About

DAVE RAWLINGS MACHINE IN CONCERT:

Dave Rawlings Machine is the latest project of acclaimed guitarist Dave Rawlings, best known as the musical partner of Grammy-nominated bluegrass artist Gillian Welch. Now performing under his own name with his band the Machine, Rawlings brings the same impressive musicianship he's become famous for to the table, wowing fans at his live shows with his deftly crafted songs and the vintage tone of his 1935 Epiphone Olympic guitar. On his latest tour Rawlings and the Machine will treat ticket buyers to cuts from their 2009 album A Friend of a Friend alongside barnstorming covers of bluegrass classics.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Rhode Island-born David Rawlings studied at Boston's Berklee College of Music before rising to prominence as the musical partner of Gillian Welch.  As co-writer and producer Rawlings released five acclaimed albums with Welch, garnering several Grammy nominations including Best Contemporary Folk Album nods for Revival (1996) and The Harrow & The Harvest (2011). In 2009 Rawlings and his band the Machine made their album debut with A Friend of a Friend, which he produced himself in Nashville. In addition to his releases with Welch, his production and studio credits include work for Old Crow Medicine Show, Bright Eyes, and Ryan Adams. Back on tour, Rawlings and the Machine will treat fans to their uniquely brooding take on bluegrass and Americana.

One of the best shows I've been to

by Justin787878 on 1/12/16Cullen Performance Hall - Houston

We didn't want this show to end. So much amazing talent. They played almost all the songs off both albums. Perfect show. Change nothing!

    A Thorough Delight

by randomfirings on 1/11/16Majestic Theatre Dallas - Dallas

We attended their concert not being very familiar with them. We had only seen or heard them on the video of the Another Day, Another Time concert which T Bone Burnett put together. To say we were drawn in by their live performance would be understatement. They are musicians of incredible talent who blend together so well. Dave Rawlings, Gillian Welch and Willie Watson make you feel you are listening to far more than three voices. If you get a chance to attend a concert, do so. If not, go to YouTube and be entertained.

    BACKPORCH

I FOUND MYSELF IN A VENUE OLD AND USED ENOUGH TO MATCH THE ARTISTS, BEING TRANSPORTED RIGHT BACK HOME TO MY ROCKING CHAIR CONSIDERING WHAT I WAS GONNA COOK FOR THESE FOLKS. UTMOST GRATITUDE TO THE PERFORMERS FOR COMING CLOSE ENOUGH FOR ME TO EXPERIENCE A HEART FULL OF GLORY, IF ONLY FOR A MOMENT IN THIS TEXAS GIRLS' HEART.

    Amazing show

by Mandochef on 1/11/16Cullen Performance Hall - Houston

Dave Rawlings and Gillian Welch always bring the energy for a great show!!! The additions in the band have brought great their own amazing talents in to compliment with such solid performances. Tatiana Hargreaves killed it on the fiddle. Ol' Willie Watson brought in some great vocal accompaniments and great humor. And, finally Paul Kowert holding down the Bass fiddle and some fine vocals to boot.

    Dave Rawlings Machine was magical!

by rockel on 1/4/16Ryman Auditorium - Nashville

From the moment they stepped on stage till the end of their second encore, I had goosebumps. I have seen many shows at that venue & loved them, but there was definitely something magical with Dave Rawlings, Gillian Welch & Willie Watson as the Dave Rawlings Machine. Go see them!

    Dave Rawlings always pleases

    by LTC2 on 11/28/15Tennessee Theatre - Knoxville

Dave Rawlings and friends were, once again, fantastic. I've seen him and Gillian (and others) play several times over the past 14 years, and I have never been disappointed. I love how well Dave and Gillian mesh and the ease and calm they bring to the stage. Dave's unique guitar sound always stands out and is a favorite. I very much enjoyed seeing Willie Watson, who brings a fun flare and talent (he was sorely missed at the last OCMS concert). Paul Kowert's deep bass and surprisingly sweet, melodic voice was a treat. And last but not least, I really enjoyed Brittany Haas on fiddle. She was fun to watch, and the addition of her sound to a couple songs I've heard live many times really opened them up and gave a wonderful deeper dimension. This was also my daughter's first concert. She's been a fan since she was about 3-4 yrs old. THIS band at THIS venue (a theater we both love) was the perfect choice, and I think she will cherish it forever.
