About

Dave Chappelle Live Performance and Tour

Dave Chappelle, mastermind behind sketch comedy goldmine Chappelle's Show, made a triumphant return to stand-up comedy in 2013. While he's beloved for his famous impersonations of Rick James and Prince, Chappelle doesn't rely on old material for his stand-up act, treating fans to an all-original show featuring extensive improvisation as he interacts with audiences. At his 2013 performances on The Oddball Comedy & Curiosity Festival, which he co-headlined with Flight of the Conchords, Chappelle had fans rolling on the floor, building anticipation for his highly coveted 2014 tour dates.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT

Born David Khari Webber Chappelle in Washington, D.C., Dave Chappelle studied theatre arts in high school before moving to New York City to pursue standup comedy. Despite getting booed off stage at the Apollo Theater's infamous "Amateur Night," he remained resilient, going on to make a name for himself on the New York comedy circuit. Following several successful film appearances in the '90s, including a starring role in 1998 cult classic Half Baked, Chappelle debuted his namesake sketch comedy show on Comedy Central in 2003, finding both critical and commercial success. In 2006 he released Dave Chappelle's Block Party, a concert film set in Brooklyn featuring performances by Kanye West, The Roots, and a temporarily-reunited Fugees.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY

"Funniest live performance I've witnessed to date. You will be quoting Chappelle after the show. I was laughing so hard that it started to hurt. Great show from start to finish."

"Dave...he is a comedic genius and one of the best ever. He was amazing and  I wished I could have gotten in line and gone to the second show!"

"He was hilarious. Talked about some of his history and was not afraid to get the audience involved. I had a great time."

  • Chappelle = awesome, crowd = not so much

by laughapalooza on 6/15/12Robinson Center Music - Little RockRating: 4 out of 5

It was a very good show, when Dave finally came out. 2 comedians before him and then a 20-30 min intermission. I don't mind the other comedians and should have expected that, but you could feel that everyone was getting restless by the time Dave got out there. He was great and was able to roll with the punches, but I got sick and tired of idiots in the crowd yelling out characters from his show. Everyone should know that Comedy Central has the rights to all of that intellectual property and if he reproduces that on the street he could get sued. Other than that, and the long drink lines (blaming the venue here) it was a once in a lifetime thing. Definitely was a good Father's Day present for me!

  • The crowd ruined what could have been a great show

by Memphistom on 6/15/12The Orpheum Theatre Memphis - MemphisRating: 2 out of 5

I went into this show with a lot of excitement and I've got to say I was very disappointed. The tickets said the show would start at 7 but the opener went on closer to 7:30, did a 20 minute set, then the crowd was left waiting for Dave until 8:45. When he did finally go on he was heckled relentlessly throughout his set. From people yelling, "Your sexy Dave!" to full on questions about his career choices not a minute could go by without someone interrupting. Where were the ushers? For the $65 I paid for the ticket I would think the staff of the Orpheum would do something to control the unruly crowd but they did nothing, even allowing a person to throw a whiskey bottle at Chappelle at one point with no repocussions. The couple jokes he was able to get though were good, however the crowd seemed more interested in hearing 6 year old Rick James impressions. I hope it was just this one crowd but I'm a little worried the public won't allow Chappelle to do his thing without referencing his older work.

  • dave jsut isnt funny anymore

by dontlikedaveanymore on 6/15/12Robinson Center Music Hall - Little RockRating: 1 out of 5

Dave came out and chain smoked cigs for over an hour and had ZERO amusing material.... Shouldve stuck it out on tv because hes doomed if hes depending solely on this stand up gig.

Dave Chapelle was GREAT! However, the venue wasn't. They posted warnings of cell phone / camera use and verbally warned against heckling but they did not follow through with ejecting the people of violated these warnings. There was lots of heckling and picture taking which detracted from the show. I will serioulsy consider NOT attending anything at this venue again. I wasn't able to hear or see most of the show.

  • Very Disappointed

by the1gen on 6/15/12Robinson Center Music Hall - Little RockRating: 2 out of 5

The Show started 25 mins after the hour...with the opening and middle acts going until 8:03 PM....Dave came on at 840....and the wait with the blasting music was unreal.....Dave didn't seem like he had any jokes actually prepared, and was going off the cuff.... Just disappointing....But, I still love the guy!!!

  • Dave is still the man!

by 2lokey on 6/15/12Robinson Center Music Hall - Little RockRating: 5 out of 5

Great show filled with new material, music, and he even stretched the show go movie time length. I drove 7 hrs to see his show and it was the best show ive ever seen!

  • Dave Chappelle Review

by asucolin on 6/15/12Robinson Center Music Hall - Little RockRating: 2 out of 5

Robinson was very hot. There were not enough cash bars as the lines were very long. Dave did not take the stage until 2 hours later. If there are warm up acts this needs to be stated on the tickets and website. The hecklers made it very unenjoyable too.

  • by squarebiz901 on 6/15/12The Orpheum Theatre Memphis - MemphisRating: 1 out of 5

I dont know why I was expecting the Dave Chappelle from the tv show but I was. Because Dave didnt have any written material the show was going to be bad anyway; however, the hecklers made it worse...almost unbearable.

