    ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!

by maeveel on 6/10/15Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

This was one of the best concerts I have ever been to. D'Angelo was BRINGING it. I danced almost the whole time and at times I felt like I was at a revival! He was FABULOUS and I can't wait to see him again!

    Absolute must-see

by powersofi on 6/10/15Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

Not much to say except this was an amazing show. No opener, and including breaks/encores the set was almost two and a half hours. The band is unbelievable, D'Angelo is in fine voice, plays guitar and keys and is transfixing throughout. Seamless transitions in and out of the longer, jammier pieces into the more familiar solo hits and singles, no bum notes or downtime. If you can see him within 100 miles of you in a club/theater environment, just go.

D'Angelo was god. His live how took a few pages out of Prince's and James Brown's books -- singer-as-bandleader, extended jams, outfit changes, and good times. And his final encore (Untitled, of course) was sublime -- maybe the best live performance I've ever seen. Dude knows how to put on a show.

    Don't miss this show!

    by MeandYou4ever on 6/10/15Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

If you saw the Voodoo tour, you already know how spectacular D is live. If this is your first time - your jaw will drop. I flew into town for this concert; I'm now plotting how I can do that again, somewhere, this summer. God, that man is brilliant and beautiful!

    D'Angelo killed it!

by Nyalycat on 6/10/15Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

Perhaps I am biased as I was chomping at the bit to see the "Black Messiah's" comeback concert, but he truly did not disappoint. The album itself was a welcome respite from terribly uninspired, and downright awful contemporary soul and r&b, and to see him bring even more life to this music in person, brought me soon much joy! D'Angelo is happy to be making music again and it showed with a truly energetic and inspired performance. The Fox theater could not have been a more fitting venue for the show he and The Vanguard put on. The show was low on set and "theatrics" and huge on sound, emotion, color and just plain old funk. This is what music is supposed to be!

    D'Angelo, Twenty Years Later

by Stiletta on 6/10/15Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

I first saw D'Angelo perform in 1995. I remember the show vividly. Twenty years later, I FINALLY had the opportunity to see him again and he and The Vanguard did not disappoint. The show was great from beginning to end, the band couldn't be any funkier, the background singers had voices like butter, and D'Angelo showed himself to be an even better performer than he was twenty years back. The vibe was amazing from beginning to end and the crowd couldn't help but scream for more. I felt tired at the end as if I'd been on stage. If you can cop yourself a ticket, make sure you do it and experience the wonder of D'Angelo and The Vanguard.

The best show I've ever seen. No hyperbole.

    by Jtizzle36 on 6/10/15Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

Sly meets Prince meets James Brown meets Al Green meets... No. It's just D'Angelo. Simply put, this can't be missed. Perfect.

    Great show

by Bearblear on 2/11/15Apollo Theater - New York

From the band to the venue (not too big but not too small) to D'angelo of course, the show was great. Mostly songs from Black Messiah but he threw in a few oldies which I loved. There were a few from the new album that he left off, but it's all good. It was a great show!

D'Angelo and the Vanguard were amazing!

by Anonymous on 2/10/15Apollo Theater - New York

I have been a fan of D'Angelo since his first album. Prior to the release of the Black Messiah I was searching for his music because I kept hearing that he was going to release something real soon. I was totally shocked to find that he had a release party in NY and learned that his new songs were available on iTunes. I've never made a purchase on iTunes but this was one album I couldn't miss! After hearing it I had to find out about upcoming tours and can't tell you how excited I was to learn that he would be at the Apollo. I was off on the day the presale started. I couldn't sleep all night hoping that I wouldn't miss the opportunity to buy a ticket. OMG! I made it through the portal; got my ticket; and let me tell you it was well worth the sleep I lost...lol One of the things I love about the Apollo is the intimacy D'Angelo was afforded with his audience. The audience were on their feet almost the entire time. He is truly an amazing artist! If anyone missed the show please try to catch him the next time he swings back around. If given another opportunity to see him perform live I wouldn't hesitate to purchase a ticket again.

    D'Angelo at the Apollo

by punchdrunknyc on 2/10/15Apollo Theater - New York

"D’Angelo and Vanguard straight up rocked the house for more than two hours, journeying through his new recording and selections from his neo-soul debut, Brown Sugar (1995), and the Y2K masterpiece Voodoo. Ever since he won the Amateur Night at the Apollo competition in 1991 at age 16, he has shown a keen appreciation of black musical history. So for this, his first appearance at the historic venue as a leader, he brought his D’A game. At 8:30, with stage dark, a lone figure tipped out from stage right, stopping dead center. As he began singing “Prayer” from Black Messiah, the lights came up slowly, the identity of the figure clad in black, with hat cocked to one side, mysterious and unclear, but the voice unmistakable. By the time his band of three backup singers—including the vivacious vocalist Kendra Foster—and instrumental partners on keyboard, drums, two guitars and electric bass came to the stage, they were ready to rock—literally." - Written by Greg Thomas

    D'Angelo was AMAZING!

by Anonymous on 2/10/15Apollo Theater - New York

D'Angelo was all of what is lovable about him in his fullest Sankofic swag. He knows and honors what preceded and we heard the legacies of Funkadelic and James Brown and Marvin Gaye and Al Green living through him even as I never found myself on a nostalgia trip. The music and the musicians and the experience of communion all present shared, were all super present for me. I had a deeply embodied and tangible experience of the music.

    D'Angelo was beyond amazing

by Mommy329 on 2/10/15Apollo Theater - New York

I was patient and lucky enough to be front row so it felt very personal. I can't even describe how I felt because I'm still feeling the same way until now. It was soul feeding, energetic, fun. D'Angelo's voice actually sounds better in person. I've been in love with his music for so long this will be instilled into my mind, heart and soul forever. Every part of the show was great. The band was unforgettable, the background singers did an awesome job. There are no words that can completely describe the feeling you had when you left the show. You just had to be there

    Legendary Performance

by ElleBeeOne on 2/10/15Apollo Theater - New York

As soon as the lights dimmed we all stood up and remained standing until he left the stage after the last encore - nearly 3 hours later, lol. D'Angelo performed masterfully. His command of the stage is to be applauded! I feel like I experienced a spiritual revival. I'm so glad he gave us this music. I'm so glad he's healthy, and I'm so glad he's back!! He slayed us all so lovely Saturday night and left us so speechless that we needed a full night’s sleep to articulate what we witnessed. I'm still in the afterglow. D'Angelo is one of the special few who have that extra special gift. When he performs like he did on Saturday he gives his soul and invites you in to it, and I take that very seriously because it takes great courage to do that. I respect his gift and I'm very grateful for him. I wish him nothing but the very best of health, wealth and happiness! He is such a gracious artist who reaches out for all of the nearby hands of his fans. It was my pleasure to stand for him.
