About

Cyndi Lauper is a pop singer and activist from Queens, New York. Upon the release of her 1983 debut album, She’s So Unusual, Lauper became a pop sensation, thanks to the success of Top 5 singles including “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun,” “Time After Time,” “She Bop” and “All Through the Night.” Lauper also won Best New Artist at the 1985 Grammys. Her second and third albums, True Colors (1986) and A Night to Remember (1989), added more hit singles like “True Colors” and “I Drove All Night” to her oeuvre and by the end the decade, Lauper had become synonymous with the ’80s new wave movement and synthpop sound. In addition to her twelve solo albums, Lauper also wrote the music and lyrics for the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical Kinky Boots, for which she became the first solo woman to ever win the Tony for Best Original Score. In the fall of 2024, the singer embarked on her Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Farewell Tour in conjunction with her documentary film LET THE CANARY SING.

  • Amazing banter between audience and Cyndi

The event was purely amazing. Cyndi and Rosie both interacted with the audience several times. It was a high energy show!

  • Excellent Show

by Taylor95 on 8/6/09St. George Theatre - Staten IslandRating: 5 out of 5

They were excellent. Rosie was as funny as ever although her topics have moved from the entertainment world to her children and getting older...at 41 I can really relate to the getting older stuff...she was just hysterical. Cyndi is undeniably one of the most underrated voices and performers. She's 56 years old and she was dancing around on that stage like she was 26. She is just so funny, energetic and exciting to watch. Her voice was in great form and she treated us to two accapella shorts...Fearless and Sally's Pigeons...which were really good. She did all the expected hits and then tossed in a couple of surprises...."Sing It" was probably the best...with the band really getting into it and "Iko Iko" was great too. She brought the house down with "Girls" and did a really good version of "True Colors" in which both her and Rosie were teary. All in all a great show...I've seen her a bunch of times and I've NEVER been disappointed. The only negative of last night was that it was a much older crowd (40-60's mostly) so they were mostly sitting down as opposed to on thier feet and dancing.

  • Girls Night Out! Cyndi & Rosie

by fanorama on 8/6/09St. George Theatre - Staten IslandRating: 5 out of 5

This performance was nothing less than amazing! Cyndi is better than ever. Talk about getting your money's worth. What stamina. I swear Cyndi's voice only gets better every year. And Rosie was hilarious, as always. The best part is the energy and friendship between the two on stage. You feel like your just hanging out with them, and there happens to be a backup band. Who doesn't love the endearing tangential story telling, to me that is the best part of the show, otherwise you might as well just listen on itunes! Thanks Ladies for a great evening!

  • Cyndi/Rosie

by Moe517 on 8/6/09St. George Theatre - Staten IslandRating: 4 out of 5

Rosie wasn't really funny. All the menopause talk is boring after a while. Cyndi was off the hook!!!! Amazing! Listening and watching her took me back to the 80's when I would dress like her and sing her songs in the mirror. She still has it after all these years!!!

  • Cindi and Rosie rocked my socks

  • A Great Pair!

by LG81 on 8/6/09St. George Theatre - Staten IslandRating: 5 out of 5

Rosie began the night with about 45 minutes of stand-up. She was hysterical! Cyndi came on and sang for the rest of the night, with Rosie singing back-up and even playing the drums for a few songs. Cyndi has incredible energy - she jumped off the stage and danced/sang her way through the audience! She did all of her hits! Both Rosie and Cyndi were so personable and real -- definitely not a diva show -- they even let us take pictures! - it was a great show!

  • Rosie and Cyndi play well together!

by PatPatty on 8/3/09The Avalon Ballroom Theatre At Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort - Niagara FallsRating: 5 out of 5

Rosie was funny, authentic and clearly having a ball with Cyndi, love how she sang back-up and wailed on the drums. Cyndi was her usual adorable, quirky, high-energy, amazing self. Everyone left the theater feeling upbeat and happy and well-entertained. They rocked!

Rosie and Cyndi put together a fun, entertaining show. They both showcased their talents well and blended with witty repartee which made you feel like there were truly enjoying themselves. Great music, good laughs, good times!

