About

DEAD & COMPANY IN CONCERT:

Deadheads rejoice! The Grateful Dead have been reborn as Dead & Company, delivering all the groovy vibes and extended jams fans know and love. Longtime Dead members Bob Weir, Bill Kreutzmann, and Mickey Hart are joined by superstar singer/songwriter and accomplished blues guitarist John Mayer as they blend rock, folk, funk, jazz, and psychedelia to blow fans' minds with epic aural bliss. With their spacey instrumental interplay and awe-inspiring solos, the group organically weaves their way through audience favorites like "Truckin'", "Casey Jones", and "Fire on the Mountain". The long, strange trip is back on the road -- Dead & Company are bringing their positive energy and uncanny musical genius to ticket buyers everywhere.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

The Grateful Dead were instrumental to the '60s psychedelic sound and hippie culture. Jerry Garcia (guitar/vocals), Bob Weir (guitar/vocals), Phil Lesh (bass/vocals), Bill Kreutzmann (drums), and Ron McKernan (keyboards/vocals) got things rolling in 1965. Excluding McKernan and Garcia, who died in 1973 and 1995 respectively, the core lineup has remained virtually unchanged sinc then. Many other musicians have helped shape the band’s sound as well, especially second drummer Mickey Hart, who joined the Dead in 1967. The band toured excessively throughout the ‘70s, ‘80s, and ‘90s, famously playing sets that exceeded the three-hour mark. After Garcia's death the group soldiered on, continuing to build their legacy through fearless sonic exploration. It was not until their 50th anniversary in 2015 that the Grateful Dead decided to retire their name. Fortunately for fans, their retirement was short-lived as pop singer/songwriter and blues guitarist extraordinaire John Mayer brought Weir, Hart, and Kreutzmann back out for more legendary jam sessions. Dead & Company continues in the Dead's spontaneous and inventive musical tradition -- just the way Deadheads like it.

    Dead Rocks the Garden

by JCDF on 11/3/15Madison Square Garden - New York

Awesome show - best songs were Deal and the classic China Cat leading in to I Know You Rider. Although break out into Truckin was pretty awesome - Althea and Morning Dew were not to shabby either (understatement). John Mayer killed it and Bobby had great energy. Mayer is a great addition to the band. A lot of energy at MSG - nothing like a live Dead show!

    The Music Never Stopped!

by Scarletfire50 on 11/3/15Madison Square Garden - NY

Been seeing the Dead live since 1982 and the Dead & Co. shows at MSG this past weekend brought back that magic and energy! John Mayer infused youthful energy into the band and they gelled perfectly! Setlists both nights were fantastic - Eyes into Terrapin (OMG!), Scarlet-Fire, Crazy Fingers...I could go on and on! Can't wait to get back on the bus (okay, train) to Philly for the Nov. 5th show. You're really missing out if you don't catch them on this tour.

Dead & Co. Light up Garden 10-30 !!!!

by goldenera25 on 11/3/15Madison Square Garden - New York

John Mayer is the real deal. The Garden was in rare form as Mayer pounds out the opening rif to Ramble On Rose. Bobby was on and sharp as usual. This lineup was very strong. Mayer made Trey look like an amateur. Keep playing those overpriced shows at the Capitol Phil. This is the only show!!!!!

by Goodtymesdj on 11/3/15Madison Square Garden - New York

Bob Weir went back in time and found his youth. John Mayer was on point! Mickey and Billy were stunning. Oteil brought a new level of funk to the Dead songs and Chimenti was on fire. This new Dead spin off is a killer show. Don't miss these guys.

    This is weird...

by BobbyWonderland on 11/2/15Times Union Center - Albany

John Mayer can play guitar and he sounded pretty good. But I don't want to hear him ruin beautiful songs like Bird Song with his poppy nonsense. Not to mention how awkward his stage presence is... Nothing about this feels like it's being done for the deadheads and true fans who love and have loved this music forever, it feels like its for money and for the people who don't truly care. Compare the setlists and music of Phil and friends with John K all weekend to that of Dead and Company's... Where the love really resides should be pretty apparent. Also, if you want the heads to be remotely happy, don't end your first show of the tour with touch of grey... sorry

John is the new Mayor (okay, Mayer) of Deadville..

