About

Cyndi Lauper is a pop singer and activist from Queens, New York. Upon the release of her 1983 debut album, She’s So Unusual, Lauper became a pop sensation, thanks to the success of Top 5 singles including “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun,” “Time After Time,” “She Bop” and “All Through the Night.” Lauper also won Best New Artist at the 1985 Grammys. Her second and third albums, True Colors (1986) and A Night to Remember (1989), added more hit singles like “True Colors” and “I Drove All Night” to her oeuvre and by the end the decade, Lauper had become synonymous with the ’80s new wave movement and synthpop sound. In addition to her twelve solo albums, Lauper also wrote the music and lyrics for the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical Kinky Boots, for which she became the first solo woman to ever win the Tony for Best Original Score. In the fall of 2024, the singer embarked on her Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Farewell Tour in conjunction with her documentary film LET THE CANARY SING.

  • Girls just wanted to have fun and WE DID!!!

by Sanjul on 8/10/09St. George Theatre - Staten IslandRating: 5 out of 5

This show was amazing! Rosie was as funny and cutting as ever, and also looked great in her new atire (and her talent on the drums)! Cyndi entertained to our hearts' delight! I haven't had such a good time at a performance in years. I thank them both for sharing their talent and their hearts! Keep the showing going..........it was a blast!!!

  • Cindy still has it!!

Great time! She sounds as good as she did when I saw her 20 years ago! House of Blues was a great venue.

  • Cyndi delivers again.

by LeashF on 8/9/09House of Blues Atlantic City - Atlantic CityRating: 5 out of 5

The House of Blues is a great venue. I've seen Cyndi live 14 times and this is one of my favorite venues thus far. For the first half of the show, Rosie enertained us with some great stand up. If you saw the True Colors tour in 2008 and were disappointed by her performance, don't fret. She stepped it up this year and delivered. Cyndi came out and performed a different (and longer) set list than usual - including songs like Carey by Joni Mitchell, Anna Blue, Sally's Pigeons, Can't Blame Me, Hole In My Heart, etc. She looked and sounded better than ever (and I wonder how she does it because every show gets better, and every show seems like it could only be the best). Rosie sang backup for a few songs and played drums on Girls Just Wanna Have Fun. The night was truly a "Girls Night Out." If you want a night filled with dancing, laughs and some of the better Cyndi tunes (instead of just the "hits") definitely venture out to this tour.

  • Cyndi Lauper & Rosie O'Donnell Awesome Together!

by GloriaFan1 on 8/9/09House of Blues Atlantic City - Atlantic CityRating: 5 out of 5

I saw the show Friday night at the House of Blues in Atlantic City, NJ. Rosie's was just hilarious. Watching her then transform into a back-up singer then drummer was awesome and her banter back and forth with Cyndi during the show was amusing and playful. Their comradeship really showed when they were together on the stage. They just truly seem to have a lot of fun together. Cyndi was just on fire! She whisked around the stage effortlessly putting on one heck of a show. She sang just about everything you could think of from Time After Time to Into The Nightlife. Cyndi also took a request from someone in the audience, once she made sure the band could play it. The show lasted about 3 hours, which looking back on it didn't seem that long because everyone was having such a blast that the time flew. If I had the chance to do it all over again I would so in a heartbeat! It was everything from a thumping dance party to a lighter in the air power ballad night, and I wouldn't have changed a thing.

  • cyndi & rosie delivered

by ddl827 on 8/9/09House of Blues Atlantic City - Atlantic CityRating: 4 out of 5

When I got an email alert for this show I know it would be fun and I was correct. The show opened with Rosie doing some stand-up that was fresh and fun. She was interactive with the audience and respectful of the mix in the audience. She was the perfect lead into the musical part of the show. Cyndi, she never ages. She is as much fun in 2009 as she was in the 80's. She posesses an ageless appeal. I love her music, but I love what she stands for. She is not the 20 year old girl with crazy hair and clothes. She has identified a strong set of core values and lives by them. She truly "Walks the Talk". Cyndi & Rosie...two great people that brings us fun.

  • Girls Night out Rocked!!

by hepme on 8/9/09House of Blues Atlantic City - Atlantic CityRating: 4 out of 5

The show was great. Cyndi is a class act. Her band is excellant. Rosie was funny and multi-talented on drums and back up vocals. I could have done with out showcasing Cydi's son.

  • Cyndi Lauper and Rosie O'Donnell were fabulous!

by Joysea on 8/9/09House of Blues Atlantic City - Atlantic CityRating: 5 out of 5

Rosie was very funny...loved her sharing her menopausal moments. Cyndi was unbelievably energetic and full voiced. A totally fun filled evening. It was like going to a party with your best friends.

  • Cyndi and Rosie

by enso on 8/8/09House of Blues Atlantic City - Atlantic CityRating: 4 out of 5

I always thought Rosie was funny, and she is, this was the first time I saw a comic with notes onstage. That really doesn't matter though, Rosie is funny. Was cool to see her sing backup for Cyndi and play drums too. Cyndi's set was real good, energetic, and the band was real good also. My wife and I both enjoyed the show and would not hesitate to see either Cyndi or Rosie again.

