Colt Ford is back with his best album ever and all it took was a return to his roots.
“I went backwards,” Colt says. “I went back to Ride Through The Country.” Which is not to say Colt simply re-hashed his breakthrough album. Quite the contrary, in fact.
In all, Colt wrote or co-wrote 14 of the album’s 15 tracks. “This album is very real and honest and by far the best record I’ve ever made,” Colt says with pride. “The last two records—I stand up and cheer for them—but I tried to make a lot of people happy on the last two records and I took the edge off of it. On this record I put the edge back on there.”
Those familiar with Colt’s lotta-fun-legacy shouldn’t be surprised that Declaration of Independence is chock-full of good time anthems and left turns. “I hear artists say, ‘I’ve got 10 songs and they’re all singles.’ Well, I don’t know if I want to even hear that record, because that shouldn’t be the case,” Colt contends. “If you did 10 songs and they’re all singles you did a whole album of vanilla. I would prefer to have a few different flavors. Just because something isn’t designed as a single, doesn’t mean it’s not a great song.”
For the legion of fans that have seen Colt’s live shows—over 750,000 did in 2011 alone—“the edge” is what they’ve come to expect. In the same way that a superstar athlete leaves everything he has on the field, Colt knows no other way to perform than to be all in. “I give it everything I’ve got when I go out on stage,” he says. “It’s about the fans. That’s my goal, to reach and touch as many people as I can. I don’t really have any goals beyond that. I’m so blessed and lucky to play music for a living.”
Perhaps it’s that sense of not belonging that allows Colt to connect to his blue-collar fans. “There’s nothing about me that ain’t country,” Colt says with a laugh.
As millions of fans and Colt’s artist friends know, truer words have never been spoken.
This was a very unforgettable concert. Everyone i know that went had a blast. I can't wait to see them again.
Jj law horn was good, Kevin fowler was iffy but colt ford was amazing. I'm a metal head and don't listen to much country, took my boyfriend for his birthday and ended up having a great time! I will go see colt ford again!
Colt Ford is a good ole country boy that knows how to get down. I was able to see him for the 3rd time and he is so awesome to see. The only bad thing I would be able to say is that he didn't come out for autographs, but he is a pretty busy guy, so I understand.
Going to see Colt tonight in Richmond, Va we have seen him every time he has come to Richmond and also saw him in Va. Beach LOVE Colt Ford GOOD OLE COUNTRY BOY!! Will write review tomorrow
My husband and I drove up to indy for the second time to see Colt Ford and he was awesome... We took my brother and his wife and niece and nephew that had never seen him live before and they had a blast. The one and only complaint that i would even think about relaying is because of the long wait from first band and Colt most people were wasted when he performed. We totally enjoyed ourselves.. and will definatley return to 8 Seconds Saloon...My husband says Colt Ford is just a good ole country boy.
It was a great concert. I loved that they had a DJ AND warm up bands before the concert, that way everyone could let loose a little bit. Me and two of my girlfriends were able to meet Colt Ford after being given three meet and greet passes from a couple people from the radio station. It was a great time!!
Drove from St. Louis, a 4 hour ride one way. It was sooo worth it! Cant wait till he comes closer to my home town so I can go again! LOVED IT!
The 8second Saloon was awesome and so was Colt Ford. However, I wish the tickets would have stated, the intro bands on the ticket or ticketmaster's website. The ticket stated doors opened at 6 (i was thinking concert@7), that was not the case the doors opened and NO ONE took the stage till 8:15, after two different artist, then Colt Ford took the stage at 11:25 REALLY????? I WAS SO DISAPPOINTED IN NOT KNOWING THIS, WE LIVE 2-1/2 HOURS AWAY, AND WE DID NOT GET A HOTEL BECASUE WE WERE UNAWARE OF THIS. VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THIS. ALL IN ALL THE CONCERT WAS GREAT!
Colt's shows are always fantastic but I was worried about standing all night. It wasn't a problem..Tons of energy from the opening acts to the last note. The venue (8 Seconds Saloon) was fantastic also. Staff were down to earth and treated eveyone with respect. This was my second show there and it's a five hour drive. Worth every mile.
Great on CD and even more amazing live! He's an artist I am willing to go see over and over again. Haven't seen him yet? You're missin out.
This concert was ridiculous and he was extremely late (3 hours). Just not acceptable and especially not good for publicity for future concerts of his.
We really enjoyed the concert. There was a lot of energy & he def gave us our money's worth! Our one complaint is that we were so excited when he started playing "Cricket on a Line" (our 3 yr old's favorite song & ours), but only played a portion of it. We expected to hear the whole song! Still had a great time tho!
A Colt Ford show is always great, Kevin Fowler was awesome also. The only problem we had is that even though Wild Bill's fills their own ATM's they failed to do so all night. Instead of being able to get cash I had to use my debit card all night long. Not the preffered method for my wife or I.
Loved Colt Ford. Would love to see him again. Hopefully he will come back soon.
Happy new year!!! This event was awesome everything i expected. The bayhrooms were very clean but the tipping thing is a little outdated!!! Pretty cool to see him up close, overall was a good experience!!!
New years eve with Colt Ford and Kevin Fowler was a lot of fun. We had a very good time seeing both bands. The place was totaly packed and everyone was having a blast.
Colt ford is awesome I always have a blast at his shows. Just didn't see his girls this time, and they rock! But I strongly believe Colt Ford should be playing on the radio by now! But reguardless he's making himself known!
My husband and I love going to the Grizzly Rose for concerts. It has always been a great experience and will continue frequent there. We drive from central Wyoming for shows there often. As far as Colt Ford goes...he was amazing!!! We can't wait for him to come back soon, we will be right there watching again!! We took some friends that didn't know much of his music and they also had a great time...I think we made some new Colt fans!
I was right at the stage. Colt was great. Had a wonderful time. Can't wait to see hin again.
I absolutely enjoyed the show. The only thing i did not like was they didnt put T-shirts for sale. My daughter LOVES Colt Ford and I wanted to bring her a shirt. She is 8 and could not attend the show because it was in a bar. So I was a lil upset not to beable to bring her a shirt back
