Let me preface this review by saying that I have been a huge fan of Craig Robinson's work on "The Office," "Knocked Up," "Hot Tub Time Machine," etc. I'd never seen him live and my buddy and I were very excited about this show. Knowing his musical background, I expected there'd be some time with him singing at the keyboard, perhaps mixed in with some stand up material at the mic or storytelling while sitting at the keyboard.
Boy was I disappointed! The ENTIRE show is one long sing along with him playing/singing songs and asking the audience to participate. Him working the line "Take your panties off" into every song was funny the first few times but soon became tedious. Sorry, Craig, I didn't pay $40+ to help you with the performance. I am expecting you to entertain me or at least engage me in some way with jokes, funny stories, anything that remotely resembles comedy. It seemed like at times he was on auto pilot , including a keyboard rendition of the National Anthem in its entirety.
If Craig Robinson was hosting/DJing at a party I would have been thrilled with the evening. However, as a performer at a comedy club that I was paying good money to see I was not impressed with him at all. I'm still a huge fan of his movies and will check out his new TV show this fall. But paying to see Craig Robinson perform in person? Never again.
