I always enjoy concerts at this venue. The music was great
Seeing David Sanborn and David Benoit at theMontalvo Arts Center was amazing. The venue is now my favorite - a beautiful setting, not too big, and terrific ambiance. I've seen both Davids play elsewhere and this is by far the best. The sound at Montalvo is perfect. Both musicians are masters of their craft. An extra bonus was the appearance of Jeff Kashua playing with Benoit. It was a terrific evening under the stars.
The concert was a great mix of funk, smooth jazz and rock
This is a real treat,my first David Sanborn Concert...Not my last. I have been l listening to Sanborn for 25+ years..and Live is the key.His band complements him but not overpowering him .Such control with the sax can only happen with many years of experience. He played for 90 min. and just scratched the surface, he could have gone on with more.No BS just real good Jazz. To see him at the Canyon club is the best way.I would call a one on one or having dinner and drinks in your home with friends and David Sanborn shows up....Will I be back? What do you think...
This was the first time that I was able to catch David Sanborn in concert after many tries. I have a number of his album/CDs and really dig his sound. The show at the Canyon was very good although I thought it would last a little longer. David played a good mixture of mellow and up tempo grooves that kept me and my ladies bobbin' , tappin' and rockin'. The only disappointment (if you can call it that.) was he didn't play my all time favorite tune of his, "HEY!" from the "Up Front" CD. All in all it was a really great experience.
What an Outstanding concert--on one of the nicest July nights ever in Kettering ! EK and his 10 piece ensemble sounded soo-good. And then David's Quintet just kicked ass--nothing "smooth" about this jazz !!! The BEST I've ever heard him--and @ 63 ! Sure is a long time since he played Woodstock...
The most beautiful Friday night of the Summer played the hottest jazz riffs of the Summer, when Sanborn and Klugh lit the Fraze up.
The wether set the stage for a beautiful evening of fantastic jazz. Although I have their music, I had never heard either Earl Klugh or David Sanborn in person. What a treat! Both Earl and David put on great shows, it was definitely a 2 for 1! I would see either of them again both together or individually. And I already have told all my Jazz loving frineds to nver miss the opportunity to see either of these Jazz greats!
Both artists were in perfect form and provided an excellent show.
as usual, fraze did not disappoint. from the staff to the setting to the excellent show by earl klugh and david sanborn, my only wish is that i lived closer than 250 miles. i would be at many more shows than the one or two a year. thanks to the people that make these events possible. ps, we met the members of sanborn's band at the hotel that nite, and they could not have been more cordial.
Loved it!!!!!! the music, the atmosphere, & perfect night. Earl Klugh was wonderful, his band awesome! He was so cool and laid back. I would love to see him again. He should have played longer. Keep doin it Earl. David Sanborn came out with amazing energy. When he hit the stage he blew it up! His band was awesome.
The show was outstanding, unforgettable, a night to remember
Earl Klugh was great, perfect opening act. The right mood! Was there more for Earl Klugh, and was pleasantly surpised at David Sanborn. Had no idea it would be SO good!
This was a fantastic show. These two veteran Jazz greats really know how to entertain. They had great bands, (although my husband thought the sound mixer had Klugh's band too loud). Otherwise, we really enjoyed being there, and the weather was perfect. As usual, the Fraze was an excellent venue to feature these truly amazing artists and their bands. One note however---the Fraze really needs to do something to limit the people coming in late. There were people coming in up until closer to 9:00 pm for a show that started on time at 8:00 pm! Maybe they should make latecomers sit in the bleacher section at the back until intermission as the constant getting up to let them in is very disruptive to the prompt/timely audience members.
I've wanted to see Earl Klugh in concert for years but he was never in my area. Then he came to Dayton.....50 miles away was close enough for me. He was excellent! Just wish he'd played longer than an hour but understand it was a 'duo' concert with David Sanborn. Sanborn was great, too, but my interest was mainly Earl. Weather was beautiful along with a great setting at Fraze Pavilion. A memorable Friday night, for sure. Thanks for bringing such outstanding talent to Dayton, (and saving me a trip to NY to hear Earl live).
Good mello Jazz to ralax the evening and cares of the world away. Great music and Good times in a cozy outdoors atmosphere!
Earl Klugh was as laid back as a performer could be, and as an opening act and very good; he showcased his team and let them do their thing, and it is always very good to see people who like what they do. David Sanborn did about the same, showcasing his group and letting them showcase themselves. the music was good and entertaining and that's all that matters. If I had one compliant it is that neither of the two did any of my favorites...
Wait, I was wearing sandals...no socks! WOW! These guys are FANTASTIC! Earl can play that guitar sooooo so smoothly and David is such a talented sax player. Thanks gentlemen and to your musicians for coming to Kettering, Ohio -- please DO come again.
This was my first time seeing both in concert and it was well worth my money! This will have to be a yearly occurrence.
Two veteran performers who helped form the sooth jazz movement, but both can still "do it". Great show at a bargain price.