by Rico4theDead on 11/2/15Times Union Center - Albany

...and we're his new Company! Oh yes, Jerry was smiling over Albany that night, when Dead & Company stepped off the stage at the conclusion of an amazing show. Could it have been a bust? Hell yeah! The bassist had chops with the Allman Brothers and the keyboardist had backed Bobby through three incarnations (The Dead, Further, and RatDog) - but with unknown John Mayer in the frontman seat, the new alchemy could have produced lead instead of gold. Instead, all of us who have been part of the scene for decades came away smiling and relieved. They had IT! Yes, IT. That almost impossible to describe mix of chaos and control that rocked our brains and reached into our chests to massage our beating hearts. (Just TRY to describe that to folks who have no clue, and little interest besides!) If only I had tickets for the rest of the 21 show tour. But who knows - I have always believed in miracles! If you can -go! By all means, don't waste a minute. And be sure to tell everyone about the images in the Steal Your Face that hangs 25 feet behind the stage, or the light show that almost speaks with intelligence. Oh newby, prepare to never experience a concert again the same way again! Your welcome.

    Mayer enrned his spot

by CapeCodSeventyNine on 11/2/15Times Union Center - Albany

Mayer is 100% into playing leads on Dead tunes. John brings a passion and enthusiasm to the music which brings the whole band up. Better than Fare thee Well band. Bob and Jeff are tight as always, Bill and Mickey bring the double drumming sound to the show that Furthur never had, Oteil adds a new sound to the whole show.

Slow pace and strings keep tight on Mayer

by Damannoa on 11/2/15MSG - NYC

After just checking out the Dead and Company show at MSG on 11/1 I can honestly say that I was disappointed with the show. The pace of the show was very slow and songs like "Shakedown Street" had no pulse to it. It seems like Bobby Wier and the old Dudes like Hart and Kruetsman can't keep up with the young guys such as Mayer and Anastasio and slow down the tempo to a complete halt. The show could have been so much better is Mayer was allowed to sing more of the Jerry's songs instead of Weir having to step in. Overall the show was good but not great. It was not worth They really need to pick up the pace of the show or the should just hang it up. Don't act old if you don't want to be labeled old Weir.

    snooze

by a6c6c6 on 11/1/15Times Union Center - Albany

I was very disappointed by the Dead and Company in Albany NY. I literally had to fight to stay awake. They went off on these really long jam sessions, they took a hour break in between sets. The best thing was the encore because they played a couple of their great songs or a song at all, not just a 25 minute jam.

    Bad Seats; Good show

This band is incomparable. Even with the long, loopy jams, it's a transporting experience.

    THEY ARE BACK!

by Jedtenn on 11/1/15Times Union Center - Albany

Hands down, this was one of the closest performances to an actual grateful dead show I have seen (since Jerry passed). John Mayer was given a lot of creative space and allowed to play full, melodic leads vs making sounds (which has been fairly typical for many of the post Jerry incarnations). The jams were meaningful and complimented the songs (like the old days ie. The playin' sounded like a playin' jam, Jed sounded like Jed, slipknot sounded like slipknot, etc), and often built in intensity and led to amazing peaks (sometimes unexpectedly) I cannot stress how melodic and in sync, this lineup is, exploring the songs in a way I have not experienced in many years. Like any show, not every moment was perfect (has it ever been?), but the frequency of sweet moments and an absolutely amazing crowd vibe made this a truly memorable show for me (brought tears of joy to my eyes). John Mayer's playing complimented the music beautifully and was getting Bobby fired up as the songs would build, driving the keys the band would transition into. Oteil sounded like he had played with the boys for years (no surprise there-I've been a big ARU fan for 20+ yrs) and really helped bring the jams to those beautiful and dark places we all adore (check out that night's help-slip-frank as an example). The interplay between oteil and Mayer during some of these moments were incredible. Billy and Mickey kept it all together as only they can truly do (billy was smiling!). Chimenti was as reliable as he always was (unofficially the Dead's 5th full time keyboardist). I came to the show excited to see the boys again, but had muted expectations about how the performance would be. I was pleasantly surprised to see them dig into the music with an intensity and execution I have not seen in very long time. I am now trying get tix for other shows on this tour as I am once again hooked big time!