  • Cyndi & Rosie's show was great entertainment!

by jo29 on 8/2/09Turning Stone Resort & Casino Showroom - VeronaRating: 5 out of 5

Rosie was a riot and playfully joked with Cyndi all thru the show. Cyndi's music was sooo entertaining. Her story telling is always playful. The mix of the comediane and the musician sure complemented each other to a tee!~

  • too much rosie

by bashful500 on 8/2/09The Avalon Ballroom Theatre At Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort - Niagara FallsRating: 2 out of 5

my main problem with this show in general was it became rosie's event. i came to here cyndi lauper sing not rosie talk . i will be looking for another cyndi lauper event to be able to really hear her sing more of her songs. rosie 's comedy act was ok but she should have left the stage after and not took the spotlight of the headliner.

  • Cyndi Lauper and Rosie O'Donnell

by Ran13 on 8/2/09Turning Stone Resort & Casino Showroom - VeronaRating: 5 out of 5

What a treat we were privledged to witness as two powerhouses: Cyndi Lauper and Rosie O'Donnell shared the stage in a show entitled "Girls Night Out." We were able to catch this show at the Turning Stone Casino, in Verona, NY. With eleven albums released, Grammy-winner, Ms. Lauper had plenty of material to use--Ms. O'Donnell as a mother and media personality also found more than enough material to work with. The show started with Rosie O'Donnell doing a stand-up comedy routine. She's good--with stories and jokes about her kids, menapause, her media feuds with Donald Trump and Elizabeth Hasselbeck, and her admiration for Cyndi Lauper. The previous night their show had been in Niagara Falls--she laughed--"the booking agent called me and said that we were going to do two nights in Niagara Falls and then Vernon, NY. I've lived in New York all my life and didn't know there were places where I could go to gamble. I'm buying a house in Vernon!" She shared with us a few of the pitfalls of public notoriety. Apparently there had been an incident with her daughter on the Maid of the Mist boat ride in Niagara Falls which made people take notice! There wasn't much that was off the table--there were some hysterical barbs at "The Donald." She told us about memorizing commercials--damn, she did know the entire "Primatene Mist" commercial by heart. She even got into having "the Talk" with one of her daughters--and the monthly visits from Aunt Flow. There were a lot of belly laughs during her time on stage--I enjoyed her a lot. Rosie introduced Cyndi Lauper to the audience. She stayed on stage, singing backup during the first five songs. They had some incredibly funny exchanges together--being in a casino, she quipped "Cyndi, I lost $50 in the machines tonight...unfortunately it was the candy machine." Cyndi, with a beautiful main of blonde hair launched into two hours of pure delight. There were the hits, like "She Bop," "Change of Heart," "Time After Time," "Money Changes Everything" and "Drove All Night"--it was a high energy show with a number of precious moments. Her four piece band and backup singer did a wonderful job. She walked into the audience a number of times--dancing on a few table tops, she played musical instruments--including a guitar and a dulcimer, and she shared a number of hysterical stories with us. With her thick Queens accent, she talked about "The Gays" and what celebrities she had heard were cross-dressers, her marriage of 12 years, going Catholic school and some of her travels--including a stay in Stockholm. Ms. Lauper gave everyone in the room--their money's worth. My favorite songs of the evening were "All Through The Night" and a cover of Joni Mitchell's "Carey." My other favorites came in the encore--after fourteen songs, she still came out and did an encore of five more songs. Rosie joined her again on stage, for the encore--singing backup and this time playing the drums as well. The gems that I absolutely loved in the encore included, "Who Let in the Rain" (a song I had never heard before), "At Last" (which she sang for a couple that were celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary) and her most famous song "Girls Just Want to Have Fun." It was impossible to leave this show without a smile on one's face. The show lasted two and a half hours--as Rosie commented to Cyndi, near the end of the show: "There's a guy named Guido over there that's saying, get these F**king people out of here and into the casino!!" It definately was a girl's night out--and we all loved every minute of it.

