Flash back city
by Samdroney on 4/5/24Bijou Theatre - KnoxvilleGreat to hear songs that take me back in time. I think Dave sounded great, I wasn't to keen on his blues version's of some of his songs. Overall, a great show.

David Mason is an English musician, singer, songwriter, and guitarist from Worcester, who first found fame with the rock band Traffic. In his long career, Mason has played and recorded with many of the era's most notable musicians including Jimi Hendrix, Michael Jackson, The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, George Harrison and Mama Cass Elliot. Mason's best known song is "Feelin' Alright" recorded by Traffic in 1968 and covered by dozens of artists, including Joe Cocker, who had a major hit with the song in 1969. For Traffic, he also wrote "Hole in My Shoe" a kind of psychedelic satire that became a classic in its own right. "We Just Disagree" Mason's 1977 solo hit written by Jim Krueger, has become a staple of Oldies and Adult Contemporary radio playlists.

This rock n roll icon delivers, with his hand-picked compadres, an awesome history lesson š
I have waited over 50 years to see Dave Mason perform live. He was/is one of my guitar heroes. The concert itself was great. The sound mix was perfect and all the musicians were top-notch. What I was disappointed with was the no photography rule. As mentioned above, I've waited over 50 years to see Dave and wanted a memento of the occasion. I can understand a "no flash"request, but an outright ban is frustrating to say the least. That is my only complaint of an otherwise great concert.
Great concert. Great venue. Soon glad we went. We will keep The Bijou on our radar for sure
Good show, but I would prefer to have the classics played as I know and love them.
Excellent show Traffic , Blind Faith , Delaney and Bonnie All along the watchtower Feelin alright awesome encore
I checked carefully before buying tickets that Daveās show was going to focus on songs we knew and love. ( I had a miserable experience at Bob Dylan because he played no hits). Dave played a revised version of Low Spark of High Heeled Boys that he had collaborated with Joe Bonamassa. It was so awful it was almost unrecognizable. I was surprised people clapped. I felt a sense of pending doom. Luckily the show improved from there. When the first chords of Mr. Fantasy rang out, the crowd cheered and I held my breath. It was okay, predominantly due to the quality of the supporting band vocals. If youāve never seen Dave Mason, do so while you still can. If you have seen him long ago, youāll probably be disappointed. The Bijou Theatre is Knoxville TN is a great venue.
Had a great album of his when I was a teenager and knew some of his other songs so I thought it might be fun It was GREAT! Man, can he play guitar! Great song selections, one's he wrote. What a great night of music
Saw Dave Mason with the outlaws opening up. This was truly a classic show. Dave is a legend playing with the Spencer Davis group and Traffic. I felt honored to be in the same room with him and have a traffic t shirt he autographed. He took the time to sit in the crowd and do autographs. Class act!
If you ever get a chance to see BOTH The Outlaws & Dave Mason(together or separately) run,do not walk, to get your seats. BOTH acts were powerful, professional, interactive, and the musicianship was off the scale!! The BEST 3 lead electric guitars I have ever seen on stage with the Outlaws performance. Dave was his consumate professional self and his band was just as good. Both set lists were great too! Dave's Traffic daze were on full display with his set list,as were his solo and cover stuff...very eclectic set list for Dave and we loved it. Spanned his entire 57 yr career.
A few of the "re-imaginings"were a bit off the mark for me tho my wife was very fine with them. "The Low Spark of High Heeled Boys"in particular. It is such an Iconic song. I was lucky to see Traffic with the full band many, many years ago and that song in particular, was the high point. Vanilla Fudge keyboardist Mark Stein playing and singing "You Keep Me Hangin' On"was a surprise and a treat. He came out after the show to sign autographs tho the music is the thing for me. Go See Them!!!
Dave was in great form musically , but left a lot of singing to Mark Stein, whose appearance was a welcome surprise. They played all the old songs from Traffic, Blind Faith, and Dave's solo career but didn't get very deep into the catalogue. Would've loved to have heard World In Changes! Dave did an autograph session after the show, which was fantastic, but he came across as a grumpy old man. Saw him live 50 years ago and got to see him again up close. Another box checked off my bucket list.
Show was better than expected finishing touch was the vanilla fudge song keep me hanging on sung by mark stein
Opening act was The Outlaws and they absolutely nailed it - they were great. Dave Mason - well, not so much. No performance value, no lighting, sound was horrible, he was "angry", 2 or 3 minutes between songs - was very much like a garage band practice. We left after 3 songs - we just could not take the poor sound and the way his performance was set up. Dave sang OK, his keyboard player - blasted us - way to loud (voice and keys). The Outlaws made the cost of the ticket worth going. Very disappointed in Dave Mason. (and yes I get he's 77 years old now) It wasn't really Dave's fault -it was the whole band in particular the sound setup. Average age was about 70 and those older folks also were leaving because of how bad the sound was - they could not handle it either.
Iām older and Ive seen both the Outlaws and Dave Mason . I was surprised how great a show it was.
Iāve been going to Dave Masonās concerts since the 70ās! Love him, love his songs! I always leave his concerts wanting more. Just saw him at The Parker in Ft. Lauderdale. Amazing time. Wish his concerts were longer. Canāt wait to see him again.
Dave Mason and band rocked the house. Such a great entertainer and the perfect venue. Easy to get to, parking is convenient. Valet available and the staff is helpful and friendly. I love coming here.
Dave continues to play to audiences with high enthusiasm and energy. Iāve been going to his shows since (gulp) 1972. He plays to his fans. Songs from Traffic, Blind Faith and of course his own. Meets and Greets us after and seems genuinely happy to be with us. Keep rocking Dave.
The band played so many Traffic songs, transporting us back to a magic time in music history. Can't Find My Way Home was deeply moving and very timely... still.
Perfect Venue: easy, organized parking, helpful volunteers, and great sound. Pat Travers opened, gave a spirited 45 minutes of blues rock. Dave Mason was superb. Engaging, great tales of the beginning of REAL rock & roll. His band is perfect, every song was a hit, and his playing is as good as ever. And he's 78! Keyboardist is founder of Vanilla Fudge, so they closed with that. No one wanted to leave! Now, to be picky, the audience was told over and over, no lights, pix or video. Of course right after the light go down, half of them start taping. SO rude, and of course, nobody was told to stop. Even so, we'd go again tomorrow. Dave Mason is a treasure, see him while you can.
