David Foster on Tour

Though he's best known as the behind-the-scenes producer and songwriter for megastars like Celine Dion, Michael Buble and Josh Groban, David Foster isn't afraid to step out in front of the mic on occasion. In 2018, he launched The Hitman Tour, a special series of intimate shows that saw him perform selections from his vast repertoire of hits on the piano alongside a revolving cast of guest vocalists (including his wife, Katharine McPhee) and share stories of the songs' creation. The tour proved so successful that Foster extended it through 2019 and into 2020. But Foster isn't one to rest on his past glories: April 2020 sees the release of his first solo album in 24 years, Eleven Words, which applies the stripped-down piano setting of the Hitman Tour to a set of 11 new originals.

David Foster in Concert

Look up any adult-contemporary pop hit from the past 40 years, and there's a good chance David Foster's name is somewhere in the credits. Over the course of his storied career, the Victoria, British Columbia, impresario has mentored some of the biggest names in pop and pushed veteran rock artists to even loftier levels of success, earning some 16 Grammys and Order of Canada honors in the process. After first breaking into the music industry playing keyboards for Canadian soul-rock troupe Skylark, Foster spent the '70s as a session player for the likes of George Harrison and Diana Ross, before scoring his first high-profile writing credit on Earth, Wind & Fire's classic 1979 slow jam "After the Love Has Gone." But through his early-'80s collaborations with Chicago, Foster minted his signature glossy sound, transforming the group from a jazzy classic-rock warhorse into a soft-rock hit machine before applying that Midas touch to Lite-FM divas like Celine Dion and Whitney Houston in the '90s. Amazingly, Foster's hitmaking prowess has only grown more potent since then — in the 21st century, he turned Michael Buble from a wedding singer into a world-class crooner and guided Josh Groban's crossover from classical to pop. But for all his successes behind the boards, Foster has never lost his passion for performing, by periodically tending to his own career as a solo artist in between his production work.

    A great show

by SKD on 3/6/24Atlanta Symphony Hall - Atlanta

David Foster is a musical icon. All of his music will stand the test of time. I brought my preteen kids to this show, bc they are both musically inclined & my son plays the piano - you don't get much better than seeing David Foster live! Although most of our audience was middle aged to older, they enjoyed the show as well. It was a great show with beautiful music & some laughs, even with the light profanity :-) It felt real. Katharine MacPhee has a fabulous voice and the loving banter between the two of them is very sweet. We saw them in Atlanta, GA and Daniel Emmett from America's Got Talent also performed. I would have preferred to be surprised by a guest appearance by Josh Groban (apparently he performed at their show in FL) but I guess we attended the wrong show :-) I would highly recommend seeing them if you are a fan of David Foster's music. He is just phenomenal!

The David Foster concert exceeded my expectations in every way. Kay McVee was fabulous. She should have won American Idol. Want a talent. I am looking forward to them coming back to Atlanta!

    Enchanting

by Connie on 3/6/24DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

Love David Foster's personality and his extraordinary talent. Love Katharine McPhee's beautiful voice and the banter between them. Musically extraordinary with these two! When they brought their son out to play the drums I was floored! Of course this child would have musical talent between these two remarkably capable people. Having Clay Aiken in the audience and singing was an extra special touch. Hope they come back to Raleigh in the future. The coordination of DPAC and all the folks helping to get us across the street safely and the ease of entering/exiting is top notch.

    Wonderful Show!!

by JanM on 3/6/24Atlanta Symphony Hall - Atlanta

This was a fabulous show that highlighted David Foster’s incredible work as well as featuring Katherine McPhee’s beautiful voice. They had a playful banter back and forth that gave the audience a chance to see them as a couple not just two talented performers. The playlist included many of Foster’s best known hits as well as classic songs that featured McPhee vocal skills. It had high energy and was an outstanding performance!

At Home with Dave & Kat

by Snowy on 3/6/24Atlanta Symphony Hall - Atlanta

This was by far the best concert I’ve been to…and at age 81, I’ve been to a lot over the years. It was like sitting in the Fosters living room and chatting about music and the entertainment industry. The banter between Dave and Kat was so refreshing and funny plus hearing all the stories and musical excerpts was delightful. Kathryn’s voice was powerful and has improved over the years. The entire group was so talented and entertaining. The evening went too fast!

    A spectacular performance!

by Marcia on 3/6/24Atlanta Symphony Hall - Atlanta

The concert was spectacular! David Foster’s opening with the use of background videos of the variety of artists singing his many hits going back decades was so creative! Katharine McPhee’s singing and dance moves were fantastic. David and Kat warmly addressed the audience and expressed appreciation to us and to their background musicians. It was an unforgettable concert.

    WOW - Fantastic Fun Show

by Lawler the Lawyer on 3/6/24Atlanta Symphony Hall - Atlanta

I bought tickets for this show, having never seen either performer live, but being vaguely familiar with their respective work through coverage on American Idol and the occasional entertainment news story. I was planning on going with my wife, as a romantic gift. Long story short, she couldn't go, so I was going to sell my tickets. Something told me, "Go Anyway." I am SO GLAD I WENT!!! The musicianship and performances of everyone on stage - simply staggering. Being a musician myself, I was keenly attuned to the backing band who brought their A GAME! The vocals were nothing short of amazing - the absolute definition of PROFESSIONAL singing, but still having enough fun, spontaneity and joy to prove to even the most casual observer that they were watching A-Listers doing what they do best. I can't say enough GOOD things about the entire show. With no opening act and a 1hr 45 trip through the catalogs, it was a delight from the first note to the final curtain. This is now ranked in the Top 5 live performances this middle aged man has seen (and I have seen many more than my fair share of concerts). Can't wait for them to come around again and take my wife!

    Beyond Expectations!

by Kerry on 3/6/24Atlanta Symphony Hall - Atlanta

I have been a David Foster fan ever since St. Elmo's Fire, but he has produced songs the last 40 years we hear every day. I had no idea. Then, Katharine! She was a favorite since American Idol. The banter between the two of them was fun. And the way they brought in the audience made the concert even more enjoyable.

    Better than expected!

by Joe on 2/28/24DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

David and Kat are soooo entertaining! The show was so fun, full of surprises like their 3 year old playing on a song and Clay Aiken happening to be in the audience (he did an impromptu song). David’s storytelling was very interesting. I want to go again.