  • tsc concert

by corwood on 8/2/09Turning Stone Resort & Casino Showroom - VeronaRating: 5 out of 5

Cyndi and Rosie were the best. It was more like a coffee house than performance. Cyndi is 56 years old and still amazing! The venue needed to place more space between tables in the orchestra area as even Cyndi had a difficult time walking out in the audience.

  • Rosie & Lauper great team

by Murph48 on 8/1/09The Avalon Ballroom Theatre At Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort - Niagara FallsRating: 5 out of 5

I was at the Rosie O'Donnell/Cyndi Lauper concert in Niagara Falls Ontario last night. Rosie came out and instantly had the crowd laughing. She talked about her experiences in Niagara Falls which were hilarious. At the end of her set she introduced Cyndi who came out immediately - no break. As the band set up Cyndi and Rosie bantered and it was great because you felt their friendship and it was like listening in on two great friends who happen to be famous. Rosie stayed out for part of Cyndi's set singing backup before retiring to the back. Cyndi was amazing and came out into the crowd a few times mixing with the audience. At the end of the night Rosie came back out and joined Cyndi by playing drums (which she is very good at). The show lasted 2 1/2 hours with no intermission. Highly recommended!

  • Girls Just Wanted to Have Fun

by Rabi on 7/31/09The Avalon Ballroom Theatre At Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort - Niagara FallsRating: 4 out of 5

For my daughter's 29th birthday, I surprised her with tickets to the first day of this tour, kicking off at the Avalon Theatre at the Fallsview Casino in Niagara Falls, Ontario. Rosie was buttering us up with her sardonic wit - however a little too much meet-n-greet spilled over onto the stage with unplanned and sparingly funny photo-ops with audience members. We were on the edge of our seats as she finally announced the perky siren to the stage when a crack in the dam creeped its way on the scene. The back up vocals, the lead guitar, the drums and keyboard were amped to perfection, but where was Cyndi? Her voice, her guitar: silence by Ursula's slippery eels. Our little mermaid couldn't even hear herself in her earpiece. And she was miffed. She shouldered her disdain for the situation until nearly halfway through the concert, frequently bending over to adjust monitor levels and stopping occasionally mid-lyric, searching for solutions. Our sweet songbird tried so hard to juice up the energy throughout, flitting across the stage and into the audience, but she was merely the little Dutchboy's finger in the dike. The consummate artist prevailed in pitch and integrity, and we admired her efforts, but we missed her. Her personality, her tenderness and her honesty were buried right in the beginning, and we watched as she struggled for freedom. In short, it's a good lineup and she's amazing, but we should have chosen the second day of the tour to offer our hearts to our favorite performer, because all we really got was her back.

  • Cyndi & Rosie - amazing!

by karen23 on 7/31/09The Avalon Ballroom Theatre At Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort - Niagara FallsRating: 5 out of 5

Although a couple of glitches with technical stuff at the beginning - Cyndi has never let me down! She came back with a roar & the show was absolutely fantastic! Cyndi is such a great performer/singer/etc. Rosie started the show & was really funny - she is a great stand up comic! Her drum skills are pretty darn good too!!!!

  • Boy was Cindy pissed!!!

by lajs on 7/31/09The Avalon Ballroom Theatre At Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort - Niagara FallsRating: 3 out of 5

For a good part of the concert, we felt like we were at a local club watching open mic nite instead of being at a "professional, world-class" venue. Technical problems existed with much of the sound equipment for at least 50% of Cindy's performance -- which you really don't expect when you're paying top dollar to see a professional artist perform! Not sure if the problems were related to her own equipment/crew or those of the venue where she performed, Fallsview Casino in Niagara Falls, but they did affect our overall experience. I have to give props to Lauper because she wouldn't let up and continued to "fine-tune" the sound, but you could tell that it began to take a toll on her as well. Also, she appeared to be tired at various points during the concert - even forgetting the lyrics to one of her songs... Rosie O'Donnell, who opened for Lauper, did not experience any technical problems, since she was only dealing with her own mic. The first 2/3 of her performance was entertaining and amusing, but once she allowed one fan to "interact" with her, it seemed like the rest of the show went downhill as she digressed with Q&A and picture taking with a few members of the audience.
