About

Theater, television and film dot David Alan Grier's career to date, and his
ability to excel in all three mediums is a testament to the man's inherent
sense of comic timing. Trained in Shakespeare at Yale where he received an
MFA from the Yale School of Drama, the multi talented Grier was
subsequently named one of Comedy Central's "100 Greatest Stand-ups of All
Time".

Grier began his professional career on Broadway as Jackie Robinson in The
First, for which he earned a Tony nomination for Best Featured Actor in a
Musical and won the Theatre World Award (1981). He then joined the cast of
Dreamgirls before going on to star opposite Denzel Washington in A Soldier's
Play, for which both actors reprised their roles in the film adaptation titled A
Soldier's Story. He appeared in Robert Altman's Streamers and won the
Golden Lion for Best Actor at the Venice Film Festival (1983).

His television work is highlighted by a turn as principal cast member on the
Emmy Award winning In Living Color (1990-1994) where he helped to
create some of the show's most memorable characters, DAG (2000-2001)
and Life with Bonnie (2003) which earned an Image and Golden Satellite
nomination. David created, wrote and executive produced a show for
Comedy Central called Chocolate News (2008). Grier also won America's
votes as a smooth, debonair, and outrageously irreverent contestant on
ABC's smash hit Dancing with the Stars (2009). But Grier didn't hang up his
dance shoes just then—he later appeared in the Wayans Brothers' spoof
movie Dance Flick which hit theatres in May 2009.

In Grier's first book, BARACK LIKE ME: The Chocolate Covered Truth
(Touchstone / Simon & Schuster; October 6, 2009), the acclaimed comedian
expounds on politics, culture and race while recounting his own life story in
this edgy, timely, timeless, and hilarious memoir and look at all things
Barack.

Grier returned to his theatrical roots 2009/2010; he starred in David
Mamet's acclaimed play RACE opposite James Spader and Kerry Washington
at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre on Broadway for which he received a Tony
Award nomination. He just wrapped filming the comedy WE THE PEEPLES
opposite Kerry Washington and Craig Robinson. Produced by Tyler Perry, the
film is set for release in 2011.

David Alan Grier was great - and so were warmups!

by ComedyloverMA on 3/4/14Cobb's Comedy Club - San Francisco

David Alan Grier put on a real show - he was funny, he was in command, and he had incredible presence. Only limitation is he did a bit that was part of the youtube clips that Cobb's provided on their site. Dave Seigel and the woman who was MC were both really good!

This was a cash grab. Was so disappointed. Will continue listening to David A Grier on the Adam Carolla show where DAG shines. This performance was boring. Really disappointed.

I was very disappointed. My husband and I saw David Alan Grier in Tempe, AZ over two years ago. This was the same routine word for word.

    DAG does not disappoint

We may disagree with him politically, but overall DAG was a great way to spend a Saturday night. We would go see him again.

One of the best in the business

by Br0wnBear on 2/3/13Talking Stick Resort - Scottsdale

I see on average about 15-20 comedy shows a year so I have seen the gamut of performers. I can say without a doubt that DAG is truly talented and one of the best I've seen. His jokes were all timely, he had plenty of crowd interaction (including directly with me on several occasions), drew from his personal life, and his mixture of comedy, facial expressions, intonation, and singing literally had me laughing so hard that my stomach hurt and tears were streaming down my cheeks. His opening act was also VERY funny and would be somebody that I would go see if he was headlinging a show- THAT good. I bought tickets for myself and 3 friends and all of us agreed that it was one of the funniest people we've ever seen. Do yourself a favor and go see this show.

    The Man Is Hilarious!

by ChristinaInSacramento on 12/10/12Punch Line Comedy Club - Sacramento - Sacramento

David Alan Grier was absolutely side-splitting, and his spot-on delivery is a large part of what makes his act so funny. He did not disappoint on any level and his ability to play off of the people in the front row was talent at its best. The room loved him, and we personally laughed so hard we could barely breathe. A must-see. My favorite Punch Line performer to date.

I did not expect him to be so funny but he was down right hilarious and so were his opening acts. By far the best I have seen in a long time.

    David Alan Grier Was Awesome!

by dagfan on 7/11/10Cobb's Comedy Club - San Francisco

He is a must see. Physical, animated, and downright hilarious. His jokes are dirtier than you might expect, and unless you want to be the subject of most of his jokes for the rest of the show, don't sit in the front rows.

    ABSOLUTLEY FUNNY AS HELL!

by Dillon1 on 7/10/10Cobbs Comedy Place San Francisco - San Francisco

David Allen Grier was so funny. He has the audienece in tears. He came out and the crowd exploded in laughter. He was energetic and just plain funny. He touched on taboo issues like race and sexual orientation. He was great and afterwards did a book signing and posed for pictures. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

    DAG @ Cobb's

by TQH1 on 7/10/10Cobb's Comedy Club - San Francisco

David Alan Grier has long been one of the funniest comics around. Last night's show at Cobb's proved that once again! His observations on dating, politics, and life in general, had the crowd rolling in the aisles. Although "In Living Color" may have launched his career, he is sustaining that career with pure talent. He remains one of my favorite comedians.

David Alan Grier was a crack-up!

by HappilyLaughing on 7/9/10Cobb's Comedy Club - San Francisco

I went to see this with a friend who was in town from New York and we had the best time. We had tickets from on line, excellent seats, a short wait on line before the doors opened, a great parking place and laughed a lot. It's our tradition to see comedy whenever we get together and we were not disappointed. It was our first time at Cobbs and we'll be going back.
