About

Christopher Cross made history when his debut self-titled album was released in 1980.  The album featured the international hit songs Sailing, Run Like the Wind and Never Be The Same. It went on to win five Grammy Awards, including—for the first time ever—the four most prestigious awards: Record of the Year (for the single “Sailing”), Album of the Year, Song of the Year (also for “Sailing”), and Best New Artist.  An extraordinary song writer, Cross wrote all these songs and another of the most famous songs of the time - “Arthurs Theme (The best that you can do)” which he co-wrote with Burt Bacharach & Peter Allen and featured in the film Arthur that starred Liza Minelli and Dudley Moore.    Arthur’s Theme won the 1981 Academy Award for Best Original Song.

Christopher Cross has also worked with some music greats and shared the stage with some music icons – from Mike McDonald – who sang backing vocals on Ride Like The Wind through to singing backing vocals with Carl Wilson on David Lee Roth’s version of California Girls.

Early in his career Christopher Cross and his band were the opening band for Led Zeppelin and Jethro Tull whilst in 1970 he subbed in for Ritchie Blackmore from Deep Purple for a show in San Antonio.

Thirty years since his stellar debut into the music business, Cross continues recording and touring across the nation, stopping at venues such as the Depot (Salt Lake City). He has released multiple albums and continued to contribute to film and tv soundtracks – including shows such as 30 Rock (he wrote Lemon’s Theme for the soundtrack).

His most recent album, Secret Ladder was released in 2014. The 13 track album, influenced by the likes of Joni Mitchell and Randy Newman, was written mostly with Rob Meurer and again Cross has worked with the finest musicians including bassist Will Lee (of the Fab Faux and Late Night with David Letterman), drummer Keith Carlock (Steely Dan and Toto), guitarist Eric Johnson, saxophonist David Mann, and vocalists Michael McDonald and Jeff Foskett (Brian Wilson’s musical director.

  • Little River Band, Christopher Cross and Kalapana

    by 808gal on 7/15/15Waikiki Shell - HonoluluRating: 4 out of 5

I think Kalapana's music is timeless! And Little River Band really got the crowd going with their hits, also timeless, and audience participation! After all that Christopher Cross was a little disappointing. He hardly had any rapport with the audience and his songs slowed the pace down considerably.

Kalapana great Little river band totally awesome Christopher Cross boring left after 4th song wasn't worth the money I paid very disappointing

Very relaxing night under the stars with 3 exceptional bands

  • Dissapointed

by Veekz on 7/14/15Waikiki Shell - HonoluluRating: 2 out of 5

Kalapana did not sound like they had it all together. The sax needed more volume. The sound was not balanced and the group needs to work on performing together. They sounded like a broken band. On the other hand, Little River Band was awesome. I wasn't expecting them to bring it like they did, but I was well impressed. I just wish they would've played more rockin' songs. They went into a Led Zeppelin song and then cut it. The crowd wanted more of that. Cristopher Cross is very talented, but played too many new songs that no one knew. Plus all his songs have the same sound and kind of put you to sleep. Not very good when you're the last (not to mention headliner) set and it's getting late. People starting leaving about 4 to 5 songs into his set as so did my party. ANOTHER THING...THE SPEAKERS IN THE GRASS SECTION BY THE MIDDLE RIGHT SOUND BLOWN. DISTORTION IS NOT WHAT I PAYED TO HEAR AT A LIVE MUSIC VENUE. I COULD LISTEN TO BETTER SOUND IN MY CAR OR AT HOME. THE SHELL NEEDS TO FIX THEIR EQUIPMENT AND HAVE BETTER SOUND TECHNICIANS TO GIVE THE PEOPLE ULTIMATE QUALITY ESPECIALLY WHEN PAYING SUCH HIGH PRICES FOR TICKETS. OVERALL....BOO!!!

