D.C. United History

D.C. United dominated the early days of MLS. They appeared in the league’s first four championship games, winning three of them, and added a fourth title in 2004, all before the league was even a decade old. Between 1997 and 2007, the United earned four Supporters’ Shields for best regular season record and claimed three U.S. Open Cup trophies in 1996, 2008 and 2013.

The United’s alumni include a league-best four MVP recipients: Marco Etcheverry in 1998, Christian Gomez in 2006, Luciano Emilio in 2007 and Dwayne De Rosario in 2011. Emilio and Rosario became the first two of three D.C. Golden Boot recipients in 2007 and 2011, respectively, followed by Christian Benteke in 2024.

  • Too much time waiting in line

by sharkscin on 8/3/14RFK Stadium - WashingtonRating: 2 out of 5

The second half of the game itself was great - the first half horrible as I spent it in its entirety waiting in line to pick up my tickets. The fact that tickets HAD to be picked up in person at will-call was just plain antiquated. Move into the 21st century folks. Next time, allow us to print the tickets at home thus saving the headache. The next 20 minute wait to get our beer and hot dog, while quicker, still left me with a sour taste in the mouth. I will NOT be doing this deal again if its run the same way.

  • Line at Will Call was Awful!!!

    by Josh209876 on 8/2/14RFK Stadium - WashingtonRating: 1 out of 5

There was a deal for $20 tix including hot dog and beer. We waited in line at will call for the entire first half of the game. Once we got inside the lines were so long for beer and hot dogs that we either had to choose between waiting in line or watching the second half. We chose the game and the coupons were wasted. Would recommend going to a DC United game. If they offer a deal on tickets definitely print them at home. Otherwise you risk missing most of the game.

  • No Hotdogs

by Prestonnnnnnnnnnnn on 8/2/14RFK Stadium - WashingtonRating: 1 out of 5

I bought a ticket that came with a free beer and hotdog. But when I was in the concession lines, you were out of hot dogs.

  • DC United Game

by MWJKT on 8/2/14RFK Stadium - WashingtonRating: 2 out of 5

The game itself was great but they should not sell tickets in sections behind the flags. They raised the huge flags while the team was playing and we couldn't see the game! I'm all for team spirit but they should keep the flags down when the play is in front of them or we miss things like corner kicks and shots on goal.

    great time with me girlfriend..................................

  • $15 hotdog & beer deal is a ripoff

    by CharliedoNTgo2RFKNOMO on 8/2/14RFK Stadium - WashingtonRating: 1 out of 5

Tickets were required to be picked up at the will call window. The will call window was unable to handle the traffic. There were hundreds of people in line to get tickets past game time. Staff was beyond rude, more like deliberately disrespectful and completely incoherent. Once we got in, they were unable to keep up with the demand for beer and hot dogs. What was supposed to be a good deal turned out to be horrible rip off.

  • One Word DISASTER

by FormerDCUFan on 8/2/14RFK Stadium - WashingtonRating: 1 out of 5

Been a United fan from the beginning. Would like to have seen this match but couldn't get thru will-call until injury time at end of 1st half. Could have spent the 2nd half waiting to get beer and hot dog but settled for an over-priced funnel cake 'cause the line was shorter than at the other 3 or 4 available stands. Not the ideal meal (or even a snack) for a diabetic. DCU was totally unprepared for a modest sized crowd of ~16000. Seriously doubt they'll be able to handle 20000+ in a new stadium. If I were a DC taxpayer I would strongly oppose an "investment" in a stadium for United. This suburban fan won't likely waste my time and money at future DCU events.

  • Dc united and Toronto played amazingly!!!

    by Dreamyeyes7 on 8/2/14RFK Stadium - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

The game was intense there were moments of suspense, however, dc united knew it was a win already!! My seats couldn't be in a better spot. Lived it and loved it!! Go DC United!!!!!

  • by Muhab on 8/2/14RFK Stadium - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

Nice game. Seats are decent. Fun for all family members.

  • What was the deal with will call?

    by mz12345 on 8/2/14RFK Stadium - WashingtonRating: 1 out of 5

When we bought the tickets, the only option was to pick them up a will call (the site wouldn't let us print online). We got to the game just before it started, and waited about 30 minutes in line for will call! This made us miss most of the first half and was incredibly disappointing. Once we got in the game was fun, but just because of the disorganized ticket situation, I would probably not go to another game.

  • Game was awesome

by SandyBV on 8/2/14RFK Stadium - WashingtonRating: 2 out of 5

Wait time was to much for acquiring tickets. Event needed more staff, it was frustrating to wait in line almost the 1st half of game.

Best professional sport event I have ever gone to. I have been to football, baseball, basketball and this by far was the best experience. I hope DC united gets the new stadium!

  • Fantastic!!!

by Olegeezy on 7/23/14RFK Stadium - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

I went with my son Nate and it was simply fantastic he's a big soccer fan and our first time watching a live game together. The atmosphere was wild, crazy and very enthusiastic we couldn't of had a better time. GO UNITED!!!!! We're planning on attending a couple more games before the season ends. My son took video I'll ask him to post it.

  • Great prices and great game!

by EAnon on 7/23/14RFK Stadium - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

I paid $10 for the ticket + modelo package. The seats were in the 300 section, which made sense, but were still quite good for only $10. We had a decent view of the game despite being in the corner. The modelo beers were a great value (24oz cup) that I didn't expect from the promotion. Overall, if DC United have more of these promotions, I will be there every time!

  • D.C. United v Chivas AMAZING

by LondieBombs on 7/23/14RFK Stadium - WashingtonRating: 4 out of 5

HAD A GREAT TIME FOR MY SISTER'S BIRTHDAY. BEST FANS IN DC SPORTS, GREAT TEAM. RFK KIND OF SUCKS AS A STADIUM AND PARKING WENT UP TO $20 (was 10 last season) WHICH IS WAYY TOO EXPENSIVE. BUT THE FOOD OPTIONS ARE MICH BETTER THIS SEASON, AND WE HAD A FREE MODELO with our ticket purchase, having got the code from DC United's twitter page. I cant wait for the next home game.

  • OHHHHH DCU!!!

by jfelt on 7/23/14RFK Stadium - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

Always a pleasure to be there! Yes, we need a better stadium than RFK but if that's keeping you away, don't. Join a supporters section. Get there. Make some noise. No sporting experience comes close to comparing!

  • DC United

    by Mlkesmazda5 on 7/23/14RFK Stadium - WashingtonRating: 3 out of 5

We had a great time at the game. However $20 for parking is absolutely rediculous!!!

  • by Anonymous on 7/23/14RFK Stadium - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

It was an awesome experience. I enjoyed the game, and I hope to be back.

  • by Anonymous on 7/23/14RFK Stadium - WashingtonRating: 4 out of 5

Really enjoyed the game. Got access to Pre game warm ups on the field. Got a mini ball signed by Bobby Boswell since it was my birthday.

  • Great MLS experience!

by NCcrew on 7/23/14RFK Stadium - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

My 16 year old son convinced me to tag along with him and a boy from Italy here on an exchange. We were visiting DC to sightsee, and the DC United game was a last minute decision. We took the Metro to RFK Stadium and the entire experience was great. The fans are enthusiastic, the staff friendly and helpful, and the game was exciting. We were a little apprehensive about the metro ride back, but even at 10pm we felt safe and fairly comfortable. We definitely recommend!
