    Dean Can Dance did

by Rivrbend on 8/14/12Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - Berkeley

I saw them the last time they played the Greek. I missed all the live instrumental accompaniment, their voices were beautiful. Lisa is still a goddess. What a magical night, again!

    Dead Can Dance delivers

by BerkBob on 8/14/12Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - Berkeley

It's been a long time between records. Sixteen years. The two principals have done some film soundtracks and solo performances in the meantime. The music was very loud but clear. Both Brendan and Lisa have distinctive voices and they did several songs from their new album. No introduction of the backing musicians but they did a two hour set with only brief breaks. This is world music and electronics, heavily processed, reverbed, and tape looped. Some of the songs were sung in Arabic and Greek, with Lisa adding wordless melody. The Geek was not sold out, about 3/4 capacity. The crowd liked it enough to call for two encores. Very professional and original. Brendan Perry has one of the great voices of our time.

    AN AMAZING & UNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENCE

by JONZOMBIE on 8/14/12Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - Berkeley

Dead Can Dance live was even more amazing than I could have imagined. Soo moving, soo real, soo powerful. They did not skip a beat. Everything sounded perfect, they sounded perfect. it was a night I will not soon forget. If you have the oppurtunity to see them live, dont think twice. Im happy I ended up going to this rather than Outside Lands.

DCD - good and the not so good

by Taisia on 8/14/12Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - Berkeley

Lovely evening listening to wonderful band. However, three things that broken the almost perfect space The yellow/blue lights on the stage that basically blinded everyone who sat in the sections1 & 2, and the opposite side. The constant discussion behind us from folks standing in the beer lines. And the last thing; the fact that the seating on the cement seats were crowded, tight and cramped and uncomfortable - for paying for $75.00 a ticket. Also for $75.00 for what I feel were worse than the General grass area which were $35.00 The group itself was amazing. There were several songs that brought me to tears because Lisa's voice is so moving.

    Good show

by DJVegas on 8/14/12Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - Berkeley

The first time I saw Dead Can Dance there was a stage full of people playing their hearts out. Now it’s mostly reproduced on laptops. I realize this is a sign of the times. I was not expecting it for Dead Can Dance though. Neither were the other 2 people in my group. However they sounded great. I suppose that is the most important thing. I'm not too sure about the LED cargo net back drop though. I guess what I'm saying is the show seemed less than thought out.

    Transcendent Mythos in the Greek

by TheRovinator on 8/14/12Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - Berkeley

Dead Can Dance--where have they been the last fifteen years? Maybe I am out of the loop, but they fell off my radar screen. Then I see they are playing the Greek and figure what the heck. They'll either be a bunch of old crones in wheelchairs trying to bolster their retirement or, just perchance, they might be realizing they have a lot to offer and they should share it with us. Well, it was the latter., They were mesmerizing and spot on. Their records are so clean one has to worry that live they won't measure up, but they sounded even better live because, of course, they're live. LIsa's voice was from another planet, in all the best ways. If you enjoy this band's music, you owe it to yourself to catch this show!

DCD: Still perfect after all these years

by treeofaperfectpear on 8/14/12Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - Berkeley

Pros: Both voices sound like they did 25 years ago; the new stuff is really good; the band is great, including the female keyboardist who carried some of the vocal harmonies with Lisa; the set list was probably 60% his, 40% hers (no offense Lisa, but I gotta take you in small doses); set lighting is really cool; I finally got to see DCD after missing them when I was but a wee lad. Cons: The new stuff is not mind-blowingly amazing (great, but not "out there" at all); not enough old stuff (maybe a third of the set - six songs or so), and pretty sure nothing from the first two releases; the band did not cut loose at all, but I didn't expect it to; most of the esoteric instrumentation, including strings and wind instruments, was performed on keyboards; the lighting had a lot of potential but was way underutilized; short (about 90 minutes), but they did three encores. Notes: -They didn't do American Dreaming (but I could list a ton more that I would like to have heard). -No solo stuff from either one.

    Fantastic show!

by SAoROMA on 8/14/12Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - Berkeley

Dead Can Dance was amazing, Lisa Gerrard's voice was absolutely perfect and soaring over the audience at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley. It was just a beautiful show from start to finish. I was so happy there was no opening act. I really have zero patience and zero interest in opening bands, I wish every concert I went to had no opening band.

    Stunning beautiful music

by richkuhr on 8/14/12Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - Berkeley

This group doesn't fit into any one genre. They are a blend of original sounds in the most unique ensemble. I loved this performance, an unforgettable life experience.

Beautiful outdoor concert with some of the most incredible vocals I've ever heard. I highly recommend attending a concert, especially if they are playing at an outdoor venue.

    Sad but memorable

by BrendanLisaLover on 8/14/12Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - Berkeley

I have seen every incarnation of Dead Can Dance since they played at the Palace of Fine Arts in the early 90's. While every show is memorable, and they are always fabulous, this show was more of a "Brendan Perry" show. Lisa was not as prominent, and the show was maybe 6-7 pieces before they left the stage. Also, they played several songs that were new material, as they seem to be departing from their previous tour material. For the $75 concrete seat, I left a little disappointed for the first time in my love affair with this group. Maybe they are just getting older, maybe they just want to get done with the tour, who knows. Dead Can Dance, I love you always. Please give the fans their hard-earned money's worth and play longer. Thank you for touring again!

moremoremoremore! it'd be awesome if next time around DCD could put out a survey/voting system so that the fans can choose some of the setlist... i know that's presumptuous and i loved all the songs (especially Brendan's gift of Song for the Siren), but there's so much I want to hear and such little time to present.. ;) thanks

    Dead Can Dance was amazing

by getkatherine on 8/14/12Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - Berkeley

Seeing Dead Can Dance at the Greek Theater in Berkeley was a truly exceptional experience. Lisa and Brendan were fantastic individually and collectively. Both their voices were perfect for the entire performance. I'm so glad that they decided to tour after such a long break.

    Dead Can Transcend

by OtterDancing on 8/14/12Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - Berkeley

This show was so great! The unique and amazing voices of Lisa Gerrard and Brendan Perry soared to great heights. The diverse Berkeley crowd gave the band a standing ov when they took the stage, before a single note had been played, and they proceeded to show just why they deserved it! Three encores! Five songs in encore! DCD truly made the evening worthwhile! A note on the Greek: I've gone to like a million concerts in my lifetime. I've never, and I mean never, been treated so well and wonderfully by venue staff. Everyone, the usher, the security guards, the ticket taker, the people searching for contraband -- friendly, happy, efficient but in a really nice and pleasant way. I was blown away! Good job, Greek!

    Absolutely amazing!

by Toady2 on 8/14/12The Greek Theatre - Berkeley

Dead Can Dance was absolutely amazing! I was in complete awe throughout the performance and it couldn't have happened at a better venue than The Greek Theatre. I can't wait to see them again. It was completely worth the 16 year wait.
