Charlotte Hornets History

The original Charlotte Hornets franchise joined the NBA in 1988 and, thanks to players such as Larry Johnson, Alonzo Mourning and Kendall Gill (and later, Glen Rice, Anthony Mason and Jamal Mashburn), enjoyed substantial success in the 1990s, starting with the 1992–93 season. Owner George Shinn moved the franchise to New Orleans in 2002.

But the NBA returned to Charlotte for the 2004–05 season with the expansion Bobcats, led by owner Robert L. Johnson, the first African-American majority owner of a team in one of the four major sports. In 2010, Michael Jordan took over majority ownership of the franchise, and in 2014, Jordan's team re-adopted the Charlotte Hornets name after the previous New Orleans Hornets became the Pelicans.

During the 2017–18 season, four-time All-Star Kemba Walker became Charlotte's all-time leading scorer, surpassing original Hornet Dell Curry.

  • It Was Okay

by Nette on 10/15/24Spectrum Center - CharlotteRating: 4 out of 5

They should scrimmage for a few minutes for entertainment purpose, and make winning fair bc a family got 6 balls.

  • inflexibility was disappointing

by rick on 10/9/24Spectrum Center - CharlotteRating: 3 out of 5

Hornets staff did their best, BUT no "problem solvers"emerged, which made the experience disappointing & very expensive. One of our family members sprained an ankle getting to upper level seats. I requested a seating level to accommodate & offered to pay for any cost difference. Since entire family wanted to sit together, I had to purchase 4 lower level tickets & was given NO CREDIT for the seats I had already purchased. Dealt with 4 different customer service agents. VERY disappointing. Was former season ticket holder, but may not go back again. DISSAPOINTING, although a good game.

It's been several years since some friends and myself went in together for season tickets! The experience was so great I figured I would purchase a date night for 23 games! My wife never went to the games when I had the previous tickets. My sons went and are now in college. So as empty nesters we will spend date night at Hornets games! Wholesome fun!

  • Still A Great Experience

Very good game. Smooth access to Spectrum Center. High seats but not a problem watching the game.

  • Missing seats

by Seats and the app on 4/10/24Spectrum Center - CharlotteRating: 4 out of 5

I was sitting in the box seats area L01-L03 and when I wanted to order some food to get delivered to my seat, my seat wasn’t on the list. I had to order for the seat two down from me. This is the second time this has happened. Please have all the seats listed in the app especially for those sections so that when people order food, it’s not going to seat or section down from me. Makes no sense not to have all the seats listed.

  • Could Be Better...

by Stacey on 4/4/24Spectrum Center - CharlotteRating: 3 out of 5

I absolutely love going to games and have always enjoyed the stadium. This past time we sat in section 112, which is the opposite side from our usual. My son, who has cerebral palsy, rides in a wheelchair but does not like to sit in it at game. So, the protocol is to take the wheelchair all the way to guest services on the other side of stadium,. We can't leave beside seat (which had an abundance of room or in alcove at section entrance. We have to protect the people in case they have to evacuate...What if he has to evacuate in an emergency and go to the bathroom? Also, when we left the employees act like it's a fire drill-leave the stadium was told so many times I wanted to scream while I was walking to Bermuda to get my son's wheelchair. Also, the no caps on the drinks suck-the floor was already sticky when we got there and then I also added to it by carrying four drinks with no tops. I spilled some all down my arm (do not like spending 400.00 on a Dr. pepper only to wear it). Also, the empty seats in wheelchair stayed empty he whole game. We asked in the 3rd quarter if I could sit with my mom and son (her fist NBA game) and we could not because someone may come in the 3rd (our seats were a row further down and we could have easily gone back to them if someone showed up). Anyone coming to the game in the 3rd quarter does not need to come. My mom loved seeing NBA players and we had fun. Only other thing was a fan was rude to an old man he she went and told somebody, and they told her to go to security?!?!?! She said the old man listened to the fan talk derogatory and ugly and he got up and left. He was an older African American wearing a Celtics jersey and the Charlotte Hornets white boy was cussing at him. She said it was so ugly and nobody would take up for the older man. I wish I knew his seat so that yall could gift him a ticket in a suite because he was treated unfairly. I know that is not the Hornet's fault-just feel bad for him. So, if you have trained people to keep the fans moving after game, make no exception to a wheelchair being up against a wall, and tops off of drinks-your employees exceeded expectations. It's just a lot to come to games-I will be paying payments on these tickets for a year and things could be a little more accommodating and they could give people a minute to breathe after game.

