About

Don't miss the brand new show from Cirque du Soleil, Banana Shpeel, with performance styles inspired by vaudeville, that blends comedy with tap, hip hop, eccentric dance and slapstick, all linked by a hilarious narrative that ignites a succession of wacky adventures.
Propelled by crazy humor and intense choreography, Banana Shpeel plunges us into the world of Schmelky, a brash, ambitious producer who is trying to put together a spectacular variety show. His world is populated with sidekicks, dancers, singers and novelty acts - and a bunch of badly behaved clowns who crash the auditions spreading chaos in all directions.
Banana Shpeel is a limited engagement, and runs through August 29, 2010.

Banana Scheel has a different apeel!

by Cirquish1 on 11/20/09The Chicago Theatre - Chicago

True to it's billing, the performance gave me laughs but mostly smiles; kept my interest but not with "Cirque-ish" awe. Overall great dance, 3 excellent acrobatic performances and fun... Just leave your "Cirque" orientation in the Lobby as you enter a whole 'nother time- gone-by entertainment experience!

Only a couple of the acrobatic dances in the second part were great. Otherwise, quite chaotic, bad jokes, bad style-- such a disappointment!

    Disappointed

by Moonmist on 11/20/09The Chicago Theatre - Chicago

I'm sad to say that this is the 2nd Cirque show that disappointed me. The tap dancing was fantastic, the 3 real acts were awesome; that said, the clown time was too much, the joke was done to death, certain jokes (i.e. birthing) doesn't has to be shown, but they went there. The quality of actors/clowns were good on their own, but doing the same schtick over and over is not enhancing the show, it's beating a dead horse. I'm disappointed.

    What the heck was that?

by JakeLingle on 11/20/09The Chicago Theatre - Chicago

Lots of hype and flash, but no cohesive show here. Juggling, amazing tap dancing, specialty acts - that restraunt thing was dismally long - but disjointed and no overalll vision, if you will. 2 hours and 15 minutes. Great band - killer band - and finale! But I just didn't get it. It will be a hard sell to traditional theatre goers. It seemed to be filled with Cirque groupies and family memberrs of the cast - otherwise how do you account for thunderous cheers and applause as an act commences? However, the worst is the staff at the theatre, There is obviously a VIP area on the mezzanine - we had a box! It is protected like the presdent and the entire cabinet were there. The Ushers were plain out rude saying: "Your bar is over there (downsatirs); this is the VIP area." And not in a friendly way! Bartender on main floor near Lake Street doors was fabulous and acknowledged there was an attitude among Ushers and their VIP-ing task. Lose the attitude ushers. Your gonna be lucky the show stays open once it's reviewed officially.

    Not what I expected

by vnc113 on 11/20/09The Chicago Theatre - Chicago

The show was entertaining, but definitely not what I expected for my first "Cirque du Soleil" show.....kind of disappointing! Where were all of the acrobatics?? With the Cirque name, I was expecting more...
