About

David Mason is an English musician, singer, songwriter, and guitarist from Worcester, who first found fame with the rock band Traffic. In his long career, Mason has played and recorded with many of the era's most notable musicians including Jimi Hendrix, Michael Jackson, The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, George Harrison and Mama Cass Elliot. Mason's best known song is "Feelin' Alright" recorded by Traffic in 1968 and covered by dozens of artists, including Joe Cocker, who had a major hit with the song in 1969. For Traffic, he also wrote "Hole in My Shoe" a kind of psychedelic satire that became a classic in its own right. "We Just Disagree" Mason's 1977 solo hit written by Jim Krueger, has become a staple of Oldies and Adult Contemporary radio playlists.

    Mason rocked!

by Oseto on 3/17/15Stiefel Theatre - Salina

Great seats! Beautiful Theater! Incredible show! Nice crowd! Dave still has his chops backed up with a tight band. Enjoyed him explaining the history of his life. He is very down to earth which he showed by hanging out afterwords and signing autographs. Couldn't have had a better evening.

    Dave Mason was great

by NevisFiction on 3/16/15VooDoo Lounge at Harrah's Casino North Kansas City - Kansas City

The entire evening was filled with excellent songs and what really impressed me was just how much Dave Mason has influenced me over the years without my really being aware of it. He is a very talented song writer whose hit songs were far more numerous and durable than I remembered. I would recommend this show to anybody who likes rock, blues rock, and jam bands. These guys were really good.

Been humming his music for days

by RNRO on 3/16/15VooDoo Lounge at Harrah's Casino North Kansas City - Kansas City

As always, Mason was the consummate professional. Clearly a Dave Mason crowd, so they appreciated the Traffic session, as well as Mason's lengthy chats with the crowd between the songs. He purposely played the music 'close to what's on the album', as he said, to the applause of those attending. His second session, which he called his 'Dave' session, covered all the greats, including his early DM releases. Very good show, his voice was great, his band very good, appreciated by his fans.

Dave is one of my favorites from way back. I loved Traffic but Steve Winwood sang many of their songs but Dave did the ones he wrote and sang just like it was yesterday. He was funny and his voice was consistent with the past. I really loved his solo career in the last 70's and 80's and he didn't disappoint me at all. I think he played just about everything I wanted to hear. He also did some good story telling in between songs about other people he played with, songs he wrote and how they all got started. Other than his sweating like a pig ( I almost felt bad for him) the show couldn't have been any better. A must see.

    Time changes things

by NoSpark on 11/15/14Dave Mason's Traffice Jam at Sprit Square - Charlotte, NC

This concert could have been great but instead, I walked out before the encore. Dave butchered Low Spark right out of the gate and played too many songs off his new album. The mix was poor, hearing the occasional sixty cycle hum never helps, and the drummer must have thought he was playing Shea Stadium it was so Proud for the small theater. I get the fact that Dave has been playing the same songs for decades and wants to tweak them, but I came to hear the original sound not some new rendition(s). Dave had to tune his guitar on stage, just illustrating to me that he just was not ready to rock the place. I left so I did not have to hear this band step-on any more of my favorite memories. I will say, the rest of the audience was into it though.

I almost walked out it was so bad!!

by TheSanityCruzer on 4/10/14Rio Theater - Santa Cruz

I like Dave Mason and I had seen him live prior to seeing his horrible attempt at covering Traffic songs which were originally sung by Stevie Winwood. Dave Mason's rendition of Low Spark of High Heeled Boys was unbearably bad. Dave Mason can still sing his own songs well, but he has zero business singing songs that he butchers, let alone from a band that he was not in for very long (was it one or two albums?). That would be like Pete Best playing the Beatles music, just because he was in the band originally. If Dave Mason had at least done a credible job of singing and if the band had done a decent job of playing the music of Traffic, I would likely have enjoyed it. Instead, I sat in my seat thinking, "If they don't do a good song soon, I'm leaving." I will NEVER pay to see Dave Mason live again. I saw Traffic live and I'm going to see Winwood live (again) soon. If I wanted to see a cover band perform the songs of Traffic, I would at least want to see one which paid tribute to the band, not someone such as Mason who is simply making money off his one time association with the band. Worst act I've seen in many many years!! AVOID THIS ACT!

