The show was great. Too bad we couldn't appreciate it entirely due to poor view from our seats. Stage is too low and couldn't see.
The dancers were athletic and energetic. It was interesting to see so many body types and variations on the delivery of the choreography, although some of the lack of unison was distracting. The soloist stole focus from the company in some off-putting moments - but that may have been more to do with the costuming than anything else. The first and third acts were riveting, the second was forgettable.
I lived in Ohio since only a year and I never had the chance before to see a contemporary ballet there. In France, I usually went to see ballet performances with my dance club. This night, I was really impressed by the energy of the dancers, and their multi cultural background justified well the diversity of the movements. From gospels and Bach music to U2 concert, the adaptation from one style to another tell us that complexity sometimes means simple unity of the diversity.
The dancers were very impressive. Though I enjoy contemporary dance, there were times that I didn't feel it really synched with the medley of U2 songs. Also, some of the other music got to be a bit monotonous.
The dancers were amazing! Brilliant technique and captivating emotional connection to the audience. Choreography was outstanding.
I have wanted to see Complexions CB for a very long time, and they did not disappoint. The dancers were incredible, the choreography even better. The combination was unforgettable. I recommend this to anyone and everyone.
Restorative and jubilant, frenetic and joyful; and that's just the first act, "Mercy"! Complex and rich, Mercy is thirty minutes of non-stop movements: lifting, strutting, leaping and surrendering all in the name of compassion and forgiveness. Mercy will leave you breathless even as you ask somebody to "Save a Seat for Me." The aptly titled second act, "Hissy Fits" is antsy and anxious. With pure sensuality, the coupled dancers interpret the pleasures and throes of any relationship. Playfulness, happiness, rejection, scorn, sexiness, love and commitment are all present (plus one confirmed bachelor). The perfect ending to the performance is "Rise". Act III will bring you to your feet to celebrate the beauty you can find during life's transitional periods that may be fraught with fear, or perhaps gracefully filled with exuberance and joy. Choreographer Dwight Rhoden shows lightening flash brilliance with all dance forms with a dancers reach and a knowledge of the human body to interpret his vision. His ideas are textured and taut. The music selections lift the vision to an even higher plane. Thank you for sharing.
Every one of the dancers were amazing. They moved their bodies in amazing and interesting ways. Would love to see them again.
I was pleased that this company was in San Antonio. I drove from Houston to see them. To me, the program was challenging for both the audience and the dancers. As an audience member it made me think as I interpreted the pieces. The dancers appeared to enjoy the work and to provide for a captivating performance.
Incredible mastery of body mingled with artistic vision...cant ask for more than that. Truly inspirational.
This was truly an unforgettable performance from the lighting to the dancers themselves. A New York caliber production was brought here to San Antonio, it was that good!
