About

Since its earliest days, comedian David Cross' career was defined by two things: adoration by critics and disinterest by mainstream audiences. His stature in the alternative comedy world made him one of the subgenre's brightest stars, seemingly ripe for breakout success for literally decades. Highly intelligent, brutally honest, and often confrontational, Cross never seemed to care too much about conventional success. To his apparent amusement, these potential breakout roles came and went without acceptance by the general public. Nevertheless, the size of the cult following that he earned from "Arrested Development" (Fox, 2003-06) and "Mr. Show with Bob and David" (HBO, 1995-98) eventually resembled conventional success in everything but name.

David Cross' Minneapolis show was....not his best

by MNCOMEDYFAN on 10/6/09State Theatre - Minneapolis

Todd Glass (a local favorite) opened, and warmed up the crowd. After previously seeing David Cross live, and reading amazing reviews (Facebook, etc.) of his weekend acts in Chicago and Milwaukee, our expectations for the Minneapolis show were were high, and Cross fell short. Cross stumbled through his set, often losing momentum....not sure if he was tired from "giving his best" on the weekend, or just wasn't having a good day. No hecklers or other distractions....should've been an easy night. "Sign language guy" was funny, "blogger guy" was just redundant and unnecessary. Abrupt ending to the set - very awkward. Post-show Todd Margaret preview clip was hilarious.

    David Cross does not disappoint

by vtest on 10/6/09State Theatre - Minneapolis

great show - I needed the laugh and he delivered. love that he does not water down his act and is not affraid to tell off-color jokes, given how uptight people can be around here. Very casual, personable style.

    smart and funny

by suicidesmitty on 10/6/09State Theatre - Minneapolis

David Cross put on a good show for what seemed like a marathon length comedy act. There were a couple of duds and a couple jokes relating to TV shows I've never seen (therefore I didn't get the jokes), but overall the material was honest, intelligent and insightful. I guess you could say it's standard fare David Cross- taking on religion, leftie political causes and pushing the envelope, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Great way to spend an evening. Fully entertaining.

    Cross Rocks in the Chi

by Anonymous on 10/5/09Congress Theater - Chicago

David was on his A game for the event at the Congress Theater Sunday night. Outstanding, to say the least, laughed my a** off most of the time. I couldn't agree with his opinions on religion more and he certainly held true to some hilarious ways of delivering his message.

I actually had tears running down my face!

David Cross was hysterical! I would absolutely recommend his show to anyone. It's an hour and a half of great, original comedy.

    Rambling man

by CrossFan on 10/5/09Congress Theater - Chicago

David is generally great, but he tends to ramble a bit off topic. His bit on drugs, while funny, went on too long. Unless you are a druggie yourself, you many not be able to identify with all the humor.

    Meh

    by Stretch2643 on 10/5/09Congress Theater - Chicago

His preformance had it's funny moments, but really lacked cohesion. He (attempted) to use seveal audience plants wtih only mild success, partially do to the fact that none of their microphones worked so it was hard to hear the jokes from where we were sitting. His humor still feels like it would be better utilized in a sketch show rather than doing stright stand-up. Even though I agree with his political ideoligies, there were parts where it felt preachy, and even I wanted him to move on and get to the funny rather than lecturing me about healthcare.

    Black Out Hilarious

by Tricon on 10/5/09Congress Theater - Chicago

David Cross nails it again. From beginning to end, the entire show was beyond hilarious. David covered everything from observational humor to politics and religion. Heckled towards the end of the show by a man from the balcony, he even turned that situation on its head producing even more laughs. Definitely see David Cross live.

David Cross is lukewarm at best

by lindafreebush on 9/26/09Orpheum Theatre - Phoenix

Some notes: 1. The Orpheum in Phoenix, AZ is AMAZING! 2. Todd Glass=naptime 3. David Cross needs to think of more creative ways to combat hecklers. 4. Cross's set only lasted about an hour...if that. I payed 40 bux! 5. Not a total bust, but he didn't come correct with his golden material.

    Unfortunate

by NotVeryPCinAZ on 9/24/09Orpheum Theatre - Phoenix

Other than the awkwardly inserted 20-minute rant in support of ObamaCare and vitriolic attack on Republicans, Christians and Mormons, I found the act to be funny. But next time you want to hold a political rally, disguised as a comedy show, why don't you pay me instead? Not even edgy, it was lazy, low-hanging politically-correct fruit he was picking. He went on so long with the rant that he had to cut his comedy portion short. Boo.

    David Cross - highly recommended!!!

    by slow12s on 9/24/09Orpheum Theatre - Phoenix

By far the best standup act I've seen. Almost every joke was new and not from a previous cd or an act and the opening act was also hilarious. I would go see David Cross again anytime he is in town and I'd certainly love to sit down and have a drink or smoke a bit with a fellow athiest/agnostic jew. Thanks for a great show.

    Hecklers go home!

by NGRLVR on 9/24/09Orpheum Theatre - Phoenix

David was rudely interrupted by one or more hecklers regularly throughout the show, but received cheers for his cunning rebuttals. One heckler shouted, "Take off your hat!" Another yelled, "Take off your glasses!" David proceeded to undress and moon the crowd. Despite these distractions, David put on a hilarious show. His new material was pleasurably hip and abrasive, although l wished it even more abrasive. Thanks for the laughs, David! I am a dedicated fan!

    David Cross is freaking hilarious!

by pinkrunner on 9/24/09Orpheum Theatre - Phoenix

This was a great show. David did all new material and had some new stories to talk about. The only problem was the people in Phoenix kept shouting out stuff, which caused him to stop in the middle of stories that he never got back to. Basic rule at a comedy show, people are paying to see the performer, not the idiot in the audience. It would have been better if David had the people yelling kicked out. I feel like I did get jipped a bit. But he was funny, and I would recommend this show to anyone!
