About

Don't miss the brand new show from Cirque du Soleil, Banana Shpeel, with performance styles inspired by vaudeville, that blends comedy with tap, hip hop, eccentric dance and slapstick, all linked by a hilarious narrative that ignites a succession of wacky adventures.
Propelled by crazy humor and intense choreography, Banana Shpeel plunges us into the world of Schmelky, a brash, ambitious producer who is trying to put together a spectacular variety show. His world is populated with sidekicks, dancers, singers and novelty acts - and a bunch of badly behaved clowns who crash the auditions spreading chaos in all directions.
Banana Shpeel is a limited engagement, and runs through August 29, 2010.

Amazing! This was my first Cirque du Soleil performance, and I will definitely want to see more of their shows in the future. Unforgettable!

    Wonderful show

My family and I loved the show. We really enjoyed the characters portrayed and the theatrics were great too!

I didn't know quite what to expect going into it, but the show was really good and a lot of fun. Some of the acrobatic tricks were jaw dropping and the 2 tap numbers were show stoppers. Also, they did a great job with the costumes and the set. It was very visually appealing.

The show was very Vaudeville-esque. There was comedy, singing, and dancing--along with everything else one would expect from a Cirque Du Soleil show. I definitely recommend seeing it!

    Cirque Du Soleil was awful

by kvdenison on 1/4/10The Chicago Theatre - Chicago

This was terrible. An absolute embarrassment to the Cirque Du Soleil name. I bought tickets for my family as a Christmas present and everyone thought the show was a joke. Would not recommend to anyone.

    Disappointing

by BNIreland on 1/4/10The Chicago Theatre - Chicago

Had expected much better having seen previous Cirque Du Soleil shows. Best elements excellent but overall performance didn't have a great impact.

    Very a-"peel"-ing

by bananashpeelfan on 1/4/10The Chicago Theatre - Chicago

This was my 8th Cirque show and I have to say it was one of my favorites. This show is much different from the traditional Cirque shows in that the acrobatics/contortionists performances were barely existent. The story line was key here and the creators/directors did a FANTASTIC job with the change!!! I would highly recommend this show!

    Fun and contagious

by Frenchie522 on 1/3/10The Chicago Theatre - Chicago

I loved it. I wish there was more circus elements like acrobatics but I still enjoyed it and would see anthor cirque du soleil event.

Very disapointing for a Cirque Du Soleil event!!!!

by Showgoer005 on 1/3/10The Chicago Theatre - Chicago

This was my 5th Cirque Du Soleil show that I have seen and I was extreemly disappointed. I was expecting a spectacular performance and thought this was more of a High School theatical performance. Where was all of the acrobatics that you are well known for??? The ticket price was way too high for where we were sitting, and now I know why the theater was no more than 1/3 full, not worth it!

    Banana Shpeel just okay

by Debbera1 on 1/3/10The Chicago Theatre - Chicago

We have seen numerous different Cirque du Soleils, and have to admit we were disappointed with Banana Shpeel. While we knew it was based on a vaudeville act, we thought that that was the part that seemed so amateurish. The typical Cirque routines were very good, but we thought the comedy routines were very inferior. We paid for front row seats, expecting them to be superior when viewing Cirque routines. Unfortunately we definately over paid. Sorry to be so negative, but we felt the need to be honest.

    Bananaspheel was awful

by nickname212 on 1/3/10The Chicago Theatre - Chicago

The comedy was an the level of a high school production, and a poor one at that. The stunt performers were good, but the overall show was very poor, especially for the price. We saw a Cirque performance in Las Vegas and figured any Cirque Du Soleil show would be great. Boy were we wrong.

    Amazing

by Brrrr38 on 1/3/10The Chicago Theatre - Chicago

I've only seen one other Cirque and I loved it, so I didn't know if they all were great or if that one was a fluke. They must all be great! This show was funny from start to finish. The true review was when I told my wife that it seemed short, it wasn't, it was almost two hours.

    Extremely disappointing

by JpBsD on 1/3/10The Chicago Theatre - Chicago

This was my fourth Cirque show and it was a huge disappointment. It was not at all worth the price of the tickets and, certainly not what we have come to expect from Cirque. We took our children as an introduction to the performances and were embarassed to include this show in the category as the shows we have raved about. I would certainly not recommend the show to anyone who has seen an actual big stage cirque performance.

Not the Cirque I know and Love!!!

by SonyaDelise on 1/3/10The Chicago Theatre - Chicago

This show was quite disappointing. It was not even close to the caliber of any of the other Cirque shows my daughter and I have seen (La Nouba, Mystere, "O", Ka, Kooza, Saltimbanco). I realize the genre was completely different from any other Cirque show and I love dancing and would have enjoyed a show like this but the performances were extremely sloppy (dancers' formations were way off) and almost every performer made glaring mistakes, There wasn't even much to really hold my interest. We paid $150 each for 7 tickets to treat family members for Christmas and I felt like we wasted our money and I felt bad that we chose to give this trip in to Chicago to those family members when we could have spent the money on something they might have enjoyed much more. If this show comes to your town--go see something else!

    The show as OK

by CityMama on 1/3/10The Chicago Theatre - Chicago

I have been to many events by Cirque Du Sloleil and I have loved them all. I always recommend Cirque Du Soleil until now. The show was OK. The dancing was pretty good, and the three acts were good, but their was to much of the slap stick comedy, and I don't think it was that funny. Sorry.

The show was fun to watch but I wished there was more accrobatics. Chicago Theater was beautiful. Seats were excellent.

very disappointed - especially after seeing Cirque Du Soleil in Vegas - The theater was excellent and so were the people working there. Very friendly, nice setting but the show left me feeling flat.

    Banana Shpeel just okay!

by ChloeIsabelle on 1/3/10The Chicago Theatre - Chicago

Banana Spheel was surely lacking the WOW-factor you have come to expect with any Cirque du Soleil show. The show was fun and the dancers were very nice. It was colorful, however the comedy segment went on way to long and was a bit corny, but amusing at other times. There were only 3-type circus acts, with a whole lot of dancing and goofing off..... Cirque de Soleil took my breath away years ago and I have been a fan ever since, spreading the word to everyone who would listen..... I read the reviews about bringing back comedy and some other original aspects of the show, so I was VERY much looking forward to this outing..... however, sad to say, I came back extremely dissappointed!!!

    Must see...

by Pottersfamily on 1/3/10The Chicago Theatre - Chicago

It is an excellent event. Any age friendly. You laugh a lot and also enjoy amazing tap dance. I would watch again if I had a chance.
