast album I bought for a show was another Yazbek show, The Band's Visit. The Dead Outlaw story is fun, the band & cast are fab, and there are twists of song styles sprinkled throughout to make this a very enjoyable time at the theatre. Does it have legs to make it uptown? I hope so but the story feels thin. (That said, far thinner stories have thrived uptown.) From what I know, this is Yazbek's first musical that isn't an adaptation from a movie. I'd love to see a this original vehicle of his succeed so I hope he & the creatives can add some elements to make for a more engaging story. Also a bigger uptown budget will greatly help - the paltry set & props budget probably maxed out at $475. That said, whatever money was budgeted landed in the most important places: the band, the cast & creative team. You've got one more week to see this and it's definitely worth seeing.

    It should head to Broadway

by Rick on 4/7/24Minetta Lane Theatre - New York

Delightfully entertaining and with a bonkers story and great production, performances, singing, and music. Andrew Durand was remarkable. Thom Sesma surprised with a very funny number. Highly recommended. A winner.

    Dead Outlaw is very lively!

by KulchaVulcha on 4/7/24Minetta Lane Theatre - New York

This is one of the most exciting & original Off-Broadway shows that I have seen in years. Andrew Durand gives another standout performance, just as he did in Shucked on Broadway. A gifted singer & a wonderful actor, he spends the first half of the show as a hapless outlaw, & the second half as a loveable corpse. With an exciting score blending ballads, rock, & rockabilly it never ceases to surprise, please, & advance the mostly true story.

    A Perfect Show

by CWallnau on 4/6/24Minetta Lane Theatre - New York

It's great. Witty, dark, mordantly funny, farcical and musically all over the place and delightful. Yazbeck and Penna have done a masterful job with the music and lyrics. Any show that has the LA coroner Thomas Noguchi sing a Vegas like song about the famous people he has had on his slab, including Marilyn Monroe, Natalie Wood and Sharon Tate knows how to fearlessly push the boundaries of musical theatre. The story and presentation are as fantastical as they are true. A great cast and a rocking band holding forth center stage and make this show unforgettable. It's both a rocking concert and a play. The first half is the story of how he became a dead outlaw, the second half, with the actor standing silently in a casket tells the equally improbable story of what happened to him after. Full marks...and funny as hell.

From it's opening moment to the final one, this show is a nonstop combination of great score and band (a musical must), outstanding cast, twists and turns, including the amazing staging, laughs...just about everything that could be brilliantly thrown in. What a great time we had.

    Amazing

by David from Philly on 4/2/24Minetta Lane Theatre - New York

One of the best shows I have seen anywhere in years. The actors are stellar; the book is engaging; and the music… is still in my head several days later. Can’t wait to listen again when the cast album drops. I am sorry I waited as long as I did to see it or else I’d make plans to see it again. Kudos to the entire creative team and cast.

    Inventive amazing mostly true story

by Schatzie on 4/2/24Minetta Lane Theatre - New York

Unexpectedly funny, touching and bizarre “true” story presented in an engrossing and entertaining production with great music and terrific performances and singing. I’d see it again (if I could afford it more than once).

    Exciting, great story,

by SusieP on 3/30/24Minetta Lane Theatre - New York

Loved the music and the staging to tell this amazing story. The actors were all well cast and the performances were perfect. It is great fun but also a sad story about a life wasted. something we know about these days also.
