Showed up at 15 minutes to noon, to be ready for the….nonexistent crowds waiting for gates to open. (I only thought that a triple shot race of $500K to $1 Mil might mean increased traffic?) Clearly the emphasis in Colonial Downs centers on Rosie’s gambling rather than horse races. Glad I paid for covered seats as breeze was better, plus allowance through the Jockey Club upstairs was nicer than mini-Vegas below.
The additional food vendors were most welcome, but the grilled pretzel was uninspired. My husband caught good shots of the flyover formation, and paddock-to-race action on the turf….but something was lacking. (Not the barbershop quartet singing the Star Spangled Banner, they were amazing!)
I came away disappointed, though somewhat encouraged about the non-favorites winning movie re than a few races. (So much for the ‘experts’!)
Not sure I will go back.
