  • Mary Wilson, More than "Supreme"!

    by RickB1952 on 9/23/14Lincoln Theatre - COLUMBUSRating: 5 out of 5

Wow! What can I say. The Columbus Jazz Orchestra was very good. Their selections during the first half of the show were excellent, and performed superbly. The second half of the show, featuring Mary Wilson blew me away! There was an energy and grace that brought down the house. Mary not only sang beautifully and soulfully, but her chatting was both entertaining and humorous. My favorite part of the show was when she was singing the Jazz Ballads which seemed just made for her smoky smooth alto voice! And then to make the Best even better, Mary came out after the show to chat with her fans and sign autographs. Not only talented, but a genuine good person too!

  • WHAT TALENT!!!

Have never been to hear the Columbus Jazz group. They are AWESOME!! Music was unbelievably great! The theater is awesome. NOT a bad seat in the house. Quaint but just right for a personal performance. Mary Wilson exceeded our expectations and we were already pumped about seeing her live in concert. We've seen her on talk shows and jumped at the opportunity to listen to her live. She has an unbelievable voice and rocked the entire night! I HIGHLY recommend this concert! For JAZZ lovers, MOTOWN lovers, and Most of all MARY WILSON followers!!!

I really enjoyed the consert I hope they do it again. I would see her anytime she is close to Columbus. Berry Gordy cheated us out of talent. Columbus jazz orchestra was very tight.

I really enjoyed the show, Mary WIlson was amazing, for 70 years young, she showed so much energy, it was great. I always enjoy the Columbus Jazz Orchestra, I liked them even more when they played for free at the Jazz and Rib Festival, now I have to pay to see them.

Best concert I have seen in years. The Columbus Jazz Orchestra was fantastic and Mary Wilson has never been better.

This event was my first opportunity to attend the Columbus Jazz Orchestra's performance. It could not have been better. I am now a forever fan and will not miss a show. I've been raving about it to friends and family since Saturday night.

I'v seen quite a few big band trumpet players (Harry James, Ray Anthony, Ralph Marterie, Maynard Ferguson, Arturo Sandoval), but this show was the best I've heard in over 50 years of enjoying and playing a little bit of big band music. Although the trumpet playing was fantastic, it would not have been the same without the CJO. We came up from South Carolina for this concert, and I truly wish we had something like them in our area. We did see and enjoy the Tribute to Benny in Beaufort, SC and were pleasantly surprised to see Wes Orr. When CJO does a Stan Kenton tribute, I'll be back up. Thank you so much for a GREAT show

  • CJO - A True Treasure Right Here in Columbus Ohio!

by Bettree on 3/19/14Southern Theatre - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

CJO NEVER disappoints us, but this was outstanding! Ken Peplowski and Bria Skonberg were amazing! The acoustics of the Southern Theater are perfect for these performances. Peplowski is a true genius and Bria Skonberg a new jewel of an entertainer. Yes, go to the CJO !!

  • Don't You Forget About Molly

    by CMFinn0970 on 3/12/14Southern Theatre - ColumbusRating: 4 out of 5

The concert itself was very good. My only beef was with the Meet and Greet following. I have been a HUGE fan of Molly Ringwald ever since the 1980s and the John Hughes films. I was over the moon that I was going to get to meet her and have her sign my Breakfast Club poster and get a picture with her without freezing having to stake out the stage door! Imagine my disappointment when not only was I made aware that she would not sign ANYTHING but her CD, but that she was not posing for photos, either! I have no problem with spending $20 to buy her CD, which I did, but it would have meant so much more to me to have her sign the poster for my absolute favorite movie of all time! And I did manage to get a few photos on my phone, but nothing like the photo I dreamed I would get. I am happy that I met her and shook her hand and got her to sign a CD, but it was not the fan experience I had dreamed of.

  • CJO is great!

    by T1958 on 2/12/14Southern Theatre - ColumbusRating: 4 out of 5

Columbus Jazz Orchestra is fantastic on their own. Molly Ringwald should choose a different genre. She has a pretty voice but she did not impress as a blues vocalist. Of the songs she sang, the one I liked best wasn't available to buy on I=tunes. I don't want her album

  • Molly Ringwald and the CJO

by powderdog on 2/12/14Southern Theatre - ColumbusRating: 1 out of 5

The CJO was great and I could listen to Byron sing and play all day. Molly Ringwald looked lovely and had rapport with the audience, but her singing was weak. She demonstrated a very small range and lost pitch when extending it low or high. She barely got through "I Feel Pretty" losing the entrance to the second verse, missing some lines and barely holding the pace to finish on time with the band. I expected better.

The CJO was fantastic as always. Bobby Floyd and the organ are made for each other. Ms. ringwald was fine not strong but ok in a lounge singer setting.

  • Molly Ringwald Singer

    by DAB2011 on 2/11/14Southern Theatre - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

The Columbus Jazz Orchestra continues their string of bringing top notch performers to Columbus. As always, the atmosphere in the Southern Theatre was quite condusive to a outstanding performance by both the CJO and Molly Ringwald. She was personable and established a rapport with the audience that made you feel right at home. However the best part of the concert was the performance held in the Westin hotel lobby after the concert. Members of the CJO joined by Molly's keyboard player treated those in the lobby to an outstanding performance of jazz and song. The solo's were top notch and created the environment of an old time jazz club hall. All in all an outstanding night for jazz in Columbus.

  • The CJO saved the show!

    by Julia5275 on 2/11/14Southern Theatre - ColumbusRating: 4 out of 5

The Columbus Jazz Orkestra delivered great performance. Outstanding musicians! We really enjoyed every composition. It was nice warm and entertaining event. Until Molly came along. She was a true dissapointment. It seems she was not ready for the performance . She came up in a wrinkled red satin short skirt with a sparkling gold top. It was odd outfit for a Sat. Night jazz performance. Molly left an impression that she is uncomfortable on the stage. Even I like her voice, I think she chooses wrong songs. She cannot sing jazz. Very few songs sounded OK. The CJO saved the evening!!!

  • by Anonymous on 2/11/14Southern Theatre - ColumbusRating: 3 out of 5

Molly was great- it was fun to see her vocal artist side after reading her books and seeing her movies. The one downer was that she only sang for half the show. Wish I had known that before going!

  • Sadly, Molly Was Disappointing ...

    by MeggieB73 on 2/10/14Southern Theatre - ColumbusRating: 3 out of 5

I'd never seen the Columbus Jazz Orchestra before and they blew me away. I thought they were amazing. On that positive note, the second half half of the show was pretty disappointing. I wanted to love Molly Ringwald's singing as much as her movies that I grew up with, but unfortunately that wasn't the case. She seemed nervous, uncomfortable and awkward the entire time. Her singing was inconsistent, flat and uninspired. I think it's great Molly's looking to reinvent herself by singing the jazz standards she loves so much. Maybe she'll become more comfortable with time. A nice surprise was an impromptu CD signing after the show :).

  • Disappointing

by Minibite on 2/10/14Southern Theatre - ColumbusRating: 2 out of 5

The CJO was great with sparkling performances by members of the orchestra. Molly Ringwald was quite disappointing. Her stage presence was stilted and awkward. Her singing was much below par and hard to hear in many portions. Even her song selections were bland.
