    by Daisy6 on 10/21/16AMC Theatres - River East 21 - Chicago

A touching and insightful look at the life of Homaro Cantu. This is a must see not only for those in the culinary world, but anyone in the work force, especially those with an extremely inquisitve mind.

Abacus: Could be the best documentary of the year

by FrancisF on 10/21/16AMC Theatres - River East 21 - Chicago

This has to be one of the best documentaries of the year. Not a subject matter that I thought would interest me but the director really showed how important the story was and the wonderful family behind it all. Just like "The Big Short", this documentary takes the obscure subject matter of the loan crisis and makes it accessible - and the human story behind it. I loved the Sung family! And this movie let you get close to them and understand the scandal of the abuse of power they faced. Oscarworthy - you can count on it!

    Futures Past

by grainny on 10/21/16AMC Theatres - River East 21 - Chicago

Very interesting Documentary with a personal touch of father and son drama The end of open outcry trading to someone in Chicago is a big event. The grain and the pork belly markets were always a 'must see' when visitors came here. Jordan Melamed's movie brought all the excitement of that era to the screen; and the sad day that it closed was also present in the film. The father /son relationship was shown bravely and candidly, and was an interesting back story to the trading pits. The personal insights from the former traders and the computer takeover was very dramatic and poignant

    Futures past

by Connortime on 10/21/16AMC Theatres - River East 21 - Chicago

Jordan should not have edited out the parts where he is arguing Back with his Father Leo! This would have made this a 5 Star film! He should put those scenes back in!!!

    King of Jazz

by Spiffykitchen on 10/19/16AMC Theatres - River East 21 - Chicago

I thought this movie had a wealth of wonderful moments all accompanied by gorgious art deco sets and costumes and enhanced by a first rate restoration. Early two-strip technicolor was used quite dramatically with strong lighting, costumes and set colors so that the missing hues to expect of Bing Crosby, Whiteman and the others. But was still very impressed with this presentation and how it offered a greater sense of depth and comedic moments. A job well done by all - highly recommended.

Paris 5:59 ... sweet and savory

by Eaulala on 10/19/16AMC Theatres - River East 21 - Chicago

The erotic beginning of Paris 5:59 served to get me out of my head and make me vulnerable to what was to come....the perfect strategy...There was a mixture of reality and truth during the remainder of the their evening and maybe most importantly a healthy dose of romance...just enough to satisfy me so much as a moviegoer. The filmmaker anticipated my thinking and I love that.

    Still wonderful after 50 years!

by AnnKeith on 10/18/16AMC Theatres - River East 21 - Chicago

"A Man and a Woman" is as great as it was when it came out in 1966. A beautiful story that is timeless.........and it is so very French. By that I mean, it looks as though it could have been filmed yesterday. No 'fashion victim' clothing, etc. GREAT MOVIE!!!

    Over priced

by capiscione on 10/18/16AMC Theatres - River East 21 - Chicago

The CIFF is an over priced event that charges more than double what a non film festival film costs. Not a good value...and when you factor in Ticketmaster's fee, that will be the last time for me. As for the film...At 131 minutes it could have used some major editing. Characters were introduced and never developed and yet showed up again in completely unbelievable scenes. How many times do we need to see examples of how the mother's death affected his life? The whole scene in Bosnia was unnecessary. It was clear what happened to his mother at the beginning of the film and the clue left in the book was obvious, to have to wait until the end for him to discover the truth was a bore. The only redeeming quality of the movie for me was the language.

    A Great Surprise

by LouieGC on 10/17/16AMC Theatres - River East 21 - Chicago

Wonderful historical movie about the demise of the trading pits in Chicago, capturing the intrigue of the pits as technology overtakes them, with a parallel story of the growth of a very tenuous relationship between father and son.

    Ina is touching and inspiring!

by PattiRams on 11/5/15AMC Theatres - River East 21 - Chicago

What a joyful tribute to a remarkable woman, and to the resilience that lights the best in us. Ina fed body and soul at her wonderful name-sake restaurant. Now, with the skillful scripting, photography and editing of Mercedes and Sangoon, Ina's dynamism, commitment to great food, and warm hospitality show through every minute of the film. And Ina's back story makes the story even richer. Be sure to see it.

    Best Movie Ever!!

by LisaLightning on 11/4/15AMC Theatres - River East 21 - Chicago

Michael Moore has outdone himself, and just in time for the upcoming elections. He loves America enough to want to save us from ourselves. It's funny, poignant, scary, enlightening, just everything you need from a documentary. I thought I knew a lot about other countries but I learned so much! If everyone watched this movie the country would get better, because we'd know enough to demand it!

    Well Done and Engaging Film

    by Popcorn1000 on 10/27/15AMC Theatres - River East 21 - Chicago

the 33 was well done and engaging. A fascinating true story that shows how perseverance by the minors, the families, and the lone government advocate saved these men from death. Wonderful filming, music and acting.

Riveting Portrait of a Talented, Enigmatic Artist

by mareschultz on 10/27/15AMC Theatres - River East 21 - Chicago

This film follows its subject, singer-songwriter Syl Johnson, from his family's farm fields in Mississippi to the record studios and blues venues of Chicago. It shows how he came a hair's breadth from fame and fortune only to watch his career fade into the shadows cast by another performer more actively promoted by the record company. In recent years his music has been sampled hundreds of times by everyone from Kid Rock to Michael Jackson to Wu Tang Clan. At almost 80 years of age, Syl is out there performing to sold out crowds again. As he says, "I still have it. I never lost it." And truthfully, he really does! The film does an excellent job of capturing the dynamism of Syl's personality, his unwavering drive to attain his goals, and also the mercurial temperament that contributed to the ups and downs of his career and his relationships. I found this documentary to be honest, somewhat gritty, energetic and entertaining. The interviews with the man himself and the clips of his music really made the film. Everything flowed and there was not one second in which I lost interest. Definitely a must-see!

The long-haul that didn't quite reach its end

by TheIzzz on 10/25/15AMC Theatres - River East 21 - Chicago

While Roth certainly gave a good taste of "good cop" with a little sense of" bad cop", the story was cut short by that very same "bad cop" persona. The faint connection between Roth's and Ferrer's characters almost made for a harrowing tale, but the end dashed even that slightest bit of hope completely by the wayside.
