The Chemical Brothers on Tour
Tom Rowlands and Ed Simons have reigned supreme in the dance music world for more than two decades, and their live shows just keep getting better as time goes on. Pairing eye-popping visuals and special guests such as dancers and robots with their massive dance hits, a Chemical Brothers show proves they're one of dance music's premier acts, with expertly mixed sets that keep the crowds moving and visuals that keep all the senses entertained. The duo has played major festivals around the world, and those large-scale venues seem to be pushing their live-show ambitions ever larger.
The Chemical Brothers in Concert
Childhood classmates Tom Rowlands and Ed Simons began their journey into music in 1992, when the pair DJed as the Dust Brothers in clubs around Manchester, England. Their first self-released single, "Song to the Siren," was embraced by British techno guru Andrew Weatherall, who signed them to his Junior Boy's Own label and re-released "Siren." The pair worked their way through the UK music scene, touring the world and playing club nights frequented by Oasis' Noel Gallagher and the Charlatans' Tim Burgess. A legal squabble led to them changing their name to The Chemical Brothers in 1995, which was also the year they released their debut Exit Planet Dust. That album, which blended big beat and house with other strains of popular UK club music, was a critical smash (U2's The Edge even name-checked it as his favorite album of the year). 1997's Dig Your Own Hole was the band's worldwide breakthrough, with the pulsing "Block Rockin' Beats" and the buzzing "Setting Sun," which featured Gallagher's drawl, dominating MTV and radio. Surrender, which contained the psychedelia-tinged Bobby Gillespie collaboration "Out of Control" and the Gallagher-fronted fantasia "Let Forever Be," followed in 1999. In the years since, the Brothers have released albums beloved by dance-music aficionados like 2010's high-concept Further and 2019's idea-stuffed No Geography, redrawing the boundaries of modern electronic music and upping their artistic quotient with each passing year.

The beats, the lighting, the vibe, was all there. When attending previous Chemical Brothers events, they have been at Henry J. Kaiser in Oakland, and a couple of San Francisco shows. The vibe at the Fox was a bit chill, due to the amount of weed smoking potheads. Can't say I wouldn't indulge, but too many people were dazed. The security staff was friendly. There are plenty of bars, but they are always packed. THe aftershow bar/nightclub, looked like a great place to escape from the show early, and enjoy another few drinks. Since we were driving, parking was relatively easy, and heading back to 980/24 East was a breeze.
It was an enjoyable show.Visual was great. Sound was not. (the sound is getting better than the first show I saw there, still not great). Lots of seat crashers. The row my seat was in, was full of people who didn't have seats. The row my friend was in, had some one without a seat, standing in front of him the whole show. I love the Fox, but the ushers need to do their job. if you have a GA ticket, do not allow them in the seated area. Like they do if you have a seat, they will not let you in on the floor.
Great effects, but no real musicians. Tickets were way to expensive to not have a band. Looking forward to The Infected Mushrooms, they should have a band.
Incredible performance! The music and the visuals were unbelievable!
I saw them before and loved it, it was an all night thing, I mean come on! It's the chemical brothers! I was just shocked it ended at 11, I was like, what?!
This was my first time seeing a proper Chemical Brothers show and they didn't disappoint. They reinvented all of their tracks, often to stunning effect, like on "Star Guitar" and "Believe." The LED backdrop was also used to incredible effect, most notably with the haunting dotted face during "Escape Velocity," which was a perfect closer for the primary set.
Chemical Brothers Live is literally life changing. The Fox theatre i believe to be my favorite venue ever, and the sound in this place is literally perfect. The Chemical Brothers put on an insane show that not too many people got to witness, so for us select few im sure we all cherished every moment of that night. Because those 2 dudes brought me more joy in those 2 hours than ive had in a long long time. I hope i get to see their live set again, possibly coachella?
My wife and I took my niece and we all had a great time. The FOX is the best venue in the Bay area and the Chemical Brother did their thing.
It was an amazing show with great sound (though I had heard the opposite about the Fox) and amazing visuals. As was expected, the Chemical Brothers put on an phenomenal show. A great blend between familiar tracks and improvised beats. While it would've been cool to see a little more variation on the songs it's hard to complain when they're really tight to begin with.
One of the best shows !! alot of energy ! very good show !!
Audio and visuals at its best! Will defiantly go again no questions asked.
A pulsing throng of light and energy, the Chemical Brothers delivered an unforgettable show. Their new music was excellent and the transitions into their older tunes was perfect. The first time I saw them was great but this time around was amazing and memorable. The venue, the Fox Theater in Oakland, was a compliment to a sound and visual delight. Thanks
No words.. they are The Best ones ever! It was the concert of my life. All the energy, the music itself, their performance - spectacular, and the lights/images effect: perfect.
Never got a chance to see them until now and was thoroughly impressed with the quality of the show. The venue (The Fox, Oakland) was perfect and the crowd was chill and definitely into it. The visuals were spectacular as well.
Ninth time I've seen the Bro's. Amazing act as usual. Set time seemed a bit shorter than usual but I accredit that to the opening act who went way over time. Can't wait to see the Bro's for the tenth time!!
Fantastic show - great energy - super encore. Didn't want it to end...
I SO enjoyed the show last night. I was completely moved by the music and the visuals. Beautiful showcase of expression!
The show was amazing! I haven't danced like that since I lived in London.
This my third time seeing the Chemical Brothers, and they have never disappointed. They always make sure to incorporate a sweet DJ set with awesome on-screen visuals and heavy use of lasers/strobes. Their sets usually last between 1:30 - 2:00 hours. Whether you have a deep appreciation for their entire catalogue (like me) or have a casual interest in them...or just have some curiosity regarding big beat/electronic music in general, you (and your date/friends) will have an awesome time at their show - as long as you don't mind being drenched in sweat by the end!!! My only complaint this time was the amount of build-up time: Tom Rowlands loves that heavy distortion and lays on tons of it - fine most of the time, but once and a while I found myself looking at my watch, going 'okay Tom, time for the breakdown.'
