DAVID PHELPS IN CONCERT:

Christian music vocalist David Phelps has been inspiring fans with his faith-based songs and uplifting live performances for more than two decades. Both as a member of the Gaither Vocal Band and as a standout solo artist, Phelps is known and adored for his rich tenor voice and dramatic flair with which he performs his devotional songs. Phelps is a skilled arranger with a trademark modern sound, and his live performances often feature an extensive backing band that includes trumpet, timpani, and a choir. In addition to his Southern gospel music he's released four Christmas albums, and his performances during the holiday season bring festive cheer to both religious and secular ticket buyers year after year.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Texas-born David Phelps attended college at Baylor University, where he directed the Baylor Religious Hour Choir and graduated with a degree in music and vocal performance. He made his recording debut in 1994 with the album Journey to Grace, and a few years later he joined the award-winning Gaither Vocal Band. Phelps maintained a prolific release schedule throughout the ‘00s and ‘10s both with the band and on his own, including commercially successful solo albums like The Voice (2008) and Freedom (2015). Over the course of his career he's received Grammy and Dove Awards, toured the country many times over, and racked up several platinum-selling albums. In 2013 his TV special Classic aired on PBS, uplifting fans across the country with his uniquely modern take on traditional faith-based music.

David Phelps can do no wrong. His voice is a gift and was in tremendous form. His stage banter with the audience comes across as sincere, very likeable and witty. The only slight negative is I was not that enthralled with his back up singers. They were good, just not stand outs. That said, a truly outstanding performer and show. Am a little bummed I waited so long to experience a David Phelps concert. Folks, run to your nearest box office when he's in your area.

We are BIG BIG David Phelps fans.......This was my fourth solo concert and the best by far. The scope of his talent and his voice left me in tears. He can sing in Italian, blue grass, modern contemporary .......He is the Best!!!!!! I love the new project he calls FREEDOM!!!!!! When he is not with the Gaither Vocal Band, he calls this group his family band. His two daughters sang with him, his younger sister played trumpet, his nephew does the light show and sound. IT WAS AWESOME!!!!!! If you have never seen him in person, it is an event not to be missed.

  • David Phelps/Charlotte Ritchie Concert/Spartanburg

I have been a longtime fan of the Gather Family of singers and this is where I discovered David Phelps! Let me tell you (you already know) what an amazing God-given talent David Phelps has. He is fantastic on tv, cd and dvd; but let me tell you there is no comparison to these media compared to hearing him in person! ! He is such a personable person too. I attended the VIP meet/greet where you could ask him a question, it was enlightening as to his family, his new cd/dvd "Freedom" (which is amazing), the band (which also includes his sister on trumpet and his two daughters singing backup along with the great voice of Charlotte Ritchie. He sang non-stop except for a 15 minute intermission from 7 pm to 9:30. Great concert to say the least and well worth the time and money.

Been looking forward to seeing him live for 10 years. SO DISAPPOINTED. The house sound was so bad. Mr Phelps mike was not set nearly as hot as his background singers and I was unable to understand the words to the songs that I didn't know. At one point the music was so loud, David sang a phrase (his mouth was moving) but could not hear him. ( Just because you can play it that loud doesn't mean you should.) The house sound engineer used so much reverb through the vocal mikes it muddied the sound to the point it didn't even sound like David Phelps at times. Completely missed all the fantastic vocal things he was doing. Sorry, but the house sound engineer needs to be fired. He simply doesn't know what he his doing or doesn't pay attention. David uses many family members in his concerts, daughters, sister, brother in law... awesome. Other than sound... great experience. Good people both on stage and in the audience. Sorry to complain. Just have such a high expectation with what I hear on C/Ds and in the videos.
