Columbus Blue Jackets History

The Columbus Blue Jackets — whose name pays tribute to Ohio's substantial contributions to the Union army during the Civil War — joined the NHL as an expansion franchise in 2000.

The Blue Jackets played their first 12 seasons as a member of the Western Conference, making their first foray into the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 2008-2009 led by All-Star winger Rick Nash and Rookie of the Year goaltender Steve Mason.

NHL realignment saw the team move to the Eastern Conference in 2013-2014, and the Blue Jackets have since collected six winning seasons and qualified for the Stanley Cup Playoffs five times. Columbus was one of just three teams to earn playoff berths in four consecutive seasons from 2016-2020, joining the Boston Bruins and Washington Capitals.

In 2018-2019, the eighth-seeded Blue Jackets faced off against the Presidents' Trophy-winning and top-seeded Tampa Bay Lightning in the first round of the playoffs. The Blue Jackets shocked the heavily-favored Lightning as they became the first team in NHL history to earn a four-game sweep in the first round of the playoffs against a team with the league's best regular-season record.

Great game and entertainment. Seats are tight - 6 feet 2 inch and No legroom. Knees were against the seat in front. No shoulder room either- very tight.

My cold black flyers fan heart thanks you

    by Wakegoalie27 on 3/28/17Nationwide Arena - Columbus

Made a trip up from virginia to see my flyers take on the jackets. I've always had a fan boy side for columbus for some reason. Anyways, my fiance and i left at 6am to get to columbus a few hours before the game to grab some local food and walk around the city a bit. Got there at a little after 12 and was welcomed to the building by a huge image of bob and foligno (how can you NOT love these guys). The fans were incredible, very welcoming and very friendly people. The building was immaculate, greeted by some happy faces and yes! Finally after 6 1/2 hours of drive time we made it! Go to our seats in section 122 and watched my favorite tendy (bobrovsky) take some warm ups before the game and of course snagged some pics. Well, we all know how the game went. Bob shuts the door (thanks bob, i just wanted to celebrate once...but nooooooooo). Anyway, the whole organization was just awesome. The fanbase, the ushers, concessions and random guest services people were all just insanely friendly (yes despite my brightly colored winter classic jersey). The building is fantastic, for such a short story franchise the building has a very rich team history feel. 5/5 would and will definitely be visiting again. Must make a yearly pilgrimage to this amazing place! Thank you from the bottom of my black flyers heart for such a great time!!!

    Need More Local Support

by Hockeymoose on 3/25/17Nationwide Arena - Columbus

There were way too many Toronto fans. Blue Jacket fans need to support their playoff bound team and not sell their tickets to opposing team fans. It was even worse because the home team lost and I sat in an area with a number of extremely obnoxious and arrogant Toronto fans. I can't understand why anyone likes to go to opposing teams' arenas and show the world how ignorant and obnoxious they are.

    Awesome Game!

    by JBD88 on 3/17/17Nationwide Arena - Columbus

This was my first time attending an NHL game at the nationwide arena. My interest in attending was to see my team, the Pittsburgh Penguins, in an away game and to experience that. The Nationwide Arena has a great atmosphere, very clean and the staff was very friendly. The seats were awesome and for a great price! I would definitely attend a game there again. Only if they play the Penguins ;)

    Another amazing night with CBJ

by GrannieNinja on 3/13/17Nationwide Arena - Columbus

Again, we had an amazing time watching the Blue Jackets dominate the ice against the Sabres! It was also special because we brought our grandson and his friend to celebrate grandson's birthday. The boys had a ball and were able to see themselves on the big screen! Thank you, CBJ players and organization, for such a great time!

    CBJ have great fans

    by 4hockey on 3/5/17Nationwide Arena - Columbus

My husband and I flew to Columbus for the game. We are planning to get to all (31) rinks eventually. The seats were great and the game very intense- ended on a 1-0 W for CBJ.We enjoyed the passion of the fans and CBJ fans were very friendly. We sat next to CBJ fans Julie and Stuart and they made us feel welcome and were excited we were watching their team. The rink was also very nice but I will remember the most the very nice fans at the rink.

Columbus Blue Jackets vs New Islanders

by Pybyrd on 3/2/17Nationwide Arena - Columbus

The most spectacular hockey game I've ever seen - 7 - 0 . The Blue Jackets were on the whole game. Had to sit in Sec. 120 because regular seating was too small for a 6'3" 300lb. former defensive lineman, but, none the less, was never uncomfortable. Next time will order tickets, with appropriate explanation !

    CBL/PENS... PLAYOFF PREVIEW...2/17/17?

by OLDTL on 2/20/17Nationwide Arena - Columbus

Despite out checking on Pens, the Pens got away with (1) point, which is huge even at this stage of the season. Forget about the (2) disallowed goals ,CBL gave up one bad goal off their own end face off. Yes it was a great game to play turn about from (2) weeks ago in overtime again. However the bottom line is we gave them (2) points in the last (2) meetings. We must get tighter before the playoffs, and continue on that edge. LETS GO CBJ!!!KEEP ROLLING ON, from Tony in Pgh...Yea CROSBY S....

Worth Seeing Pens Play in Columbus

    by CMM0730 on 2/20/17Nationwide Arena - Columbus

Nationwide Arena was nice. I enjoyed the concourses more than the PPG Arena (Pens) - there was more space, no wait for concessions, and no wait for the bathroom (plenty of bathrooms too). The seats however were much smaller than PPG Arena. Area outside of Nationwide was nice / friendly as well. PLENTY of Pens fans too - maybe just as many of them as the Blue Jackets! Blue Jackets fans were friendly (no real heckling, even after the Pens lost). I would recommend at least trying once.
