About

Citi Sound Vault Live

For music fans, Citi Sound Vault is pretty much the pinnacle: megastar performers from just about every genre stepping away from their posh estates and arena tours to play the sort of up-close-and-personal gigs some of them haven't regularly done for decades. Artists such as Sting, Madonna, Metallica and Eminem have graced the series, and a 2020 Grammys week special continues the tradition by bringing four nights of powerful performers to the Hollywood Palladium. Kicking things off is Coldplay, fresh from the release of their ambitious eighth LP, Everyday Life, followed by Brittany Howard of Alabama Shakes, who dropped her soulful solo debut, Jaime, in 2019, and, on night three, Grammy-winning Americana innovator Brandi Carlile. The grand finale comes courtesy of the Jonas Brothers — those three handsome fellas who first emerged in the '00s and tried out a series of winning spinoff projects in the '10s (see Nick's solo career, Joe's DNCE band and Kevin's reality TV career) before reuniting to runaway success around the dawn of the '20s with their fifth studio album, Happiness Begins.

Citi Sound Vault Background

The ongoing series was born in 2017 when Citibank came to a simple but game-changing epiphany: Why only offer early and exclusive access to concerts other people are organizing when they can curate their very own rare gigs? While the company has brought arena-sized artists — Madonna, Katy Perry, Eddie Vedder — to intimate spaces in New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Philadelphia, it typically takes over the historic Hollywood Palladium around Grammys week for a wild, nearly weeklong run of shows. The 2017 launch, for example, brought Sting, Metallica, Beck (with a gospel choir, no less) and the Chainsmokers (with pyrotechnics, of course) to the old art deco theater which, it should be noted, has a capacity of 3,700. Citi Sound Vault switched things up in 2018 by lighting up Manhattan's Irving Plaza (capacity 1,025) with performances by a diverse group — 30 Seconds to Mars, Eminem, The National, Childish Gambino and Dave Matthews with Tim Reynolds — before returning to the West Coast in early 2019 with P!nk, Muse and Chris Stapleton. As a bonus, Citi had Guns N' Roses bring '80s hair-metal heat to that ornate 1940s venue in the summer.

Outrageous parking price and late start

    by bowtie0069 on 2/13/19Hollywood Palladium - Hollywood

I bought the tickets for my wife and her friend. They arrived early (7:00) to find parking for the scheduled 8:30 show. Being that it had rained most of the day, they parked in the venues lot to avoid a long walk...$40!! Then they stood in line until after 8:30, when they finally started allowing people to enter for the show that eventually started around 10 P.M. Being that it was a general admission show, it made for a very long time on your feet--as was obvious from people passing out in front of the stage on more than one occasion. They enjoyed the show itself, but not the experience.

    Stapleton Feb. 10

    by C. on 2/13/19Hollywood Palladium - Hollywood

Communication was not good. It was assumed that the show started at 830 pm. The doors finally opened at 840ish. Then waited for another two hours inside the venue. We tried to call the venue and could not get through. Good show though.

    An unforgettable experience

    by A. G. on 2/13/19Hollywood Palladium - Hollywood

We got to the venue at 730 and the line was already wrapped around the building. Thankfully it wasn’t raining yet. They began to let people in just before 8 and it took a good half hour to get in the doors. People generally behaved themselves and waited patiently. We grabbed a great spot just off the side 15 feet away from the stage. The venue had several bars going so I didn’t have to wait to grab a beer. The choices of beers is really horrible. I’d prefer cheaper beer obviously but just a real selection like Guinness or even a lighter generic beer like coors/bud light. Only one merch spot kind of sucked but it moved quickly. They kept the backwoods open to allow some fresh air in the venue so it wasn’t too hot too quickly. Great acoustics and the crowd for the most part was extremely cool and well behaved. We had a little corner where everyone was really respectful of the shorter women and made sure everyone else could see and didn’t let random people cut in front just to get a better view. Muse was amazing. Mostly stuff off of The Resistence and 2nd Law albums. They played for an hour and half instead of the usual 2 hours. They went on about 930. I wish the tickets would’ve gave more info on that. The and seemed to be enjoying themselves and playing stuff not really in heavy rotation and songs they enjoyed playing as opposed to the usuals. My 5th time seeing Muse and being in such an intimate venue was unbelievable.

    Large band, small venue

    by c. t. on 2/12/19Hollywood Palladium - Hollywood

Only the lucky get a ticket to a show like this. Seeing a band that only plays large venues in such an intimate setting with no frills is an experience. It proves what great musicians Muse are.

    Amazing show.

Muse always puts on an amazing show and this was no different. I hope Citi gives it's customers more chances to attend events such as these.
