Citi Sound Vault Live

For music fans, Citi Sound Vault is pretty much the pinnacle: megastar performers from just about every genre stepping away from their posh estates and arena tours to play the sort of up-close-and-personal gigs some of them haven't regularly done for decades. Artists such as Sting, Madonna, Metallica and Eminem have graced the series, and a 2020 Grammys week special continues the tradition by bringing four nights of powerful performers to the Hollywood Palladium. Kicking things off is Coldplay, fresh from the release of their ambitious eighth LP, Everyday Life, followed by Brittany Howard of Alabama Shakes, who dropped her soulful solo debut, Jaime, in 2019, and, on night three, Grammy-winning Americana innovator Brandi Carlile. The grand finale comes courtesy of the Jonas Brothers — those three handsome fellas who first emerged in the '00s and tried out a series of winning spinoff projects in the '10s (see Nick's solo career, Joe's DNCE band and Kevin's reality TV career) before reuniting to runaway success around the dawn of the '20s with their fifth studio album, Happiness Begins.

Citi Sound Vault Background

The ongoing series was born in 2017 when Citibank came to a simple but game-changing epiphany: Why only offer early and exclusive access to concerts other people are organizing when they can curate their very own rare gigs? While the company has brought arena-sized artists — Madonna, Katy Perry, Eddie Vedder — to intimate spaces in New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Philadelphia, it typically takes over the historic Hollywood Palladium around Grammys week for a wild, nearly weeklong run of shows. The 2017 launch, for example, brought Sting, Metallica, Beck (with a gospel choir, no less) and the Chainsmokers (with pyrotechnics, of course) to the old art deco theater which, it should be noted, has a capacity of 3,700. Citi Sound Vault switched things up in 2018 by lighting up Manhattan's Irving Plaza (capacity 1,025) with performances by a diverse group — 30 Seconds to Mars, Eminem, The National, Childish Gambino and Dave Matthews with Tim Reynolds — before returning to the West Coast in early 2019 with P!nk, Muse and Chris Stapleton. As a bonus, Citi had Guns N' Roses bring '80s hair-metal heat to that ornate 1940s venue in the summer.

    Muse at Palladium

by Me on 2/12/19Hollywood Palladium - Hollywood

Doors were suppose to open at 8pm, we were left out in the cold waiting in line until 9pm. We showed up early like we always do, big mistake since we stood in line for an hour and a half. We finally got in around 9:15 and Muse went on at 9:33, so we had little time to use the restroom and get a drink. Muse was awesome although the sound was horrible, maybe that’s why it took them so long to let us in because they were working on soundcheck?

Everything was great except getting in the venue. It took almost two hours for everyone to get inside

    Disappointing Operations

    by c. r. on 2/12/19Hollywood Palladium - Hollywood

I waited in line over 1.5 hours AFTER doors opened because there was a lack of security on the side of the line I was in. We were forced to wait in 40 degree weather to enter the venue because there was 1 metal detector on our side of the line vs. the 4 or 5 set up on the other side. Once we finally got inside, the floor was completely packed and we could hardly navigate inside to get a decent standing spot. This is unacceptable for a Live Nation-backed event and in light of the amount of money I paid to attend this event. I will never attend another show at the Palladium because of this experience. What a joke.

    Keep it coming

    by J. R. on 2/12/19Hollywood Palladium - Hollywood

I hope this becomes a regular thing!! I got a Citi card just for the presale access, and loved the caliber of performers that The Sound Vault provides at such an intimate venue, an experience you’re not likely to have somewhere else. I hope these happen more and more. Thank you for the memories that my new wife and I were able to share!!

    Great show

    by s. g. on 2/12/19Hollywood Palladium - Hollywood

I’m not the biggest fan of standing room only venues and concerts that don’t begin on time. Once the band came on, the show was great.

    Great Experience

    by R. S. on 2/12/19Hollywood Palladium - Hollywood

My wife and I attended both the P!NK and Muse concerts at the Palladium and had a wonderful experience both nights. The staff at the Palladium was friendly and helpful. Plenty of concession options with minimal lines. The sound was great and it didn’t feel too packed for a GA show.

Epic show; not such epic line

The show was fabulous. The line to get into the Palladium was terrible. We waited for over an hour in the cold without knowing there were other options for entering th

    Amazing show!

    by D. T. on 2/12/19Hollywood Palladium - Hollywood

I've seen Muse twice before, but seeing them in the intimacy of The Palladium, standing just a few feet from where they were performing, was incredible. They brought their energy and the audience sang and danced it right back to them. Keep up the good work, Citi Sound Vault!

Band was awesome, Venue was not

by Drew on 2/12/19Hollywood Palladium - Hollywood

Muse gets 5 stars! They were amazing. However, the Hollywood Palladium was awful. It felt like it was the first time they had ever had an event there. It was disorganized and ruined the experience for me. The staff was totally unhelpful, there were three separate lines going around the block, but no one knew what each one was for. Unless you’re 6’4” tall, you’re not going to be able to see anything unless you’re really close.

    Amazing but short

    by C. M. on 2/11/19Hollywood Palladium - Hollywood

P!NK put on an amazing performance but it was only 70 minutes including oncore. I was very disappointed as the venue is general admission with no seats so it is first come first serve. Having a disability and not being able to stand for much of any length, the disabled seating was very limited and also first come first serve so we waited outside the venue for over 6+ hours just to try and get a seat. So the waiting did not compare to the limited show. I doubt I will ever attend a show at this venue again. It is just not worth it when you have a disability.

    P!nk

by Spuds on 2/11/19Hollywood Palladium - Hollywood

Brought my 81 year old mother in her wheelchair and they let us in 1st and were very nice. We were led over to the handicap section and had great seats. Everyone that worked there were so friendly and very kind to my mother. Pink was great! She had so much energy and a great smile and was having fun. She was so funny about not hanging upside down singing certain songs. Only downside was she didn’t play long enough. After 1 hour she stepped off and did 2 encore songs and then left. Felt she could have played longer. Used my parking panda app and got a cheap parking spot across the street. Great night

    P!nk

by SnowDawg on 2/10/19Hollywood Palladium - Hollywood

My wife and i absolutely loved the show and the intimacy offered by seeing P!nk at the venue. She was fantastic both in her performance and the way she engaged with the audience. We definitely would want to go to more of these shows as they offer a chance for both the artist and fan to connect that may be missed in an arena performance.

    Pink was not herself

by Danny on 2/10/19Hollywood Palladium - Hollywood

The show was very underwhelming compared to other pink shows I've been to. The venue made it hard to see. Too many people were at the show. Pink didn't engage. It was bizarre.