  • Cheap Tickets - Upper Level Seats - Great Game!

by Mike NC on 4/3/24Spectrum Center - CharlotteRating: 5 out of 5

Picked up very cheap tix for Hornets basketball for our family. We were in the upper upper level of the Spectrum in Charlotte ........ but we had a great time! Rooting for our Hornets and laughing at muffed plays. Definitely will look for discount tix again for b-ball, concerts and other events.

  • This may have been my last Hornet game.

by Stingless on 4/1/24Spectrum Center - CharlotteRating: 1 out of 5

We went to see Steph but he and The Warriors were not challenged in any way by this sad group of professional athletes. The organization doesn't care and the fans don't care anymore. No draft pic will save this team for the next few years.

  • Treated like a queen

by Sherrock on 4/1/24Spectrum Center - CharlotteRating: 5 out of 5

I'm handicapped, walk with a cane and was treated like a queen. They provided a wheelchair and actually pushed me to my row. I row. I was shocked and very pleased with how handicapped people were treateed. I have nothing negative to say about my experience. Thanks

  • Golden State Warriors and Hornets Game

by Dereka on 4/1/24Spectrum Center - CharlotteRating: 4 out of 5

I enjoyed the Golden State Warriors and Hornet game. I don't like when security was rushing my son to leave when he came to help me pick my things up.

  • Hornets are fun!

    by B-ball on 4/1/24Spectrum Center - CharlotteRating: 5 out of 5

I love going to Hornets games. Good vibe going on at Spectrum. The guys are playing hard. And occasionally get an exciting win. Lots of good entertainment with the dance squads & half-time etc. The staff are all helpful & friendly. It’s definitely a fun evening. And I’m very optimistic about next year.

  • Charlotte Hornets and NBA need to provide value for cost

by Sirepmils on 4/1/24Spectrum Center - CharlotteRating: 2 out of 5

$550 for three nose bleed seats are ridiculous ( bought directly from Hornets). Average person can’t afford to go attend too many nor want too when not winning.

  • Best experience

by Special on 3/18/24Spectrum Center - CharlotteRating: 5 out of 5

The game was amazing. The view from my seating was amazing. The food was over priced, I mean for 1 hotdog it was 5$. Other then that I had a great time.

  • Not Good, Not Bad

by Todd Youngblood on 3/18/24Spectrum Center - CharlotteRating: 3 out of 5

First experience at this arena, brought my 75 year old father to see the game for is Bday. Pros - Very helpful Staff, made sure he used elevator, kind and courteous. - Clean Arena, Easy to Navigate - Lots of fan entertainment with Dancers, Hugo Dunks, Cheerleaders (Dad liked the girls!) - Jumbo Tron helped both of us see things better. -Cons - The leg room was way too tight, - The vertical incline of section 208 Row "O"made me wish we could have gotten lower seats. - There should be a designated rideshare pickup area. That was a challenge for him. - Hornets lost to the Suns but they played a good game and at least we had a good outing.

  • Awesome game

by Cyndi on 3/13/24Spectrum Center - CharlotteRating: 5 out of 5

It was a lot of fun being at the 'BeeHive"to watch and celebrate the Hornet's win against New Jersey. The arena is of great size such that even when you are in the higher seats you are able to enjoy the game experience. The atmosphere was enjoyable for my family of 4. I highly recommend attending at least one game.