  • Rosie and Cyndi

by 08Tacoma on 8/8/09House of Blues Atlantic City - Atlantic CityRating: 3 out of 5

The show wasn't bad. Rosie had a good stand up routine. Cyndi played a lot of great songs and showed high energy. Can't say I cared for the acoustics of House of Blues. It was very difficult to understand some of the things being said if you were up in the balcony level. Unfortunately, I had 3 or 4 young women behind me insisting on talking throughout the show and constantly using their cell phones to update their friends on the show. Security should have been walking around to prevent this. They never even mentioned at the begininning of the show to turn cell phones off.

  • Absolutely devine!

I felt like I was a part of the show, the interaction between the performers and the audience was warm and fun, just one big happy family reunion! Both Cyndi and Rosie are people persons and it shows!

  • Great Concert

by Boworks on 8/8/09House of Blues Atlantic City - Atlantic CityRating: 5 out of 5

The Concert was fabulous! The venue was the best I've ever been to, it's impossible to have a bad seat! Cyndi was fantastic! She sang for almost 2 hours straight and has an incredible voice.

  • Girls Night Out Was Just Ehh...

by brendrek on 8/8/09House of Blues Atlantic City - Atlantic CityRating: 3 out of 5

This show was just Ehh...The major problems were, the show started too late and ran too long. The doors were late opening, and Rosie was a little late coming on. I can't believe I'm going to say this, but Cyndi should have cut down her set a little to compensate. Rosie was good, she made jokes about having to see Trumps name all over the place. She talked about her skin picking OCD, and watching YouTube video's of people squeezing pimples. Her routine was a mix of things, about her life, fighting with her kids, and going through menopause. She wasn't great, fall out of your seat funny though. Then Cyndi came out and Rosie sang back up and played the drums. The monologues between songs were all over the place. I was ready for it to be over by Money, but then she brings her son Declyn and his friend on stage for the finale. It was sweet but a little too awkward at the same time. I just wasn't feeling this show.

  • Great venue and Show

by BobACNJ on 8/8/09House of Blues Atlantic City - Atlantic CityRating: 4 out of 5

Rosie was really great and I liked how they interacted. Cyndi was awesome. Liked the venue the House of Blues is an intimate environment. One suggestion to Cyndi is the people come to see you not your son and his friend. One song with him would have been appropriate maybe two, the rest was a distraction from you, who we loved!

  • Lauper & O'Donnell-the Odd Couple

by Sheri39 on 8/8/09House of Blues Atlantic City - Atlantic CityRating: 4 out of 5

Cyndia Lauper was terrific one of the few artist who sounds as good in person as on the radio. Rosie O'Donnell was very funny and down to earth. A little to much talking but otherwise a great show.

  • very interactive

by Odie27 on 8/8/09House of Blues Atlantic City - Atlantic CityRating: 5 out of 5

Cyndi was extremely interactive and friendly with the audience. Her voice sounded great and you can tell she was having a great time. Rosie was very funny and did pretty good on the drums and back up singing. The concert was laid back so you can walk up to the stage and cyndi actually even walked off her stage to go in to the crowd. Great concert alot of fun and highly recommended

  • AWESOME!!!!

by fraujules on 8/8/09House of Blues Atlantic City - Atlantic CityRating: 5 out of 5

We were vacationing in Atlantic City celebrating my friend's 50th birthday. I purchased three tickets to this show as a "girl's night out". We each brought 5 non-perishable food items for the New Jersey Food Bank. My friend was chosen in a raffle to meet Cyndi Lauper and Rosie O'Donnell. All three of us went backstage and participated in a photo op. It was AWESOME!!! They are both really nice people. Rosie was hilarious and Cyndi rocked the house. A great time was had by all. GO SEE THIS SHOW AND GIVE BACK TO YOUR COMMUNITY!!! There is no reason why anyone should go hungry in this country.

  • Cyndi and Rosie rocked the house!

by little4ever1 on 8/8/09House of Blues Atlantic City - Atlantic CityRating: 5 out of 5

Cyndi has the energy of a preformer half her age!! She embraced each member of the audience with warmth and a smile. Rosie was an enjoyable multi talented preformer with comedy, singing, and playing the drums.

  • Poor acoustics!

by PatManBB on 8/8/09House of Blues Atlantic City - Atlantic CityRating: 2 out of 5

Cyndi played many (later?) songs of which I had never heard & I could not understand a word. At 11:00 or so I lost interest & gave up waiting for "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun."

  • Cyndi was outstanding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by Tweet40 on 8/6/09St. George Theatre - Staten IslandRating: 5 out of 5

I've seen Cyndi perform before, this concert was outstanding. She gets better with age. I would go see here again in a heart beat.
