About

The youngest son of Reggae legend Bob Marley, Damian "Jr. Gong" Marley garnered his own place in music history when he became the first ever Reggae artist to win a GRAMMY AWARD® outside of the Reggae category, taking home an award for Best Urban/Alternative performance for his title single, "Welcome To Jamrock."  The acclaimed 2005 breakthrough disc Welcome To Jamrock, also won a GRAMMY AWARD® for Best Reggae Album, whilst the New York Times named it "the best reggae song of the decade." Marley has been shaking up stages all over the world for the past few years, first in conjunction with his Distant Relatives project where he teams up with Nas and brother Stephen Marley, and then when he went on to partner with Skrillex for their groundbreaking track "Make It Bun Dem", which Rolling Stone called "a monster mash up of dubstep and dancehall." Which went on to sell over 500,000 copies in the United States alone. Following the track's success, the reggae superstar released his fourth studio album, Stony Hill, resulting in his third GRAMMY AWARD® for Best Reggae Album. Marley is also working with his brothers Stephen and Julian under their Ghetto Youths International Label, to discover, develop and sign gifted artists - applying their musical talent and vast experience to create new and different styles of music. Recently, Marley released his fifth studio album The Kalling in September of 2022, which went on to win Best Reggae Album at the 65th Annual GRAMMY AWARDS®.

Unfair and Honest Review of Damian Marley show

by MonaWrites on 10/23/17The Belasco Theater - Los Angeles

If you've ever listened to this man's lyrics you'd understand that it's not just feel good and dance music. He gives us the much-needed food for thought, leads us to stand up for what is good and melodic guidance to stand in our personal and righteous truths. Like Marvin Gaye who asked us "What's Going on?" and sang the woes of the "Troubled Man," ALL of Damian's song speaks to the greater parts of you and dares you to stand up in that. Yes, of course, he's gorgeous and of course, he sounds AMAZING, the production on this album is superior and he could EASILY be compared to some of the greatest rap lyrists and poets of our time, but it's also important music. Nail Pon Cross is a warning and Jamrock is the beloved ode to his home Jamaica, encouragement from songs like Road to Zion and the tease of being allowed to shampoo those beautiful locks from Beautiful are why he is special, a fine piece of mind and a pleasure to watch. Thank you, Damian and Belasco Theater for allowing me to double the pleasure!! A fan since 1992, my review is unfair because I think so highly of him and even after meeting him once, his kindness and aura surpasses what I've imagined...

    Mind Blown presentation and performance.

by DBonair on 10/23/17The Belasco Theater - Los Angeles

Stony Hill performance by Jr. Gong was spectacular, colorful, rythmic and mesmerizing with controversial and political imagery and lyrical undertones. Enjoyed every minute of the concert and the venue at the Belasco Theatre made it up close, personal, and unforgettable.

Damian Jr Gong Marley at HOB

by yuckamashe on 10/22/17House of Blues Anaheim - Anaheim

I love Damian Marley. His first album is amazing. I love Welcome to Jamrock too. He sounded great, looked hot and played at least 2 hours. My issue is that he only played 2 songs from the oldest album and 4 or 5 from Jamrock. He did way too many songs from the Nas album and too many covers of his dad. I love Bob but enough people cover him including the Wailers and most his sons. I saw Damian years ago and he played both my favorite albums. I like his mellow and prettier songs. This gig was very militant .

Start time delay w/ little notice +4 hour wait!

by DLhere on 10/21/17The Belasco Theater - Los Angeles

We were sent an email stating that the doors would be opening an hour later and unfortunately did not have access to our email until we were already en route to the show. So we had to wait one hour in line plus another hour before the opening act begin then another two hours before the headliner We were told the delay was due to the band going sightseeing in Los Angeles!!!!!! This is totally unacceptable. Especially for general admission where everyone is on their feet !!!!

    Damian Marley at the Belasco

by ninja77 on 10/21/17The Belasco Theater - Los Angeles

I was very excited to see him perform but I think perhaps it wasn’t as organized as it could have been? First, I received an email hours before the show informing me that the doors would now be opened at 8 pm instead of 7 as printed on the tickets. Ok, no biggie. We get into the venue around 8:45 and the opening act is in full swing. (Great opener btw) set ends probably around 9:30 and Damian didn’t get on stage until 11. Maybe it’s just me but I appreciate artists that take the stage in a timely, punctual and professional manner. Anyway, crowd is pretty pumped by the time he makes it on stage and he does a hell of a job performing and getting the crowd amped. His rendition of Exodus was awesome and one of the highlights of the night for me. Another highlight? The 2 dancers on stage. Man, those girls were so good and I enjoyed watching them do their thang. Overall, the show was very entertaining and lively but I just wish that he could have started his set earlier especially considering it was a Wednesday and some folks got to get up early the next day. First concert I’ve been to that made me feel old. Haha

    Never Fails

by Dstseven on 10/21/17The Belasco Theater - Los Angeles

One word… Incredible! I’ve seen him every single time he’s in Southern California and I promise he never ever ever fails. From beginning to end the energy was amazing! Totally worth the standing room only section which I never do. Glad I did it this time!

Damien Marley put on an excellent show. Crowd was diverse and everybody seemed to have a great time. Venue nice, security in place without being jerks about it. Would love to see him again in concert and would love to visit Harrah's again.

    The event was great but...

by AlohaOnOahu on 10/6/17Neal S Blaisdell Arena - Honolulu

I thought the event was great. The only problem was that there was too much Bass. The bass made it hard to hear the songs. I think the amount of bass wasn't checked to see what it sounded like from the lower audience seats. If I ever get to go to another concert I hope that will be fixed.
