About

Winston Churchill has just been awarded honorary US citizenship by President John F. Kennedy. In recognition of this unprecedented occasion, The American-Oxford Society has asked the former Prime Minister to address them and discuss what this honor means to him.

In this often funny, sometimes touching and always engaging one-man-show... veteran British actor, David Payne brings Churchill to life onstage. Audiences will be delighted to hear of his exploits during the Boer War, his constant battles with Britain's fellow politicians, and his special relationship with America and America's presidents. But most telling of all, Churchill enlightens the audience with intimate and touching details of the two special women in his life--his wife Clementine and Queen Elizabeth.

With elements of The Crown and The Darkest Hour, David Payne once again gives audiences an opportunity to spend an evening with one of the greatest historical figures in the world--Sir Winston Churchill.

  • Great Actor, could use more media in the show.

by Mike K on 11/6/25Capital One Hall - TysonsRating: 4 out of 5

The actor was captivating in telling stories about the life of Winston Churchill. He was funny and engaging. I thought the show would be improved with more old photos, etc. for some of the famous people and places that came up in the stories. But overall, a very nice time, and I'm looking forward to an announced sequel that will pair Churchill with FDR.

  • Churchill exactly how I imagined him

David Payne was magnificent. His delivery as Churchill was melodic and engaging. We can't wait to see his next play next year! Loved Capital One Hall, no nonsense and great staff to help get us to our seats. Beautiful venue and the acoustics were amazing!

  • Interesting and well done

by DeLane on 10/22/25The Walker Theatre - ChattanoogaRating: 5 out of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed the presentation. It was interspersed with enough humor to keep you smiling. The performer did an excellent job of capturing the character of Churchill, right down to the cigar. We learned many things about Churchill’s family and time in Parliament that we did not know. We would have liked to have heard more about World War ll.

I was afraid it might be dry or boring. Instead, my wife and I had smiles on our faces the whole time. David Payne is a wonderful story teller. Great history review, good lessons for the youngsters. You will not be disappointed unless you are addicted to cell phones. Sit back, relax, and enjoy.
