Colt Ford is back with his best album ever and all it took was a return to his roots.
“I went backwards,” Colt says. “I went back to Ride Through The Country.” Which is not to say Colt simply re-hashed his breakthrough album. Quite the contrary, in fact.
In all, Colt wrote or co-wrote 14 of the album’s 15 tracks. “This album is very real and honest and by far the best record I’ve ever made,” Colt says with pride. “The last two records—I stand up and cheer for them—but I tried to make a lot of people happy on the last two records and I took the edge off of it. On this record I put the edge back on there.”
Those familiar with Colt’s lotta-fun-legacy shouldn’t be surprised that Declaration of Independence is chock-full of good time anthems and left turns. “I hear artists say, ‘I’ve got 10 songs and they’re all singles.’ Well, I don’t know if I want to even hear that record, because that shouldn’t be the case,” Colt contends. “If you did 10 songs and they’re all singles you did a whole album of vanilla. I would prefer to have a few different flavors. Just because something isn’t designed as a single, doesn’t mean it’s not a great song.”
For the legion of fans that have seen Colt’s live shows—over 750,000 did in 2011 alone—“the edge” is what they’ve come to expect. In the same way that a superstar athlete leaves everything he has on the field, Colt knows no other way to perform than to be all in. “I give it everything I’ve got when I go out on stage,” he says. “It’s about the fans. That’s my goal, to reach and touch as many people as I can. I don’t really have any goals beyond that. I’m so blessed and lucky to play music for a living.”
Perhaps it’s that sense of not belonging that allows Colt to connect to his blue-collar fans. “There’s nothing about me that ain’t country,” Colt says with a laugh.
As millions of fans and Colt’s artist friends know, truer words have never been spoken.

Great show at Altar Bar! Crowd loved him, and sang all best songs!
Colt Ford played a great show! Sounded great, hits all night! The "drummer comes up and sings BonJovi" was kinda hokey, and did nothing for the show....actually made the show lose a little momentum.... But overall, we all agreed we enjoyed the show, and were glad to see Colt Ford make it to NEW YORK to play!
Colt Ford was great except his warm up bands were sloppy.
Had a chance to see ol Colt in Lafayette at the outlaws saloon, Great show and even a greater party. He did the damn thing will diffidently see him again but not the Texas Club. 20 dollars for 5 beers, bars understaffed and not enough room for a crowd of that magnitude.
Tommy even got me and hubby backstage befor concert to meet Colt and get Autographs and pics for my hubby and my 25th wedding Anniversary! Concert rocket... Then after show Colt signed merchandise and took more pics...GREAT night!!!
I enjoyed the whole experience. The Lacs were awesome and Colt Ford was fun to watch.
The Cornfield Mafia was great. Loved everything that they had played. Bush Hawg was great. Enjoyed them alot. Colt Ford was awsome. Can't wait to see him again in concert. I hope that they bring him back to the Eight Second Saloon.
BETTER THAN I COULD HAVE HOPED FOR!!! WHAT A GREAT TIME FROM START TO FINISH!!!
The show was amazing! Probably best concert we've seen. So much fun from beginning to end. Already looking for the next show in our area. Both opening acts, Bush Hawg & Cornfield Mafia, were great. 8 Seconds Saloon was the perfect venue for Colt Ford.
This was one of the best shows I ever seen I would love to see colt play more often in Indiana his music is awesome
he put on 1 heck of a show!!! cant wait to c him again!!!
This was one of the best concerts I have ever been to!!
The artists were great!! They went over and above expectations. The event staff left alot to be desired!! From the guys out front directing cars to the guys inside. We waited in line to see an artist, got almost to the front and was moved to the other side to start all over. Once we got to the front again everyone was moved back to the other side. I was so frustrated I gave up meeting him. Very poor staff!!!!
I would recommend to everyone, if they have a chance to see Colt Ford to do it!!!
Colt Ford is very talented and very fun on stage. His band was also great, including that cute girl he had as a back up singer, and the fiddle player. The electric and bass guitar players were great, and the drummer rocked out. I would recommend this show to anyone. My friends and I had a lot of fun.
They put on a h**l of a show! Sounded true to cd's. They Entertained not just sang.
I loved Colt Ford... Opening bands were awesome he was awesome! He did autographs! Loved it!!
