What an amazing show! Great sears, great entertainment in a historic venue
I have been to the Chevalier twice this summer. The Chevalier is a terrible theater. It is so poorly air conditioned that I left the CBB performance early because I was sweating bullets and falling asleep because of the heat. The balcony is at so shallow a pitch that you have to strain to see over anyone's head down to the stage. The bars are understaffed. You're made to wait in a line extending around the block pre-show, and at a previous performance I saw this summer (How Did This Get Made) they started the show when most people were still waiting in the line outside the venue. The location is wildly inconvenient. There is no good way to get to Medford Square. The traffic/parking is awful, affecting both car travel and public transit b/c only buses go out there. count on spending a lot of extra money on ride share services. I won't be back.
The show itself (Comedy Bang! Bang!) gets 5 stars from me. It was absolutely fantastic. That being said, this "venue" is suspect at best. It's more like a quaint school auditorium, or a small town's playhouse that's used for community theater. The biggest offender of this venue was that there was no air conditioning. In late August. In New England. I'm not sure if they have air conditioning, and it just wasn't working, or if there isn't any air conditioning in that building. Either way, it desperately needs it. When I first sat down in my cramped wooden seat (Balcony section), after walking up several flights of stairs, i felt like I could not catch my breath because of how hot it was. After the bar lines died down, I got a couple of beers for my wife and myself. The beer helped cool us down a bit, but paying $18 for two 12 oz. beers didn't really improve my opinion of the venue. Luckily, as I said, the show was truly great. It definitely helped distract me from the sweat that was cascading down my body over the course of the next 90 minutes. The Chevalier is a bad venue.
Always love seeing Comedy Bang Bang. More shows recently have been at this theater and it looks like a high school auditorium from the 80s. It could use a lot of renovating. I felt bad on behalf of the performers that this is a new perception of theaters outside of Boston.
Scott, Paul, Lauren and the special guest brought great energy and laughs. Great show for listeners and non-listeners alike. And I promise, seeing their style of comedy in person brings it to a whole new level!
On a hot and humid night, the venue was sweltering. The performers were awesome, as expected. But the Chevalier might want to consider upgrades to the building once in a while.
This venue is a mess. First, the 2 bars are a mob, impossible to navigate. No lines, just a mass of bodies. It's like Mike's Pastry at its busiest. Second, where is the AC? It wasn't even that hot of a day, yet the entire show I was drenched in sweat (comments on the performers IG photos confirm I'm not alone in this). I'm writing this review in hopes that Chevalier might see some customer feedback and get it together. I've been to other shows here, same crappy venue experience. Comedy Bang Bang was hilarious. Loved it! Witnessed the birth of a new Lapkus character, what a treat!
This was my first time seeing the podcast live after being a long-time listener of the podcast and watcher of the show (RIP show)...waited 4 years to see this thing. The show ended up being 2 hours instead of an hour and a half because Scott Aukerman had a lot of guests. The only con was the theater seats; they were very uncomfortable, so whenever I laughed really hard (which was often) my stomach hurt like heck, but other than that I had a blast! Scott is a very sharp, funny dude hosting a slew of professional comedians and actors. It's kinda sad the whole Comedy Bang! Bang! thing isn't widely known because that was quality long-form improv.
I'm not sure what I expected from a 1.5 hour podcast recording but they just did the podcast recording on a stage instead of in a studio. Lacked visuals, no flairs, no frills. Seems like not a lot of bang for one's buck.
I've been listening to the podcast for just about a year and a half, so when I heard about the tour, I jumped on the chance to purchase. Incredible show and 100% worth every penny. Even though they were on their 5th out of 6 shows everybody involved was still on their A-game. I laughed from start to finish, and would listen to the recording again and again if I ever had the chance. Only thing is that I hope in the near future they will tour again because I would go back in an instant.
Seriously the most I've ever laughed in my entire life. Such a great show! Highly recommend to anyone who enjoys happiness.
The CBB live show lived up to the quality of the prerecorded podcast! Neil Campbell was a great opener and I enjoyed all the guests. Wish I could have gone to more dates!
I drove from Birmingham to see this show, especially drawn by Paul F. Tompkins and Scott Aukerman. They, Lauren Lapkus, Neil Campbell, and Drew Tarver put on the most exciting and hilarious show I've ever been to. The Tabernacle was a beautiful location, and concessions, restrooms, seating, and the meet-and-greet were all handled well by the staff.
It was a great show. I'd say more but who has the TIME?
This show was amazing!! my face hurt from laughing so much!!
So fantastically funny!!! Scott, Lauren and Paul are so genius and lightyears beyond all their peers. The funniest show I've ever seen live.
Awesome show. PFT did a new character, ho ho the elf, and idk what drew Travis did but it had me in stiches.
Neil Campbell gave a hilarious alt comedy standup as the opening act, and the other three carried a hilarious improvised character show for over an hour. There were lots of callbacks for podcast listeners, although unfortunately there were no special guests on this night. The comedians were gracious enough to stay and meet a lot of fans, and even to donate part of the proceeds to a local charity.
Auckerman, PFT and Lapkus are the holy trinity of improv comedy. If you like improv you MUST see this show. My show had the Timekeeper as the warm up which was also hysterical. Go see this show!
The comics were tired for this 10pm show, and were on stage for barely an hour. The warm-up act got bigger laughs.
