Maryland-bred rockers Clutch have been a hot ticket on the tour circuit and a mainstay on the rock radio airwaves for well over a decade. That streak continued in 2013 with the release of a well-received new album titled Earth Rocker, which topped Billboard's Top Hard Rock Albums chart, and plenty of concert dates, stopping at the likes of The Depot (Salt Lake City) and other world-class venues. The group's consistency even extends to its lineup, which features three members -- Neil Fallon (vocals, keyboards), Tim Sult (lead guitar), Dan Maines (bass), and Jean-Paul Gaster (drums) -- who have been in the group since it formed in 1991.
Clutch released their debut album, 1993's Transnation Speedway League, after landing a deal with EastWest Records, largely thanks to their reputation as a strong concert act. The band's growing fan base and the success of their self-titled 1995 sophomore release lead to a short-lived major-label deal with Columbia. Clutch's 2009 and 2013 albums, their ninth and 10th, were released on the group's own Weathermaker label.
They put on an amazing show, always full of energy. This is the third time I've seen them and would defiantely see them again and again.
My buddy over-hyped me to see CLUTCH for my first time. The singer tried to sound funky, but he had white-boy rhythm. The band was tight but nothing profound. I like their videos better. Wino did acoustic because a guy in his band died. He didn't rip up the acoustic fretboard. Wino leads on the acoustic always were a one position double hammer on with a third finger bend ending and the same crap it came out of as quickly as it went. I left early. I don't remember the other bands. And being I drank club soda that night, they must have not been good to the point of my remembering them sober.
It was an amazing show all around! Baroness rocked our faces off from begining to end. Clutch brought it like they always do.
Opened with a solid local band, Mitra, Rock/Reggae band lionize felt a little out of place between Clutch and Mitra but they pulled it off and are a solid group but Clutch put on the best show of the three groups with music spanning from old to new From the self entitled album all the way to Strange Cousins. Amazing show even better the second time around (saw them a year ago)
My ears are still ringing!! They killed!! I can't believe I've never seen them in concert before! Lionize rocked too with the same guitarist as Clutch ( i had no idea the guitarist was in 2 bands). A DEFINATE MUST SEE!
The House of Blues Houston is a fabulous venue and Clutch rocks! I was impressed with everything about the show.
This was the first time I've seen Clutch and I've never really listened to them much either. However, after seeing them live I can say that now I'm a fan. They played a very well-rounded set and the music was tightly played. Overall, a great show.
All bands were great. It was an excellent show and the venue was good to go too. Clutch always amazes me. Anytime you get a chance to catch them in concert it is always going to be an awesome time.
FANTASTIC SHOW, GREAT BAND, ROCKED THE STAGE NON-STOP
Lionize started things off great! Good energy, great music, wonderful way to set the mood. Baroness caressed your ears with amazing instrumental prowess. The lead singer did have some issues with the mic not being to pick up his growly vocals. Clutch drove you home with incredible audio and marvelous vocals. Flawless
All I can say is, they rocked my ass off. Seriously, I have no ass left. Opening band Lionize was pretty good too. Kind of a metal Bob Marley. Baroness? Ewwww. Not so much.
First off a great thanks to The House of Blues and there staff. My seat was upgraded to balcony do to me being disabled, but to the real reason for the review. CLUTCH!!! The most energetic, lively, meaningful, and powerful show I have EVER been to. Any time I get to see Clutch again I will, without a shadow of a doubt, go to there show. The entire band is extremely talented, and brought a stage presence to the show as I have never seen before. I would recommend any one who hasn't seen Clutch live to do so right now!!!
The House of Blues was a cool venue, the open act was great, and Clutch was fantastic. We have seen Clutch several times, and they never disappoint. When are they coming back to Houston??
Clutch is probably the only band I see every time they come through town. Usually once I've seen a band I can skip 'em next time around. Not Clutch. Most people I've turned on to Clutch have been through a live show rather than a CD, which I think is rare. Their live stuff is just as good, if not better, than their albums. At this show they played a lot of old songs I've never heard live so that was a real treat for me. That's another amazing thing about them. They don't have one set of songs they play over and over. They can pick and choose randomly from their entire library and still put on an amazing show. Go see 'em. You'll thank me later.
This has got to be one of the most amazing shows i have ever seen at house of blues. Clutch is so energetic and full out fan loving thanks for the best show!
Opening acts were GREAT ! Seats were great - staff was great ! Clutch - R u kidding me they rocked it hard - WOW what a great sound... LOVED it
As always Clutch put on one hell of a show, They must of played 22+ songs,.to me going to Clutch is like taking a week long vacation and it must be done atleast once a year. Abraham Lincoln was sooooo sweet to hear live, love the new album. they also played most of The Elephant Riders album, Elephant Riders sounded really cool good w/Neil playing along. also glad they came back out and played like 3 more songs as an oncore.......LIVE LONG MIGHT C!
This was my first Clutch show and I will NOT miss another one!!
This was the 2nd time I've seen Clutch. Great performers and amazingly talented musicians. Lionize, one of the opening bands, were also amazing. They featured Tim Sult, the guitarist from Clutch.
Clutch began the set with several "old school" randitions of records past. The band has stripped down back to their foursome beginings. No more key board; no more harmonica. CLUTCH played for an hour and a 1/2 and afforded the crowd one curtain call. Over all performance was above average but not the best CLUTCH show that I have seen. I believe Neil Fallon, lead singer, might of had a sore throat or "cold"; he kept drinking water and looked like he was taking throat losanges from his roadie. With that said, his voice was strong, however this being my 7th CLUTCH show, I could tell that he wa n ot there as strong as shows past. I enjoyed the second opening act, they were solid. The first act was a bit un-polished and a little bit over-the-top cheesy by some standards (i hear people in the crawd talking). I though they were at least sme-what entertaining and seemed to enjoy what they do.
