DEAD KENNEDYS IN CONCERT:

Few bands have mastered the art of the snarling, politically charged hardcore punk anthem as well as Dead Kennedys. For more than three decades, Jello Biafra and company have been the standard-bearers for compact punk tunes that blend sarcastic humor and serious political sentiment, and fans will be happy to know time has softened none of their acerbic wit. Biafra is known for his combative presence and vitriolic onstage rants, and he remains a supreme showman in his fourth decade with the band. Whether he's satirizing privileged Americans on "Holiday in Cambodia" or criticizing Golden State politics on "California Über Alles", Biafra always gives ticket buyers an adrenaline-fueled show that leaves little doubt why he's revered as one of punk's most iconic figures.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Dead Kennedys formed in San Francisco in 1978 and quickly built a local following with their provocative name and riotous live shows. They released their debut single "California Über Alles" in 1979, hitting the road shortly after for a well-received East Coast tour that helped them establish a national fanbase. The band's 1980 debut album Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables was a Top 40 Hit in the UK, thanks in large part to the single "Holiday in Cambodia" -- a No. 2 hit on the British indie charts and an undisputed punk rock classic. The band remained a formidable musical and political force through the mid-'80s, continually expanding their sound over the course of three more seminal albums before breaking up in 1986. All was not lost, however -- Biafra, original guitarist East Bay Ray, and original bassist Klaus Flouride got the band back together in 2001, and they've been flooring fans around the world with epic performances on tour ever since.

    Kennedys great, 2/4 for openers

by FidelSarcastro on 6/30/16Paradise Rock Club - Boston

It was a blast. butning streets opened and was decent, the welsh boys were next and got the crowd going. The next band was too loud with the notes sustained too high, and I saw people visibly wincing. Then... I forget. But THEN the deal kennedys came on. They killed it. Plus we met a guy with blue-green hair from Austin who was super friendly. I hope you read this, Adam. You were cool

Dead Kennedys still put on a great show!

by Chuck138 on 6/28/16Paradise Rock Club - Boston

I was really worried about how they would sound this many years later and without Jello but Ron "Skip" Greer absolutely killed it and was very entertaining throughout the show. There were too many opening bands (4 I believe) and personally I didn't care for most of them. One was pretty good but I still thought they all performed for too long. The Dead Kennedys however made the wait worth it and absolutely killed it.

One of the best shows I've ever been to!

by SpiritGun on 6/28/16Paradise Rock Club - Boston

I had never been to the Paradise Rock Club, and I thought it was a great little venue. You had a good view from pretty much anywhere you were. The Dead Kennedy's were absolutely amazing. Even though I'm sad that Jello is no longer a member of the band, the new singer totally rocked. He had the best stage presence I have ever seen and they all sounded fantastic. I felt like I was at an 80's punk show which was an unforgettable experience.

    Excellent even without Jello

by StarryKnight on 3/8/16The Fillmore - San Francisco

Great show, the band sounds awesome. The dude they hired to sing does a decent Jello rip-off. Who the hell wants to hear Viva Las Vegas, though??

Gods of Punk - Dead Kennedys

by optimator41 on 3/7/16The Fillmore - San Francisco

I saw them in 1982 when they were just exploding. The band was so tight tonight. The new singer seemed to be doing his impression of Jello Biafra, which is probably better than him trying to recreate his own version. He was ok. The band killed it. They played just the right combo of songs from a few old songs to the kick ass Plastic Surgery Disasters album.

    Technical difficulties

by GoGoth on 1/20/15The Canyon - Agoura Hills

Pretty good show but Ray's guitar kept going out. They tried to make the best of it, but it is pretty crucial to their sound. Skip talked too much between songs too. I would have liked to have heard Rawhide.

by ORGMAGLOCAL on 1/20/15The Canyon - Agoura Hills

It's been many years since my last show at the canyon. A much better experience in general this time, Jan. 17th 2014 (ie. food, drinks and staff ) all good. .no complaints. Dead Kennedys were great. awesome show. Lead singer (not jello ) is a funny dude in between songs. Stalag 13 was sick. Small venus like the canyon give you a better time guaranteed !

    Well worth the trip

    by bluespunk87 on 2/11/13Lee's Palace - Toronto

My buddy Duke and I drove up from Fort Wayne, Indiana through a nasty snow storm. It took about 12 hours of driving (should normally take about half that) to get there. It was worth it. The Dead Kennedys did not disappoint us. They put on a great show, as did the opening acts. The crowd was awesome too. It was the first time either of us had been to Canada, and we were blown away by the friendliness of the people, which made for a great crowd at the show. Really happy that we weathered the storm to make the trip.

by Runner5 on 1/4/11State Theatre - St Petersburg

I do not normally listen, nor pay much attention, to the punk rock scene. I got the tickets for my boyfriend as a Christmas present and actually had a great time. It was entertaining and the crowd was fun!

Dead Kennedys were amazing. Serious and politically outspoken as always, yet fun and engaging at the same time. The opening acts were good as well, especially Dirty Tactics.
