UNDERWORLD

The legendary electronic group behind landmark release ‘dubnobasswithmyheadman’ and the equally game changing 'Born Slippy (Nuxx)' are back for their first Australian performance in seven years.

Embraced by 90s’ indie fans and dance music lovers alike, Karl Hyde and Rick Smith, the duo responsible for bridging the gap between techno and more traditional electronic bands like New Order and Depeche Mode, are now set to bring their shuddering bass and electrifying visuals to the State Theatre for the first time.

Off the back of their Grammy-nominated release ‘Barbara Barbara, we face a shining future’ along with their peak-time ‘Born Slippy (Nuxx)’ anthem revived this year for the Trainspotting sequel, prepare for a journey through two decades of genre-breaking British music. Prepare to stand up and dance to the euphoric beat of Underworld.

★★★★ 'Electrifying' – the Guardian

'More intoxicating than ever... A euphoric rush of their most epic tunes' – The Telegraph UK

★★★★ 'On my list of things to do before I die' – Resident Advisor

'The masters of electronic music' – Sydney Morning Herald

Seeing Underworld live is something beyond words. I was super excited to see them at Terminal 5 since its been years since they were in New York and they totally lived up to how I remembered them. They are just so energetic and vibrant and that totally translates to the crowd. They played classics, a bunch of new songs (from their new album which is amazing) and some reworks that were very cool. I would LOVE to see them again and again.

    Bloody perfect

    by sammyj101 on 4/26/16Terminal 5 - New York

This show was a dream come true for me. Underworld never tours in the US and I took a bus from Philly just to catch this one east coast date. The crowd was super into it and Underworld were totally on point. Perfect mix of new material, crowd favorites, and a couple obscure numbers (8-ball? Rowla?). Of course, they closed big with Rez/Cowgirl and Born Slippy and it was a frigging catharsis. And the Dirty Epic remix was tremendous. I couldn't have been more pleased. Wish they'd had a merch table, because I would have bought everything!

    A sight to see

    by milkman84 on 4/24/16Terminal 5 - New York

I've seen Underworld throughout the years about 7 or 8 times, since the Dubnobasswithmyheadman days, in New York, San Francisco, Tokyo, and Los Angeles. I can say they don't sound like they've aged a day, and in fact actually sound more relevant than ever. Not as easy task when their original fanbase are starting to gray and the new sound of techno attracting young fans via dubstep variants. Despite this, the band soldiers on doing what they do best, which is weaving a diverse array of synthetic sounds and beats, only this time with fewer collaborators, more warmth, and an album full of the lessons absorbed collaborating with each other on grandiose events like the London Olympics, the Frankenstein theatrical soundtrack, and a couple of albums with sonic auteur Brian Eno. Result: One of their finest albums in their discography, and a concert sprinkled with the best of the album, which sound totally in-step with their greatest hits. On this tour, Underworld also played little-heard songs like Eight Ball and Dirty Club in the show, to many fans' great delight. At Coachella or Terminal 5, they sound equally at home.

    Short but Sweet

by Anonymous on 4/23/16Terminal 5 - New York

Great set of old and new music. High energy performance while it lasted. The set was only about 1.5 hours with no encore. Bit disappointed by that... Underworld, on at 9:30 off at 11 doesn't seem right. Crowd was less enthusiastic than I was. I felt like the place was full of people who remembered liking the group in college but forgot how to dance and have fun.