  • Enjoy the Memories

by KDMHAWAII on 7/14/15Waikiki Shell - HonoluluRating: 4 out of 5

This concert was a pleasant and very enjoyable journey to a previous time. The songs were familiar and well performed yet had a dynamic quality that made the music alive and vibrant. The LRB was the standout performance by far! They generated a level of energy that was unexpected. Christopher Cross's hits were great but his performance squandered the enthusiasm created by the LRB - the audience began to melt away as he insisted on playing successive newer release songs that very very few recognized or really cared about. This concert is SOLELY about the hits - play them more than once or extend their playtime but DROP the new songs - they are not why the audience paid to see this concert.

  • Little River Band and Kalapana Were Awesome

LRB and Kalapana had the house rocking. Christopher Cross was ok but he's not really a great showman.

  • Classic Rock Rocked!

by NoeK on 7/14/15Waikiki Shell - HonoluluRating: 5 out of 5

The concert was awesome. It started with Kalapana then LRB and finally CC. Loved hearing all the old songs and some of the new. Perfect venue, especially on a hot muggy evening.

  • Classic Rock Festival was "the bomb"!

by KarenLeeJoanne on 7/14/15Waikiki Shell - HonoluluRating: 5 out of 5

Probably the best concert this year! Haven't seen Kalapana in decades. Sax player was awesome. Little River Band took us back to the late 70's. Music was great. Cristopher Cross was great. Loved listening to all the oldies.

  • Christopher Cross and the Band were awesome!!

by Highjinxs on 5/18/15Gordie Brown Showroom at the Golden Nugget - Las VegasRating: 5 out of 5

Christopher Cross and the Bands performance was right on with its mix of new songs as well as their classic hits. The band was a tight knit group in their professional musicianship. The smaller venue lent itself well to the sound and close proximity to the band. Christopher Cross never sounded better with his voice quality and range.

Fantastic show. Christopher Cross really interacts with the audience and everyone really seemed to enjoy the show if you knew his songs or not. I would highly recomend going to see him!

  • More Entertaining Than Expected

    by hemanish on 5/19/14Snoqualmie Casino-Ballroom - SnoqualmieRating: 5 out of 5

All the hits and he took the time to be personable and tell some short stories. Excellent music - great musicians including Christopher - I didn't know he was such an accomplished guitar player. Backup vocals were also great. Some newer material was also played. Very professional and no profanities - a real plus.

I love the way he got personal with telling stories about the songs and his life.

  • An Intimate Evening with Christopher Cross

    by areasmith on 5/18/14Snoqualmie Casino-Ballroom - SnoqualmieRating: 4 out of 5

Thirty-some years later and Christopher Cross still sounds good. He can't hold the high notes for long but his voice is amazingly clear. He also had two talented female back up vocalists who helped with the singing, particularly on a couple of duets. It wasn't a loud concert and the audience was sitting the whole time which wasn't a problem, just an observation. Cross did perform all of his main hits including a great rendition of Think of Laura which, from the sounds of it, he doesn't play often. The filler songs were okay but didn't stand out. Cross was funny and had great stories to lead into several of the songs. Not the best concert I've been to but for the low price of the tickets and the excellent seats it's worth seeing Cross at least once in concert.

  • Even better after all these years

    by jrtvguy on 5/18/14Snoqualmie Casino-Ballroom - SnoqualmieRating: 5 out of 5

Christopher Cross is such a great performer but even more, a gentleman. He put together an amazing cast of so very talented performers and gave each of them a spotlight. So if it was nostalgia, he nailed it, if it were musical talent, he nailed it. If it were a most enjoyable evening, he really nailed it - great time - Many thanks.

  • Christopher Cross was amazing!

  • Swept Away

    by Sparky80 on 4/10/14Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

This was the third time we have seen Christopher Cross, but the first at Birchmere. He's always good and always has great musicians with him. The only minor disappointment was that he didn't do "Think of Laura" or "Avalon, two of our favorites.
