DEAD KENNEDYS IN CONCERT:

Few bands have mastered the art of the snarling, politically charged hardcore punk anthem as well as Dead Kennedys. For more than three decades, Jello Biafra and company have been the standard-bearers for compact punk tunes that blend sarcastic humor and serious political sentiment, and fans will be happy to know time has softened none of their acerbic wit. Biafra is known for his combative presence and vitriolic onstage rants, and he remains a supreme showman in his fourth decade with the band. Whether he's satirizing privileged Americans on "Holiday in Cambodia" or criticizing Golden State politics on "California Über Alles", Biafra always gives ticket buyers an adrenaline-fueled show that leaves little doubt why he's revered as one of punk's most iconic figures.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Dead Kennedys formed in San Francisco in 1978 and quickly built a local following with their provocative name and riotous live shows. They released their debut single "California Über Alles" in 1979, hitting the road shortly after for a well-received East Coast tour that helped them establish a national fanbase. The band's 1980 debut album Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables was a Top 40 Hit in the UK, thanks in large part to the single "Holiday in Cambodia" -- a No. 2 hit on the British indie charts and an undisputed punk rock classic. The band remained a formidable musical and political force through the mid-'80s, continually expanding their sound over the course of three more seminal albums before breaking up in 1986. All was not lost, however -- Biafra, original guitarist East Bay Ray, and original bassist Klaus Flouride got the band back together in 2001, and they've been flooring fans around the world with epic performances on tour ever since.

  • Bring back Jello or end the band

by Matt on 6/22/22Jannus Live - St PetersburgRating: 1 out of 5

The venue was fantastic as usual, but the front man of Dead Kennedy's pretended to be drunk the entire set, barely knew the words, and couldn't sing to save his life. He also would say things like "we're not a political band but..." And it wasn't satire. Also as a call to trying to be relevant without actually keeping up, the only thing he'd say is "F- Ron DeSantos." With not much more context than to try and get a rise out of the crowd for a 'woo!' All-in-all this was just a money grab by greedy old band members trying to fill the husk of the name Dead Kennedy's.

  • Bad sound quality, Kennedy got a little too political,

by Zeroremy on 6/21/22Jannus Live - St PetersburgRating: 3 out of 5

Nek Romantix saved show.leave politics at home! Outdoor venue in summer months suck!

  • Too drunk lead

by Meh on 6/21/22Jannus Live - St PetersburgRating: 1 out of 5

  • Dead Kennedys politifest

    by Johnboy808 on 6/21/22Jannus Live - St PetersburgRating: 3 out of 5

Love them for many years. Grew up woth music. Skip took the politics way too far in st pete. Also probably a bit too much on the sauce. Get it together Skip. Great job by the band

Great venue and the performance exceeded expectations!

  • Great show at a great venue

    by Brad B on 6/19/22The Masquerade - Heaven - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

To be able to see a great classic group as the Dead Kennedys in a place that screams underground music, this was the perfect night of music. I’m glad I got to experience it and see a great group.

  • Punk in 2022

by Skip on 6/19/22The Masquerade - Heaven - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

Dead Kennedys put on an awesome show. A must for all punk rockers young and all.

  • It was good

by Roberto on 6/19/22The Masquerade - Heaven - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

I arrived a little late, but still worth every penny (including the fee to get the physical ticket). I wanted to have a hard copy of the ticket for memory. I arrived when Dead Kennedys barely came on, apparently. I had an apple cider. It was great.

  • Great

by Johnny mustache on 6/19/22The Masquerade - Heaven - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

They didn't sell out the venue but at an old school punk show there’s enough people to have a good time.

  • Awesome!

First time in this venue. Fast entry. Great staff. Great views of the stage.

  • Amazing

by SD on 6/11/22Big Night Live - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

The venure was excellent; perfect size for the crowd. Opening bands were good and DK just slayed. Absolutely slayed.

  • Fresh Moves For Old Produce

by JoJo T Cat on 6/11/22Big Night Live - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Great show. Skip was fun, engaging, and energetic. If you didn’t know, you would have thought he was the original lead singer. There’s were a couple of times the band was not in sync - but I think that has always been a problem. There were three opening acts - which were all great. With all the music, They could have doubled the ticket price.

  • Venue sucked

by Nick on 6/11/22Big Night Live - BostonRating: 2 out of 5

Sound guy should be fired. When the crowd is chanting “more vocals” you have a problem.

  • F yeah

by Old guy 66 on 10/19/21Ace of Spades - SacramentoRating: 5 out of 5

Everything was like a blast to the past going to a punk show in the 80s minus the mask. Was up front all night long with a couple beers. Only draw back was how hot it was inside. If I decide to see a band play again I would like to know if the ac is working.

  • Distortion

by Sad Fan on 10/19/21Ace of Spades - SacramentoRating: 3 out of 5

The venue’s sound was horrible. The distortion was a distraction, we could hear any instruments or vocals… just feedback and noise. Disappointing. DK was ok, but ultimately, without Jello, just meh.

  • Fantastic

by Stevo on 10/18/21Ace of Spades - SacramentoRating: 5 out of 5

The show was great and ace of spades did a terrific job accommodating our request for ADA seating.

  • The show was great. The disabled seating sucked.

    by Calicocat1973 on 10/15/21The Observatory - Santa AnaRating: 3 out of 5

The show was great! Unfortunately, the only place they had for disabled people was in the back--which was fine, but they only had bar stools to sit on. Disabled people can't sit on barstools. They were able to bring me a regular chair, but it had arms. I couldn't sit in it. They need to get some armless chairs for larger people. Very non-plus-sized friendly. If you are disabled or plus-sized, don't expect any special treatment here.

  • Hard Hitting Songs and Mosh

by NN on 10/15/21The Observatory - Santa AnaRating: 5 out of 5

One of the best shows I've been too in a while. DK can still throw down and rally the crowd.

  • Loved it!!!

by The Great Brandini on 10/15/21The Observatory - Santa AnaRating: 5 out of 5

Had no idea MDC was performing until I made it to the front of the long merch line to purchase Dead Kennedy t-shirts and noticed MDC shirts and was like, WHATTT????? I hadn't seen them since I was around 16 years old. I was stoked to see them but had little to no expectations. MDC started to play and the crowd went nuts! The synergy between the band and the crowd was something I haven't felt in a long time. Then The Dead Kennedy's came out and blew the roof off the building. An amazing night to say the least. Go see this tour!