Sneak Preview to the Traffic Jam

by donutdoor on 12/16/13Uptown Theater - Napa

Dave is one of my all time favorite song writers and his show at the Uptown Theater In Napa didn't disappoint. The show was titled an evening with Dave Mason and although I had heard about the upcoming "Traffic Jam" shows I really didn't expect to see much of that. At the start of the show he played a few of his Alone Together hits and it was fantastic. Then he informed us that we would be the guinea pigs for some songs he was trying to remember. WOW They did Low Spark of High Heel Boys, Rock n Roll Stew, 40 Thousand Headsmen and about 6 more Traffic hits. The four piece band was spot on, the guitarist was amazing. Dave was in top form and the show went on for over two hours. I'd go see him again tonight if he was playing again. You folks on the East Coast are in for a treat. Go see the Traffic Jam shows.. He also did a song that Jim Capaldi wrote just before he died. He talked a lot about his history with the band and had exchanges with the audience in this small venue setting. Best show I've seen in quite awhile.

    Acoustic Dave Mason

by RNightOut on 2/8/12Scottish Rite Auditorium - Collingswood

This concert is for Dave Mason fans who mistakenly think he needs a band to produce a spectacular concert. Even though I have seen him in concert many times over the past 15 years, I am more than impressed with his ability to mesmerize a packed house with just his voice, guitar, and blatant natural talent. We are familiar with other rock legends whose voices have faded over the years. That certainly is not the case here. I am looking forward to many more years of first class rock from this Hall of Famer!

    Smokin' guitar playing

by PanamaEd on 2/16/11Coach House - San Juan Capistrano

Saw Dave in Capistrano on the 1st of Jan. Unbelievable performance. I saw him at the Strand 100 years ago and I swear this was a better show. I really like what he's doing with some of the song arranging. Dear Mr. Fantasy was really different and I liked it Dave and Sanbatora are powerhouse guitar players and Gerald is a kick in the pants to watch! I thought his tongue was going to fall out of his mouth! Insane bass player. Glad 2 see that Dave just gets better with time. The work he's doing for our veterans speaks volumes of this classic rockers integrity and soul. Thanks Dave ur one badass Limey!

    DISAPPOINTED

by TAKETHEMONEYANDRUN on 2/13/11Michigan Theatre - Detroit

Gerald Johnson is awesome and a great addition for Dave Mason. Hopefully he will be on time. When he did his best buy tour he started a half hour before the advertised start time. He has plenty of good songs and i am happy to see he has a band backing him up. I saw him in detroit and it was a two man guitar show. he even had a comic opening for him. Lets hope the band helps. Like i mentioned earlier, the addition of Gerald Johnson is huge.

    Dave Mason

by NolaDeb on 1/7/11Hard Rock Live - Biloxi

Dave Mason says it best, "Rock and Roll is not an age, it's an Attitude!" Dave and his band are all very talented musicians, with a serious passion for playing music. They perform together like a well oiled machine, and have a great spontaneous rapport with the audience. The set list included lots of old favorites like "Mr Fantasy" and "Feeling Alright" ~ plus some new stuff like "Good 2 U" - an instant favorite from Dave's latest album. Hard Rock Live, Biloxi - is a great venue with an excellent sound system. On a personal note, I enjoy the smaller venues for concerts. Besides the intimate appeal, the audience has easy access to refreshments, and the space allows for a fairly quick exit - that flows into another great party atmosphere. After the show, Dave Mason took time to meet and greet fans, and sign autographs. On this tour Dave Mason brings with him; Johnne Sambataro, Gerald Johnson, Chris Curtis, Alvino Bennett, Tony Patler. BOTTOM LINE: Dave Mason is on my Top Ten list of ~ All Time Best Concerts Ever! When you attend a Dave Mason concert, you feel like you are at one big party ~ with really GREAT music!
