About

DAVE RAWLINGS MACHINE IN CONCERT:

Dave Rawlings Machine is the latest project of acclaimed guitarist Dave Rawlings, best known as the musical partner of Grammy-nominated bluegrass artist Gillian Welch. Now performing under his own name with his band the Machine, Rawlings brings the same impressive musicianship he's become famous for to the table, wowing fans at his live shows with his deftly crafted songs and the vintage tone of his 1935 Epiphone Olympic guitar. On his latest tour Rawlings and the Machine will treat ticket buyers to cuts from their 2009 album A Friend of a Friend alongside barnstorming covers of bluegrass classics.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Rhode Island-born David Rawlings studied at Boston's Berklee College of Music before rising to prominence as the musical partner of Gillian Welch.  As co-writer and producer Rawlings released five acclaimed albums with Welch, garnering several Grammy nominations including Best Contemporary Folk Album nods for Revival (1996) and The Harrow & The Harvest (2011). In 2009 Rawlings and his band the Machine made their album debut with A Friend of a Friend, which he produced himself in Nashville. In addition to his releases with Welch, his production and studio credits include work for Old Crow Medicine Show, Bright Eyes, and Ryan Adams. Back on tour, Rawlings and the Machine will treat fans to their uniquely brooding take on bluegrass and Americana.

    First time seeing Dave

    by Billboo2341 on 1/20/18Tivoli Theatre - Chattanooga

My wife and I try to hit several shows a year at the Tivoli in Chattanooga. We're more of a 'classic rock' couple, but we enjoy listening live to different types of music. Bottom line: we really enjoyed Dave Rawlings! Toe tapping Americana folk! Fantasic harmonies and lyrics. Will definitly see him again next time he rolls into town!

    Hootenanny of musicianship!

by bodhishin on 10/6/16Rio Theatre - Santa Cruz

Incredibly tight musicianship lead by Dave Rawlings amazing guitar. Gillian's and Dave's songwriting rivals the best in any category of any era. The band created a loose, friendly, and energetic feel throughout the show.

    David Rawlings machine rocked!

by Markyboy57 on 10/5/16Rio Theatre - Santa Cruz

I was blown away on how much energy comes out of this band unplugged! David's guitar solos are so amazing, and the harmonies from Gillian, Willie, and Dave were heaven to listen to! Love to see them again!

    Repetitive

by Ginovinchi on 10/4/16Rio Theatre - Santa Cruz

I have a nephew who can do everything on a guitar that Dave did without all the bouncing and grimacing. Lines in songs repeated seemingly endlessly. Gillian Welch is probably better on her own. But it was pretty rockin', in a Santa Cruz way, and the final song had 'em dancin' in the aisles.

This was a great show in a fabled venue. The band was fully engaged, enjoying themselves and played great music. Mostly standing, general admission.

    Dave Rawlings Machine was great!

by Susanna2 on 10/4/16Rio Theatre - Santa Cruz

Love the five of them together. Plus, they played for a long time so I never felt short changed! Can’t wait to see them again. I like how every member was involved. MY only complaint: not enough of Gillian Welch solo!!!!
