Christopher Cross made history when his debut self-titled album was released in 1980. The album featured the international hit songs Sailing, Run Like the Wind and Never Be The Same. It went on to win five Grammy Awards, including—for the first time ever—the four most prestigious awards: Record of the Year (for the single “Sailing”), Album of the Year, Song of the Year (also for “Sailing”), and Best New Artist. An extraordinary song writer, Cross wrote all these songs and another of the most famous songs of the time - “Arthurs Theme (The best that you can do)” which he co-wrote with Burt Bacharach & Peter Allen and featured in the film Arthur that starred Liza Minelli and Dudley Moore. Arthur’s Theme won the 1981 Academy Award for Best Original Song.
Christopher Cross has also worked with some music greats and shared the stage with some music icons – from Mike McDonald – who sang backing vocals on Ride Like The Wind through to singing backing vocals with Carl Wilson on David Lee Roth’s version of California Girls.
Early in his career Christopher Cross and his band were the opening band for Led Zeppelin and Jethro Tull whilst in 1970 he subbed in for Ritchie Blackmore from Deep Purple for a show in San Antonio.
Thirty years since his stellar debut into the music business, Cross continues recording and touring across the nation, stopping at venues such as the Depot (Salt Lake City). He has released multiple albums and continued to contribute to film and tv soundtracks – including shows such as 30 Rock (he wrote Lemon’s Theme for the soundtrack).
His most recent album, Secret Ladder was released in 2014. The 13 track album, influenced by the likes of Joni Mitchell and Randy Newman, was written mostly with Rob Meurer and again Cross has worked with the finest musicians including bassist Will Lee (of the Fab Faux and Late Night with David Letterman), drummer Keith Carlock (Steely Dan and Toto), guitarist Eric Johnson, saxophonist David Mann, and vocalists Michael McDonald and Jeff Foskett (Brian Wilson’s musical director.
Really laid back. Played almost all of his hits and some new ones that I had never heard. I came away liking some more of his music.
Christopher Cross delivered a superb concert, still showing us that that his trademark voice and musicianship have not skipped a beat. His set list was excellent, mixing in new songs with virtually all of his hits. He justifiably earned two standing ovations by a sold-out house.
Christopher was just as good as ever! Truly enjoyed the evening. Don't miss a chance to see him live! And he's funny as well. He does his hit "Sailing" early in the show, so don't be late!! ;)
We weren't sure about this show After it began we couldn't have been happier. Great band, backup singers and of course Christopher Cross. See this show, it is so worth it!!!
A true entertainer with his music and wit. He sounds jus as good as he did in the 80’s. The acoustics of the Bijou are second only to the Ryman in Nashville. Great night!
It was a really good concert! It gave a 4 because the sound system was off. Sometimes the music was too loud and could not hear Cross’s voice. Other times when he was talking it was not clear.
Loved the intimate setting of the Bijou. Super excited we were on 2nd row. Christopher Cross sounded just like his albums! Beautiful. His band members were all excellent performers and his lady backup singers were a delight! It was just a cool night!
Everyone did their job and put on a professional show!
I was expecting a Chicago or EW&F type experience with strong sound and ties to the past. When 75% of the opening song was performed by the backup singers, I knew we were in trouble. No energy, garbled vocals, and didn’t even sing one of his 5 hits. It’s tie for him to either find some energy and love for what he’s doing, or play for, private parties.
Enjoyed the performance very much! Went with college girlfriends. We had a ball. CC did not disappoint!
I knew we were going see a talent with some major hits from the past. What blew me away was his band and back up singers. So much talent in the world we rarely see behind the stars. But Christopher spotlighted their talents beautifully in the show. I honestly enjoyed his new music as much if not more than the classics. I also appreciated a couple of new arrangements to his hits. Great show
The band of great one of the better concerts I’ve been to the sounds was spot on they sound really good
So Chris really had a good show. And while I didn’t care for revised versions of 2 songs. He was still amazing! His band was incredible with Andy Suzuki accompanying him.
Mr Cross meant our expectations. We expected to hear a voice of days gone by. A few tunes that sounded very similar as they did years ago. A few new that was good as well. Overall the atmosphere was enjoyable and time well spent!
always love to listen to christopher Cross music. My husband and I decided to wathched him and we were not disappointed.Wonderful voice ,it never changed. He sang most of our favorites. There is no bad seat in this venue.
I really like the venue . Even though I had the standing room only.. I was surprised that it was only an hour and little bit. I know that he has a large repertoire of music that he has written and he could have sung. I would have enjoyed it. Just surprised is all.....
Show was excellent - both he and his band sound great. Highly recommend his show.
This was my first Christopher Cross concert and honestly I knew it would be great and it was. I had the best time. He gave an awesome performance and I would definitely see him again.
Alot of Christopher Cross music is more jazz nowadays; however, he did play some old tunes like "sailing" & "ride like the wind"....great to hear music of old!! Recommend if you get the opportunity to see Cross, go for it...he is worth it!!
The concert was like the song sailing. It sailed along super quick, about 1 hour 10 minutes. He sang his greatest hits, all seats were fantastic, and it was a very memorable night.
