Colt Ford is back with his best album ever and all it took was a return to his roots.
“I went backwards,” Colt says. “I went back to Ride Through The Country.” Which is not to say Colt simply re-hashed his breakthrough album. Quite the contrary, in fact.
In all, Colt wrote or co-wrote 14 of the album’s 15 tracks. “This album is very real and honest and by far the best record I’ve ever made,” Colt says with pride. “The last two records—I stand up and cheer for them—but I tried to make a lot of people happy on the last two records and I took the edge off of it. On this record I put the edge back on there.”
Those familiar with Colt’s lotta-fun-legacy shouldn’t be surprised that Declaration of Independence is chock-full of good time anthems and left turns. “I hear artists say, ‘I’ve got 10 songs and they’re all singles.’ Well, I don’t know if I want to even hear that record, because that shouldn’t be the case,” Colt contends. “If you did 10 songs and they’re all singles you did a whole album of vanilla. I would prefer to have a few different flavors. Just because something isn’t designed as a single, doesn’t mean it’s not a great song.”
For the legion of fans that have seen Colt’s live shows—over 750,000 did in 2011 alone—“the edge” is what they’ve come to expect. In the same way that a superstar athlete leaves everything he has on the field, Colt knows no other way to perform than to be all in. “I give it everything I’ve got when I go out on stage,” he says. “It’s about the fans. That’s my goal, to reach and touch as many people as I can. I don’t really have any goals beyond that. I’m so blessed and lucky to play music for a living.”
Perhaps it’s that sense of not belonging that allows Colt to connect to his blue-collar fans. “There’s nothing about me that ain’t country,” Colt says with a laugh.
As millions of fans and Colt’s artist friends know, truer words have never been spoken.

This was great!! First I had ever seen Colt. He was awesome. Put his heart into it. I also thought his fiddle/ guitar player/ part time singer was fantastic! Really versatile. And the guitar player was great - seemed like he could have been playing with Van Halen or AC/DC! Thoroughly enjoyed it.
This show didn't go off till almost 11pm but it was worth it!
The concert was great! The venue seating chart wasn't spelled out clearly...I thought we would be closer to the stage with a reserved seat but that wasn't the case. Other than that, the sound quality was good and we still had a great time.
Colt ford was amazing in person and the band before him, gunner and the grizzly boys. I would love to see them both again.
In addition to playing non stop for over 2 hours, Colt Ford stayed after the show to sign every single autograph for everyone in attendance. Turn out was great for his first ever west coast show, but when asked if he was happy with the turnout, he replied "even if only 2 people showed up I would still play the same show. Every person deserves the best show I can give no matter how many people come". I look forward to his return December 6th, opening for Florida Georgia Line, as well as him potentially playing at my bar two nights later, December 8th, at Borderline Bar & Grill in Thousand Oaks.
Colt ford at Texas Club in Baton Rouge was amazing! We had meet and greet passes, so it was beyond wonderful! He is the nicest guy and put on an awesome show!
Colt Ford rocked the hell out of that stage. He is as real as any performer gets and funny as can be. He did an amazing job and his set was perfect. He played all of the songs we wanted to hear and just rocked them!! Everyone should see Colt in action!!
The vocal sound quality so very poor. If you didn't know the words, you could not tell what they were singing. It is also disappointing to see a celebrity that young people look up to so very obviously unhealthy.
Had a blast at this concert with my friends. I have only known who he is for about a year so when I heard he was playing I had to go see him. Will go see him again if I am given the chance!
i've seen colt before and i'll go see him again! been a fan for many years!
He's just an overall great performer! Of course he can sing, but when he started dancing the crowd went wild!
You can't beat Colt Ford's ticket prices, which he intentionally keeps low. The venue is outstanding and the staff are always great. There are multiple hotels within a short distance and some of them offer a shuttle to and from the concert at no extra cost. Not alot of places to eat but there are two restraunts close. Headed back in February, enjoy the smaller venue over an arena.
Great concert. Hope he comes back soon. It's was beat seeing colt play the drums and his drummer signing.
Best concert ive ever been too. Show was pretty sweet!
Great venue! Several bars with fantastic bartenders!! The show was amazing! I had a blast!
I thought the show was awesome. Everyone was great. I would most definitely go again
Did see Colt in Richmond,Va. on 3/3. OMG!! He always puts on an amazing show!! Couldn't talk for 2 days after the show!! He really connects with the crowd!! I think he should come back here in Sept and play at the Nascar Race @ RIR. NOW that would be AWESOME!! GOOD OLE COUNTRY BOY!! We LOVE here in Richmon, VA. Keep coming back!! Rocked all nite long!!
AMAZING! I had and absolute blast I rocked out all night.
I LOVED the show! I can not believe what I seen that night. Since Saturday March 3, 2012 I have not stopped listening to Colt Ford. I liked the atmosphere of the place he was at. The other two people that opened for him were pretty cool their selves. It was an unforgettable moment! (: I really enjoyed it and I am so glad that I traveled 5-6 hours just to see him. It was worth it all.
