Well worth the price
by Randomuneemu on 7/31/12Fitzgerald Tennis Center - WashingtonMatches took place in the stadium, grandstand 1, and grandstand 2. The stadium was pretty empty. Most people grouped under the shaded seats at the stadium...and the grandstands seemed more crowded for some matches. Quality of tennis was great even though it was only qualifiers. I was happy to see the tournament staff prevent spectators from entering/exiting the courts unless during changeovers or time outs. I recommend trying out different seats if possible. Lower level side seats are good to see spin (but requires a lot of head movement to watch the match) and front row behind the baseline can be pretty exhilarating when a fast serve comes towards you. One problem was it was extremely hot. The lack of a breeze and blazing sun did not help. I could only find one water fountain and it didn't work. Bottled water (drinks and food in general) were expensive. The positive was one stand was giving out free pouch drinks. Without those pouches, I probably would have spent $10 for two one liter bottles of water. Second problem was the rain delay. They don't bother to cover the court so when it rained, it takes a while for them dry the court. Also, they should give an estimate of when the match will resume.
