    Citi Open great Sunday date

by KC2207 on 7/30/14Fitzgerald Tennis Center - Washington

Went to watch the qualifying rounds of the Citi Open on a Sunday afternoon with my boyfriend-- what a fun way to spend a sunny afternoon! It was amazing how close you could get to watch the athletes, and the level of play was high enough to be exciting even though the players weren't the top-ranked seeds. Since tickets to later rounds would have been too expensive for us, this was a great value for money option for supporting local sports!

    Good mid-level tennis tournament

by MajorsFan on 7/30/14Fitzgerald Tennis Center - Washington

Got to see an up and coming 16 y.o. American (Kozlov) play an Australian coming into form (Groth). Two three-set matches; one with Ginepri. Need to cast a wider net for greater pool of players, since the payday is impressive and the location is good.

    Very unorganized!

by Funnygirl5 on 7/29/14Fitzgerald Tennis Center - Washington

This was the first day(qualifying round), so hopefully they worked out the kinks before the official first day. We asked the 2 women at the CtiOpen booth 2 questions and they didn't have a clue about either one (1. Where can we find courts 8&9 for the USTA kids play day here today? & 2. Is there somewhere we can buy sunscreen?). Also, the food was not ready at 12/12:30 and many families had been there since 9:30 for the play day events. Finally, our kids wanted to try the booth where they could clock their serve speed. The first time we were told it should be up & running in about 40 minutes. We came back an hour later and we were told the same thing. When we were leaving at 3:30, there was a long line and there needed to be forms filled out in order to do the activity. The best part was the tennis. Standing only several feet away from some great tennis players and watching them practice was awesome!

    Citi Open 2013

by Beardad105 on 8/13/13Fitzgerald Tennis Center - Washington

Great dubs with Fish and Stepanek losing to Zmonjic and Bennetaeu in some close sets!! Some thrilling shotmaking with Juan Martin Del Potro winning over John Isner.

    Citi open was great

by PAtennisfan on 8/8/13Fitzgerald Tennis Center - Washington

Traveled to the Citi open from PA by driving to the closest Metro station and then grabbing the free shuttle from Van Ness to the site. That was thankfully much easier than I thought it would be! Really enjoyed being so up close to great tennis. We went on USTA day. Was a little disappointed that we didn't get a t shirt or any other freebie, but the ticket prices were cheaper. I will definitely go next year, but will go later in the week to see more highly ranked players. The ability to go to the side courts and see players practicing or watch doubles with the players just feet away was excellent!

Great weather and an exciting tennis match with two top 20 players in the world. Isner didn't play his best, but Del Po showed why he has won a Grand Slam and why he is superior to John Isner in all aspects of the game except serving.

    Cit Open 2013 was enjoyable

by GorillaCousin on 8/7/13Fitzgerald Tennis Center - Washington

For a reasonable price, I was able to watch high level tennis at the Citi Open. I saw the semi-finals of the men's doubles and the semi-finals of the men's singles. The shuttle service from UDC/Van Ness Metro worked well. The atmosphere at the tennis center was pleasant and food/drink reasonably priced. The stadium seating and views were good.

First In Person Professional Tennis Event was Fun

by 1stTimeTennisWatcher on 8/7/13Fitzgerald Tennis Center - Washington

The tennis, when we could watch it between rain drops, was wonderful. We managed to see the entire Women's Doubles final on the Grandstand court. This was a really nice court, where you were quite close to the players. For the second event, the first Men's singles semifinal between John Isner and Dimitry Tursunov, we were able to see only the first set and 3-4 games of the second set, before a long rain delay set in - we ended up going home before the match completed. What tennis we saw was high quality, the venue is really nice - the views were great from any location in the stadium court and in the grandstand court. The shuttle service from the Metro station to/from the event was very convenient as parking was limited. We will definitely go back in future years - hopefully no rain next time - and would recommend this event to others with no reservations.

    World class tennis!

by Kenyameric on 8/7/13Fitzgerald Tennis Center - Washington

I was already a fan of Juan Martin Del Potro and John Isner. The Citi Open was wonderfully entertaining and the weather was fantastic!

Excellent venue at Rock Creek Park, Washington DC. You can see players practice up close, crowds are small, stadium is intimate so you never get "nose-bleed" seating. Each year I get to see a couple top ten players and compared to the US Open or other Grand Slam events you pay less and get more tennis viewing for your money. Awesome event. Because the crowds are low you sit in box seats as many people with season passes do not show. So buy a cheap ticket and move up front. Only time this does not work is for the semis and finals.

    Real Bummer

by John4220 on 8/6/13Fitzgerald Tennis Center - Washington

it rained... we live 3 hours away and this was to be our big night... we saw 5 games of the men's semifinal and the rains came... we waited an hour and the radar looked bad.. since we live three hours away, we decided to leave at 9:10, assuming they would resume it in the morning and maybe we could get a refund.. well, they resumed it two hours later and the women's semi final started at 12:30 AM, ending at 2:10 AM. We just could not do that with a three hour drive. So, we spent $170 for five games ... real bummer.. I presume no refund since they did play the match that night. ...

    semi-final

by tennisdc on 8/6/13Fitzgerald Tennis Center - Washington

Very frustrating with the rain but the situation was unavoidable. Please get a better announcer to do the public announcements about the rain delay, schedule, etc.

    WOW! Great tennis

by Joe410s on 8/6/13Fitzgerald Tennis Center - Washington

Had a great time despite the rain delays. Big John hit an autographed ball right to me in the upper level stands. My wife got to see Tommy Haas play and got her picture taken with her favorite commentator Justin Gimelstob. The Haas and Delpo match was great power and precision shot making. The Marty Fish doubles match was outstanding.

Apart from the rain, the tennis was thrilling. I would recommend that the A/V be improved at the stadium. The echoes made it difficult to hear what the emcee was saying. If it can't be improved, they at least need to play music during every break. The silence was a big letdown after an exciting game.

    Well Organized!

by JoeDC9889 on 8/6/13Fitzgerald Tennis Center - Washington

The Citi Open was extremely well organized. They had free off-site parking with free shuttle buses to the tennis center entrance. Many volunteers provided guidance everywhere. And the tennis matches were spectacular.

This event attracts great tennis players...and lousy staff. Arab Emirates was a lousy sponsor and conveniently ran out of seat cushions for patrons of their restaurant. Their representatives were rude and, frankly, nasty. There was minimal tournament staff on hand to help customers with issues such as double-booked seats, rowdy fans during the match, etc. I've been to other tennis tournaments, including this one in years past, but this year's Citi Open was disgraceful.
