Exceeded my highest of expectation. Absolutely phenomenal performance by both Chris Thile and Aioffe O’Donovan! Must see them together again!
What a show! One person playing one instrument and keeping you mesmerized for nearly two hours is so very rare — but Chris Thile did just that. We'll never miss him again. Of course, the acoustics in Symphony Hall were perfect. A+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
If you ever get the chance to see Chris, you need to take it. His performances are electrifying.
Chris Thile brilliantly takes the audience on a musical journey through the mandolin! He's mind-blowing and incredible on the mandolin and it's hard to tell where one ends and the other begins.
So fantastic to be part of a live audience at Carolina Theatre! Chris Thile was also so excited and grateful to be performing. He is wild and crazy, but so very talented and full of energy - loved every minute!
Chris is a phenomenal mandolin player!! He has a good voice and played for 1 1/2 hrs. so fingers of steel! Loved his Bob Dylan piece and the spoof number about communication on Thanksgiving 2016. I would have liked to hear him play more of a bluegrass sound. As it was, most of his music is a bit quirky and not a style I’m accustomed to. However, he has great musical ability!
Truly unbelievable. I would never want to trade all the other amazing collaborative Thile experiences I've had (Nickel Creek, Punch Brothers, with Mehldau), but this one stood out as level beyond those already extraordinary ones. A perfect blend of artistry, creativity, humor, entertainment, and deep emotional connection between the audience and the performer.
I had the pleasure of attending the Chris Thile show at Brown County Music Center. As always, Chris did not disappoint. He is simply the best out there and his new music is a masterful collection of extraordinary compositions. His playing was flawless. He moved through the set and connected with the audience with heartfelt musings about recent times and his joy in performing again. The encore was amazing with his rendition of Toxic! He is genuinely one of a kind. The venue was ideal for this one man show. A simply perfect evening.
First, Bethel is just an absolutely gorgeous venue. I have seen concerts outside, but the smaller event room was perfect for this experience. The intimacy of the space, coupled with the lighting, and the sound (OMG, the sound!) was just perfect. Chris Thile was unbelievable. He's such an overall amazing talent. My mom, who isn't a fan, and doesn't love music nearly as much as I do, thoroughly enjoyed the show. She said it best: "He's a musician, a storyteller, and a comedian." Really, he was. I had chills while he played, laughed a lot, and was smiling throughout the show. I would 100% see him again in any capacity, because he is just that amazingly talented.
This was my first show ever at the event gallery at Bethel Woods. The architecture is gorgeous. Chris noted that it was the first time he ever played in a 9-sided room. As usual, Chris Thile knocked our proverbial socks off. (Sorry for ending that sentence with a preposition, but it fits.) Whether he was playing a Bach partita, or singing a Punch Brothers tune ("My Oh My", "Rye Whiskey", even a solo version of "Movement and Location"!), or the haunting Josh Ritter song, "Another New World", Chris kept his audience engaged with banter (but not too much) and excellent mandolin playing and singing. He was energetic, as always, never really standing still, and using his feet for percussion at times. The crowd definitely had a great time, which proves that Chris not only shines as a collaborator, but as a solo artist as well.
Wonderful setting for a great concert! Very different from most concerts I have attended. Chris Thiele is in a class by himself. His music on the mandolin was very entertaining, as was his commentary.
I knew Chris Thile was an excellent musician and I expected that. What I didn’t count on was a truly amazing band, great comedy from the staff players and Neal Brennan. Bonus music from David Rawlings with Gillian Welch! Fantastic show and the Ryman can’t be beat!
Tickets for this were somewhat expensive, but they were completely worth it! It was the best show I've ever seen.
What a great event! Chris Thule is perfect as the host for this show. He is truly passionate about the artists and making the show personal to the city and venue. Loved it and would highly recommend to see, this show if it comes to your town.
There are no bad seats at the Ryman. The show contained a wide range of music and comedy. The stained glass windows at the back of the auditorium were cool, as the sun came out during the show and lit the stage with a mixture of artificial and natural light.
I was always a fan of "A Prairie Home Companion" but I have to say, "Live from Here" is a very worthy replacement. Chris Thile is a great host and the musicianship from Chris and ALL of the guests was outstanding. If you get a chance to see "Live from Here" it is well worth it.
Getting in and out of the event was fine. Do not carry a pocket knife. Chris is a very enthusiastic performer. He cares about his audience and his fellow performers. One of his bands seemed to be a hard rock group. Not good. He is a young man who draws a young crowd. The music was not of my age or my preferred genre. So I was out of place. His comedian was not funny unless you enjoyed bashing our current President, the South and America. Much of the crowd did enjoy him, I was very much out of sync with them. There where many of us who walked out. The story telling I used to enjoy was still there but Chris was not part of it. It was weak at best. He was music only. I would check out Chris's music before you attend. Do not expect the the old Home Prairie Companion.
What an absolutely wonderful evening of super-musicians & music!! So relaxing and enjoyable ..... soothing for my soul .... BRING BACK Live From Here with Chris Thile again soon!!
This was a great show. Funny, great music, great personalities--what more could you ask for to be entertained. Chris is a great host. Very talented and has a very unique personality and presence. For music, you can't get much better than Dave Rawlings, Gillian Welch and Willie Watson. Love living close to Nashville. You just never know who is going to show up!
Chris Thile is a true showman. Such a great variety of music and artists. I would go to eveyone of these shows if I could afford it! NPR has finally passed the torch to my generation and created a gem of entertainment.