  • Dave Chappelle was a hot mess

by djmiller on 6/15/12The Orpheum Theatre Memphis - MemphisRating: 1 out of 5

For whatever reason, Mr. Chappelle has lost his mojo. Being late is forgiveable if you produce. He did not produce and it appears had no material. He either took us for granted or, like I said earlier, he's lost his mojo. Prescott, the opening act, was off the chain funny. I love Dave. But, we deserved better.

  • Should have watched TV

by IronStrickland on 6/15/12The Orpheum Theatre Memphis - MemphisRating: 1 out of 5

It was more of an interview than a comedy routine. Dave had major ring rust. People heckled him the entire show. A lot of people got up and left. If you are expecting to see the Dave from the past you better get used to dissappointment. He 1 1/2 hours late to stage.

  • could have had a V8!

by Anonymous on 6/15/12The Orpheum Theatre - MemphisRating: 1 out of 5

Growing up on The Chappelle Show, I was SO excited for this event. Soon into the performance, I realized that the man on stage is NOT the Dave Chappelle I knew. Disppointed doesn't even begin to cover how I felt. The "show" was plain awful. People want to blame the crowd, but it was Dave's lack of control or conviction of his own work that led this performance straight down the toilet. Save your money or choose a different night out. This washed up hack is done. He can only parade around for so long before even the most admiring of fans sees he's only re-living his glory days for his own personal ego boost.

  • Chappelle, Yes! Audience, NO!!!!

by Ablewayne on 6/15/12The Orpheum Theatre Memphis - MemphisRating: 3 out of 5

I knew what to expect going in. Most of the audience didn't!!! True, he was late, but I've been to many shows where the headliner was fashionably late. I didn't like the fact that many people in the audience expected "The Chappelle Show" as opposed to Chappelle's stand-up. When he got the chance to tell jokes, they were funny as hell!!! The only problem is that those times were few and far between. If I ever see that loud, heckling guy in the balcony section, row A, we will definitely discuss a few things because there was no need for him to ruin the show for so many!!!! Contrary to what many say, Chappelle did not bomb. He was what I expected and I would definitely go again!

  • Pretty Good Show

by Dec84 on 6/14/12The Orpheum Theatre Memphis - MemphisRating: 4 out of 5

The show was great, but the audience kept interrupting the show. Other than that it was great!

  • Chappelle was terrible!!!!

by HumpDiggity on 6/14/12The Orpheum Theatre Memphis - MemphisRating: 1 out of 5

I was very disappointed with Dave Chappelle's comedy show. The best part about the entire show was Prescott and listening to a plethora of songs I had previously forgotten about thanks to DJ Devin Steele. Chappelle took forever to come out and he didn't have any material prepared. I left early after he spent about 15 minutes talking with the people in the front row about their occupation! I will never pay to see his show again!

  • Dave sucked

by Bubbd202 on 6/14/12The Orpheum Theatre Memphis - MemphisRating: 1 out of 5

Waited an hour and a half for Dave to come out. All he did for two hours was interact with hecklers! No material, no act, finally walked out. Thanks for wasting my money

  • Awful

by Anonymous on 6/14/12The Orpheum Theatre Memphis - MemphisRating: 1 out of 5

Dave was late and had no material - will always love dave chapelle but come on! Don't recommend going

  • Worse show ever!!!

by Ugobon on 6/14/12The Orpheum Theatre Memphis - MemphisRating: 1 out of 5

We were seated in section j orch and the end three seats, closest to the exit. We were unable to understand what was being said and it sounded muffled. We complained to the management. Sadly they agreed and stated that he used his own equipment. He was very late. I expected a comedy show and all he did was chat. I have funnier stories than he mentioned. I'd like a refund on my three tickets too! If money is not refunded then I'll think long and hard before attending other events there.

  • Chapelle no-Show

by bdoublec on 6/14/12The Orpheum Theatre Memphis - MemphisRating: 2 out of 5

Doors opened at 6. Opening act performed at 7:20 and finished around 7:45. Chapelle came on stage 8:30-9ish. We were expecting a similar delivery to Chappelle show, but received a very scattered, unprepared feeling. The crowd interaction was funny at times, but focused on Dave's arms which were featured by his tank top. Bottom line, not even close to what you would expect. Boo.

  • Dave Chappelle was TERRIBLE

by ssalaw on 6/14/12The Orpheum Theatre Memphis - MemphisRating: 1 out of 5

I went to the show with the highest hopes. I have never been so disappointed. Nobody can show up on stage without a plan and wing it. Not funny at all

  • Waste of Money

by Anonymous on 6/14/12The Orpheum Theatre Memphis - MemphisRating: 1 out of 5

Extremely disappointed. Chappelle seemed unorganized and as if he did not care. There was no routine or prepared jokes and he spent most of the time mumbling random stories. Thre were multiple hecklers in the crowd which also contributed to the fact that Chappelle was unresponsive and not telling jokes. He refused to do anything from the "Chappelle Show" and reiterated multiple times how rich he was.
