CHON IN CONCERT:

Prog rockers Chon marry impressive musicianship to bouncy grooves, promising ticket buyers a live-wire concert experience that's both exciting and intriguingly heady. Six-string shredders Erick Hansel and Mario Camarena take a dizzying tag team approach to their guitars, winding through intricate melodies and jazzy harmonies on standouts like ìDewî, ìFluffyî, and ìBubble Dreamî. Mesmerized ticket buyers canít help but sway in time with the groupís nimble rhythm section, whose booming back beats and complex polyrhythms provide a syncopated backdrop for each instrumental. As Chon pushes the boundaries of prog rock, audiences get to witness guitar virtuosity, creative rhythms, and beautiful harmonies that are just as capable of blowing minds as they are of getting bodies grooving.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

While some Southern California teens spend their young lives obsessed with surfing and punk rock, the members Chon spent their days mastering rock instrumentals and learning to melt faces with their impressive chops. The San Diego-based math rockers began working on a self-titled demo in 2008 while playing the local emo and hardcore scene. After a two-year hiatus the young quartet regrouped and released the 2013 EP Newborn Sun. The following year they issued their debut album Grow before touring in support of bands like Circa Survive and Animal as Leaders. The exposure prepared them to undertake their first US headlining tour in 2016, with supporting acts Polyphia and Strawberry Girls. Word  continues to spread about the electrifying energy that Chon bring to the stage and fans canít wait to witness their astonishing technique in the flesh.

Chon is even better live than on recordings and they make you move the whole time. The crowd was energetic and 10/10.

    Incredible night

    by Proghead125 on 6/8/18The Underground - Charlotte

A night filled with crowd surfing, mosh pits and great music. Unlike other venues, I felt safe and respected by the security, and the staff is made up of just good people.

    An amazing lineup

by Scrub7 on 6/6/18House of Blues Orlando - Orlando

All three bands killed this show, I was pleasantly surprised and the energy of the crowd was equally as fun. Very obviously everyone was having a good time.

Tricot, TTNG, and Polyphia weren't opening acts!

by LewisV on 6/6/18House of Blues Orlando - Orlando

I never would have imagined that the "Opening Acts" would have enraptured me quite so much as they did. By the time Chon actually came up, the entire crowd was starting to get ready for the night to end, and Chon sent us all off with a bang! It was amazing!

Chon and Polyphia were SUPER, bros!!!

by RockOn2112 on 6/4/18House of Blues Houston presented by Cricket Wireless - Houston

One of the best shows I have ever experienced! (and I've been a concert-go'er since the '70s) All four bands were great! Chon was totally amazing, talented, and their light show and visuals were spot on perfect with their awesome tunes! Chon is awesome! Polyphia impressed me the most, with their incredible energy and talent. They have that rare chemistry which words cannot describe...they groove! Super-mega talented! Chon and Polyphia are two of my teenage son's major musical inspirations, and this concert made me appreciate why! Thanks!

Best concert experience I've ever had in my life!

by Sphendrana on 6/3/18House of Blues New Orleans - New Orleans

The line up surprised me as Tricot came in first and Wowee they politely murdered my ears. Hiromi went ham on that bass, I couldn't get enough! Then TTNG came on and I hadn't heard them before, and they were absolutely amazing. I'm definitely a fan now. Polyphia was hilarious with their into/walk off stage skit, and rocked the house down that night. They started crowd surfing and mosh pits up and got us primed for Chon. When they finally came on, the whole room's energy changed. Would it be fair to say Chon has some of the best fans ever? Never been in a mosh pit until that night and it was super fun and friendly. If I had a way to go back in time, I'd set myself up in an infinite loop for that night. And this was also my first time seeing everyone of these bands live. Both their recorded sound and live sound are amazingly beautiful, I can't vouch for that enough! If you haven't been to any of their live shows you are missing out!

the line up should have been different.

by Anonymous on 5/28/18House of Blues San Diego - San Diego

I feel that the show would have been better if the order was different. i know chon was headlining it but the came out with no energy. It should have been Chon, TTNG, Tricot and Polyphia headlining it based off the energy the bands came out with.

    Chon gave me choninitis

by MattAttaq on 9/25/17Deluxe at Old National Centre - Indianapolis

Fall of Troy killed it, Chon gave me a rare disability where I try sick arpeggios compulsively on inanimate objects. It's a real condition XD. As for the venue, as long as you don't feel like drinking this venue is awesome!

Chon and Polyphia were amazing (especially Chon)

by Anonymous on 4/6/16The Sinclair - Cambridge

Chon are on an entirely different planet than anything else I've seen or heard from a band. They are an instrumental, rock-based band but combine elements of progressive metal, and jazz to create something completely fresh. And they are unfathomably great live. Polyphia was a great opener. They are an amazing live band as well, showing off technical but super-catchy guitar-driven instrumental prowess that harkens back to the '80s, with modern polish. If you like catchy, interesting, fresh rock music you should definitely check out these bands! (especially Chon)

It was my first time at the Sinclaire in Cambridge and my second time seeing Chon and it was fantastic. It was a perfect night because of the band and the venue. It's on the small side so it is an up close and personal experience. Also, these guys seriously shred

    Chon is a party!

by Diclark on 4/4/16Music Hall of Williamsburg - Brooklyn

Having listened to Chon numerous times and watched a bunch of their videos, I knew I was in for some high quality music, but they straight up blew me away. Even the openers, strawberry girls and polyphia, brought as much musical force as did Chon. will not be missing another chon or polyphia show again!
