Absolutely go if you can, this show was phenomenal
Clannad is fabulous. Great sound and intimate setting. So glad I caught the farewell tour
I have enjoyed seeing Clannad multiple times in the past. I first came across their music when U2 entered the stage at the Boston Garden to their "Theme from Harry's Game"--a haunting and arresting, ethereal sound. If you're unfamiliar with it, stop reading now, and go check that tune out! I saw them this time at the Wilbur Theatre in Boston, which, with its small dimensions, gave a "private party"feel to the event. Lots of Irish transplants in the crowd which enhanced the experience. The group did a fine job of drawing from their extensive catalogue going all the way back to 1970. I wrote "Bittersweet Farewell"as the title of this review since they said they would no longer be performing as Clannad. Knowing this, crowd gave an exceptionally=rousing ovation at the end of the night. Moire's kids, who were performing in the rear of the stage throughout provide hope that there will be more to come from such a gifted musical family--Ireland's finest!
It was a great show, love the music and the interactions with the audience.
It was magical to see Moya and Clannad at the Town Hall; and what a thrill to see her daughter Aisling and son (Paul?) on stage with them, singing and playing beautifully, continuing the family tradition. They are consummate pros and put on a great show. However the sound was ridiculously loud for the venue, and the drums were on overdrive. The sound mixing could have been better, and the volume just drowned out the nuances that would have allowed us to enjoy the quieter instrumental pieces more. That said, the evening was magical, just like Clannad. They are one of a kind, and I am so glad I got to see them on their farewell tour!
Magical and mystical experience. I will remember this evening in NYC for a lifetime and beyond.
Great show, even if you don't speak gaelic! Can't believe they've been playing since the 70s!
I attended the "Clannad-In A Lifetime: The Farewell"concert at New York's Town Hall Theatre. It was a magical evening and everything I hoped it would be. A wonderful concert filled with Irish charm and enchanting music with a mix of songs in English and Gaelic. Many of the group's most loved songs were performed and there was a definite connection between the artists and the audience that made for a wonderfully intimate concert experience. I would absolutely recommend this concert to anyone who is a fan of Clannad or Irish music, in general. They're among the most well-loved Irish music groups ever (as evidenced by many audience members flying in from Ireland just to see the show) and it would be a shame to miss a last chance to see the surviving members of the group on their farewell tour. You will not be disappointed.
Muy buen espectáculo. Muy buena la música y el repertorio seleccionado por el grupo.
Brilliant concert, so talented. I first saw Clannad in Dublin when I was 13yrs old, as a special treat for my confirmation with my parents. So it was extra special that I was able to bring my Mam to see their farewell tour while she is visiting from Ireland. It was like coming full circle. Thank you.
We heard Clannad forty years ago. Of course you can’t expect, that they sound the same. But you can expect that you feel that the band has fun to play together and the single members communicate together as musicians. There was not such a thing. It was kind of sterile, well played but no real passion. The voice of the lead singer was often not clear. We left the show during the break, a bit sad; times they are changing.
Well after waiting for almost 4 years for this show, and it was well worth it. A great show and cast. So sad that this is the final farewell after 50 years of make wonderful music and touring❣️🙂+😢
Watching Clannad onstage at Town Hall in NYC brought back a flood of memories of the past 40+ years. From watching Robin Hood The Hooded Man from the BBC to listening to the Theme from Harry's Game while landing in Dublin at dawn, the memories came flooding back in waves of emotion. The harmonies and the instrumentals were spot on, and the selection of songs included everything I imagined it would be. Remembered images of Ireland rolled through my head throughout the set. The show filled me with joy - tears and all.
Clannad is a superb interpreter of traditional Irish and Celtic music. Also, they are a very innovative group that showcases excellent original songs performed superbly by them in Concert. They are very personal group who interacts with the audience very well. Their performance at the Count Basie Theater in Red Bank, NJ was very uplifting.
It has been a tough year for Irish Music, first Horslips retire now Clannad is in the process of retiring, Thanks to all involved it's been lovely. I purchased the tickets for Clannad performing at the Basie Theater in Red Bank, NJ because we have seen several shows there and it is a wonderful place. Clannad were brilliant. Total professionalism and artistic wizardry...it was an amazing evening of music. It was also our 39th Wedding Anniversary and it did not disappoint. Those of you still in line for a visit by Clannad on their Farewell Tour, get your tickets, you will not be disappointed!!
This was the first time I saw Clannad live and it was the concert. The music was awesome and the members were so connected together with their musical talent.
What an amazing performance. I loved listening to them talk as much as I loved hearing them sing and play.
Fan since Secondary School (tapes to CD formats!!). Date myself - late 70s/ early 80s!!! Loved this live concert. First time seeing my teenage “study to music” band in person!! Loved Morag (I’m a Scot 🏴), the Magical Ring, Harry’s Theme and Robin Hood (saw the original TV series back in Ol’ Blighty - eeh gads!!), among others like “I will find you” (Last of Mohicans) ❤️ Great acoustics and good view in the Loge seating at Count Basie. (Flute might have needed a bit of a tune up - my only critique.) Glad to see them afore they sail into the sunset -albeit well deserved retirement (lovely seeing her “kids” as part of the backing band - Clannad Next Generation??!!). Good Craic💚
We thoroughly enjoyed the Clannad concert at Count Basie Theater. One of our favorite musical groups! The music was fun, uplifting, and energizing. Listening to the artists explain the history of the music and lyrics deepens the connections. And a good sing-along adds to the experience!
