About

Maryland-bred rockers Clutch have been a  hot ticket on the tour circuit and a mainstay on the rock radio airwaves for well over a decade. That streak continued in 2013 with the release of a well-received new album titled Earth Rocker, which topped Billboard's Top Hard Rock Albums chart, and plenty of concert dates, stopping at the likes of The Depot (Salt Lake City) and other world-class venues. The group's consistency even extends to its lineup, which features three members -- Neil Fallon (vocals, keyboards), Tim Sult (lead guitar), Dan Maines (bass), and Jean-Paul Gaster (drums) -- who have been in the group since it formed in 1991.

Clutch released their debut album, 1993's Transnation Speedway League, after landing a deal with EastWest Records, largely thanks to their reputation as a strong concert act. The band's growing fan base and the success of their self-titled 1995 sophomore release lead to a short-lived major-label deal with Columbia. Clutch's 2009 and 2013 albums, their ninth and 10th, were released on the group's own Weathermaker label.

  • Clutch is not a BAND to miss

by bullfrog5 on 7/23/09The Regency Ballroom - San FranciscoRating: 5 out of 5

The band is awesome as is the crowd it draws. The heavy rock mixed with a progression of sorts and funk is totally the coolest. Clutch keeps ticket prices affordable and they deliver every time. The setlist was killer as usual. This band couldn't put on a bad show. Their influences appear to be that of Zappa and much of the 70's artists.

Clutch was awesome! These guys once again blew me away. This was like the 15th time I've seen them and it seems like they keep getting better and better. The new cd (Strange Cousins..) is soooo tight. Long live Clutch! I hope they never stop bringing those rockin' groovy sounds and clever trippy lyrics espically the ones that refer to the Allmighty and His Word!!!

  • Clutch, Canes, and the beach...enough said

by DeindamatiC on 7/22/09Canes - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

The band was amazing, the venue was great, and the only thing that could compare to the location, was the atmosphere. We kept catching the guys from Clutch hanging out, outside the bus enjoying the scenery, and they were more than happy to say what's up, and sign some autographs. Inside Canes, the staff couldn't have been friendlier, and didn't skip a beat when it came to throwing out drunken buzz kills. There's no venue I'd rather catch a show at.

  • As expected...

...Clutch always brings it hard. There's no better blues based hard rock band anywhere.

  • Clutch at HOB Sunset, LA

by chriskingphoto on 7/22/09House of Blues Sunset Strip - HollywoodRating: 5 out of 5

The BEST show I've ever seen at HOB! Clutch is one of my top three bands of all time and they didn't let a moment go by that didn't kick ass. Live they are amazing and have a stage presence that is pure energy. The encore was surreal. The crowd was alive. Overall, one of the best events I've ever been to in my life. Thanks Clutch and House of Blues.

Clutch always puts on a stunning performance and their show at the HoB Sunset Strip was no exception. From the astounding, persistent drums to the leave-nothing-behind vocals, Clutch offers the most intense, highest energy experience of any band I have ever seen.

  • Clutch was great again

I've seen Clutch at the Roxy and at the Fonda. Both shows were good and put Clutch on my list of favorite live bands. But last night's show at H.O.B. was tighter and sounded even better than before. I even liked the new stuff I was'nt familiar with. Great show!

  • Not as impressed as I have been in the past.

First off Clutch is my favorite band & I've been a fan of theirs since 92. This show was the 6th time I had seen them live. Clutch themselves were pretty good. My issues with them are 1. Neils mic was way too low and I could barely hear his vocals. 2. They didn't take the stage till almost 10:40. After I had already been standing on my feet trying to save my spot up front since 8:00. They had 2 opening bands. The first band featured Tim Sult on guitar which was very cool. They were sort of like a reggae version of Clutch. They played for about 1/2 an hour and were done. The 2nd band however played for almost an hour. They were extremely loud and again I couldn't hear the singer. IMO the 2nd band played way too long. By the time Clutch took the stage I was tired & ready to go home. Keep in mind this show was on a Monday night. Like I say Clutch themselves were good exept for the low vocals. I just whish they had come on earlier.

Clutch never disappoints. They have so many CD's each with there own sound. Clutch does a great job putting a show together across all of there albums. They are the greatest band on the planet.

  • Clutch!

by rockerMD on 7/19/09House of Blues Dallas - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

My second time seeing these guys, and definitely a larger venue than the previous show. For those of you familiar with Clutch, they've grown a bit over the years. Heavy metal at the beginning to bluesy southern rock these days, they continue to change their sound. However, tonight they proved that they still can play it all, mixing the new and old with aplomb, and hitting on all cylinders. With the exception of some idiots moshing, which distracted from the show, I had a great time. I was lucky enough to be in the front 3 or 4 rows until I got tired of getting knocked into from behind and retreated to the mixing station to watch the rest of the show. They played some classics from pure rock fury like "red horse rainbow", and even some jams from their first album. it's nice to hear some highlights from the past. Also they nailed some of their more recent tunes, a great band to see live any time they come through town. A real bummer that Baroness couldn't perform, but I understand someone in the band had a death in the family.
